Great location to venture out to different adventures in South Dakota!
Great communication with the host!
Clean, with washer & dryer, & comfortable beds!
My daughter and ai were in Rapid City for a week while my daughter was doing a program at South Dakota Mines. The house was the perfect central location and had everything we needed. We would definitely stay here again in the future.
We enjoyed our stay in this air conditioned home while as it hit between 97-100 degrees weather leaving us housebound. It was relaxing. Only thing I would have love to have had was a fenced in yard for the pets.
This was a few blocks from where I grew up so it was familiar territory - right on my old paper route. The neighborhood has aged, but people are coming in and restoring and renovating the homes so the neighborhood feels like it is on the upswing. Even though it is less than a block from Mt. Rushmore Road, the noise from the traffic was hardly noticeable.
The house is "1940s" with all its accompanying aging - And Charm. The light in the spaces is beautiful - light from two directions in every room. The weather was perfect for having the window open. Being new windows, they were easy to open and close. The bedrooms are cozy, the living and dining spaces are nice and open. The kitchen is just the right size to prepare any meal and is nicely fitted out. The laundry is a great convenience and the newer machines easy to use.
Owner did not give us details on access so we had to contact her before we left home. We got there and code did not work.we kept trying to reach her and vrbo, finally got thru to vrbo but they couldn’t reach her either. We sat in driveway while a wicked hailstorm was going on. When it quit, we headed for a hotel because of tornado watch. As we were pulling in to hotel she sent us the correct code. No apology, just the code. Also, every day my husband had to tighten the screws on the lock and door plate or it wouldn’t lock properly. Yard was a mess, bedrooms were tiny. House had charm but needed a handyman. Liked that it’s location was close to everything we wanted to do. It was also nice we had a washer/dryer to use. But bring your own hairdryer.

Thank you for your review and advice on how we can improve our property. We apologize for the lack of a hairdryer provided as there had previously had one in there. I'm glad that we were able to get one over there before your checkout. We fully intend to make all appropriate improvements and hope you will consider our home for any future stays.
The property was not in good shape. Primarily, the AC did not work and was not repaired or fixed. As temperatures hit over 100 degrees F, it was a miserable stay. Communication was delayed and not clear. Someone showed up early one morning to look at the AC and basically told us it hadn't been working for weeks. Nothing was done. The listing was completely misleading and I do not recommend staying here. The house was run down and seemed to not be well-cared for in some time. Pictures do not reflect the current reality. These owners should not be renting this property.
The front yard ‘flowers’ need to be weeded. Could use a couple full length mirrors so you could look at yourself before going out. Freezer did not keep ice cream frozen hard. Other than that everything was pretty good.
For me and my kids it was perfect. The cost was right in my price range and I think you got what you payed for. The outside needed a little TLC. For the most part the neighborhood was good. I would stay here again.
It is an older home that could use some updating and maintenance but it was very clean and comfortable. We had two adults and 4 kids. The futon really wasn’t meant for two people, even kids. So, perfect for a family of 5. We took an air mattress just in case, so it was no big deal. Overall, a very comfortable and fun trip.
East to find. Located near all needed stores. Easy access to the various National Parks surrounding Rapid City. Much better coming to a house than a hotel. Able to eat breakfast on the porch.
The property was centrally located. The house was extremely clean and met all our needs. Thank you for having us.

Liked: Communication, location
charming but disappointing
The house is in a wonderful location and was initially charming, but after settling in we discovered the property needed improving. Overall, the property seems neglected and partially furnished with useless furniture. There are broken doorknobs, rickety furniture (some without drawer pulls), blinds that don't open or close, no mirrors in bedrooms (only one small mirror in the bathroom), outside furniture old and dirty, left-over food in refrigerator and freezer, neglected yard (weeds in grass, beds, and driveway), broken and rusted yard light in front yard, no house instructions (two thermostats: one didn't seem to work at all), curtain rods and shower rod fell at slightest touch, rusted shower rod, stains in carpeting. The bad definitely far outweighs the good and this house gives VRBO a bad reputation.
We enjoyed our stay. The house is clean, close to many attractions and the owner is responsive to questions we had about our stay. We also liked how close the downtown was to the house for us to go to the music festivals and shops. The one issue we had was no cabinet space to put food in and we had to store things on the counters. Overall, the house was clean, cute and in a quiet neighborhood. Would stay again in the future.

This home was everything that I had hoped it would be, clean, welcoming and convenient location. Any questions or concerns I had were taken care of quickly. There was even a deer in the back yard that sat with me while I drank my morning coffee! I would recommend this property to anyone!

Very nice stay. Three deer hung out in the backyard one morning for about 2 hours. This is an older property, but I knew that going in, It was well worth the price we paid to stay here.

This is such a beautiful original featured home! Just know all the quirks that an old home has, comes with this. The bathroom door can be tricky to open, my 8 year old had some trouble, but it wasn't anything too bad. The floors are also a tiny bit uneven... but my husband is a carpenter and notices that stuff, you may not during your stay!
The living room furniture isn't set up very compatible for hanging out, but all the furniture is very comfortable and with a little rearranging (and putting back in place) we made it a cozy place to hang out at night together. As well, the tv in the main bedroom seems to just be decorative. There was no way that we could see to hook it up to any streaming or television service, so you may want to bring your own Roku or something for that room. However the beds are very comfortable!! The pillows are perfect (almost wanted to steal one...) The kitchen is great with lots of plates, glass wear, silver wear and all other cooking items you may need.
Location is great! It's very close to downtown and some great local places to eat and get coffee. The neighborhood is quiet and we even got a special surprise of a beautiful mule deer resting in the back yard on our last morning there!
Shannon was wonderful! It was my son's birthday and she so graciously picked up a cake and balloons from the grocery store and placed it in the house for when we got there. My son was so surprised and happy that his birthday was being recognized after driving 10 hours that day. She also is a successful realtor because we saw her name all over the town on buildings for lease! My kids made a game out of finding Shannon's name downtown.
We had so much fun here, and would definitely return as well as recommend Shannon and this property to anyone else traveling here.

Disliked: Cleanliness, check-in
Disappointing stay
From the lack of check info, to the power being turned off because the owner didn’t switch the account over, to the poor condition of the property, it seemed one thing after another. There is a lot of work that should be done on this property before continuing on VRBO. The toilet is running, the coffee maker doesn’t work, the back door sticks, the carpet is gross and pet stained, bathroom needs caulking and cleaning (especially shower faucet handles), most blinds don’t have wands to open and close, front bedroom bed is terrible, there is no place to put trash outside and there was no guide to the unit. There should be info on the space; how to work the lock, where the a/c control is, what to do
It’s like the last people moved out, left a bunch of stuff and the new owners bought it and listed it without doing anything.
