This privately owned brick house has been a family treasure. The home features original oak trim, cabinetry and flooring. The floor tile in the foyer and upstairs bathroom are all inlaid and original. Furnishings and decor make the home cozy and inviting. This house is able to accomodate family or friend gatherings and reunions, yet offer quiet time and relaxation.
There is a large front open porch for visiting with family and friends or sipping your favorite beverage. The back yard is spacious and guests can enjoy a meal on the patio or a sit next to the fire pit.
Located in the rolling hills of southern Wisconsin, the village of New Glarus hosts several festivals throughout the year. Visitors can enjoy the ethnic foods and local entertainment. The guest house is located within walking distance of the downtown area which offers shopping and many fine Swiss/German restaurants. The Sugar River Bike Trail is also located near the guest house as is the popular New Glarus Brewery.
Just a lovely guest house. Wonderfully decorated and very peaceful! We'll be finding an excuse to visit again. Perfect!
We could not have asked for a better place to stay while in New Glarus. The location is perfect for walking into town or taking a quick trip to the brewery. The owner's have provided anything you could possibly need during your stay and are willing to go above and beyond. I would highly recommend staying here to anyone looking to spend any time in New Glarus. I cannot wait to return and will not hesitate to book this house again.
Property was beautifully maintained. Decor was beautiful and had every comfort of home.
The Duerse Guest House was wonderful! The home was immaculate and very well appointed. Everything you could possibly need was there for you. My girlfriends from Milwaukee and Chicago were equally impressed. I have done a lot of VRBO 'a and I would say this one was my very favorite. I felt very honored to stay in such a beautiful home. Thank you Jane!
The house is gorgeous, clean, and was perfect for nine adults. A five-minute walk will take you right to the shops, restaurants, and bars in New Glarus. We had a really good time at the bars Saturday night, and then exploring the thrift and craft stores on Sunday.
I wish I could post pictures of the backyard: it was so adorable: a table, lots of seating, and fire pit. There is a small berm of decorative plants that gives privacy from the road. We stayed out there for hours!
Jane was very friendly, and invited us to stay late the next day because the house would not be rented. In fact, she worked with me very well to plan this about one month in advance. Also, she let my group stay for just one night, which is pretty uncommon.
Regarding a previous negative review about waiting for Jane to let renters into the house:
Jane now has a passcode-protected lock on the front and back doors. Through email, she gave me the passcode so that my group and I could get into the rental as we pleased. It was very simple! Later, she stopped by to pick up the remainder of the payment.
All of my friends emphatically agreed that we would love to stay again at the Duerst House! It is truly a treasure.
The house was beautiful and worked great for us. Easy walking distance to downtown. The accommodations were fabulous. Would recommend this property to anybody. We are planning a trip back and will be staying again. Thanks
