Salida getaway

Wonderful property and great location! We got to conveniently enjoy all that downtown had to offer as well as quite a bit of fishing the Ark. This place is perfect!

Very beautiful place

We had a really nice stay here. There were nine friends (men) from all over the country and we loved the interior of the house, the yard, fire pit, riverside area. I highly recommend the place

Peaceful retreat on the Arkansas

My parents, siblings, and our significant others stayed here for three nights. This rental has everything you could possibly want. The views, location, and history are unmatched. The hosts definitely take great care of the property.

History at its finedt

The Poor Farm is rich in history with the luxury of updated furnishings and amenities. The views from the house were unbelievably beautiful and the host was responsive and helpful. We’re thankful to have stayed here!

Unique and Beautiful Stay in Salida

We had a fabulous time at the Poor Farm; the property itself is beautifully maintained with so many incredible amenities that made our stay even better. The house is large and beautifully decorated with access to a full The host was fantastic and communicated in a timely manner to make our stay perfect! Highly recommend the Poor Farm.

Beautiful Riverside Stay

So nice to be out in the countryside, overlooking the Arkansas River and surrounded by the mountains, and still enjoy the hustle and bustle of downtown Salida, so close by! This house is beautifully kept and exquisitely decorated with antiques, and each room has it's own bathroom. The host is so friendly and helpful. Our stay here could not have been more perfect! Most memorable!

Perfect weekend retreat

Beautiful property with all the lovely amenities and so many thoughtful touches. Oozes with character and a bit of mystery. Very comfortable for relaxing, cooking, cold plunging in the river! Would definitely recommend for extended family vacay or friend groups as all bedrooms have an en suite. Host was attentive and accommodating.

A great escape

Beautifully decorated & maintained historical home in an epic Colorado setting. Our group had the best long weekend spending time together at the Poor Farm, walking around by the river, dining & shopping in Salida, and visiting the nearby hot springs and ghost town. The fire pit and game room are just the icing on the cake!

Great time

Everything was perfect. Great house for our group of 8. House had very comfortable beds and bathrooms. The sitting areas downstairs are great for playing board games or just sitting and visiting. Well stocked kitchen with a large table for dining. Host was very responsive with our needs. We will be back.

Wonderful place in a superb location

The Poor House is a spectacular place to stay, both because the house itself is so beautiful and because the setting is fantastic. A short walk down a path takes you to the Arkansas River. Salida is a short drive, bike ride, or walk away. And the Collegiate Peaks, the river, and the San Luis Valley are all right there. Shae was highly responsive and accommodating as a hostess. We hope to return more than once in the future.

Beautiful home

This home was perfect for our family with each bedroom having a private bath on 2nd floor & the living area & kitchen is perfectly located on 1st floor. The kitchen was stocked with dishes so we could cook meals. We loved the "sonic ice machine" & use of a dishwasher. When we had a question the owners were fast to respond. Perfect location and property.

Beautiful view of the area from the porch of the property.

Your website is not easy to navigate. When you complete the reservation and hit the phone return arrow your site takes you back and says that property is not available for the date requested and to select another date.

Bachelor Weekend

We had a fantastic weekend. 6 friends and I stayed at the property for three nights, cooked great food, and took advantage of all the mountain activities. The house was incredible and amazing that each bedroom had its own spacious bathroom! It is about 3 miles outside of downtown Salida but that's kind of what we were looking for. Communication with Shae was so easy and she responded to any questions very quickly. Highly recommend this property.

Amazing location for a group of friends

This is the perfect spot for a quiet getaway with a group of friends. 5 bedrooms with their own en suite full bathrooms is AMAZING. The kitchen is big, well-equipped, and open to the bright, large dining room. Loads of space to spread out across two living rooms. All beautifully decorated and chic. The location on the river is nice but it isn't walkable to anything, if that's important to you. We ended up scrapping our plans to go anywhere because we had so much food and such a lovely place to hang out! Hosts definitely have this down to a science. Nice toiletries, coffee, and a pellet ice maker (!!!) are just some of the perks of staying here. They're also very communicative and kind. I will definitely recommend this property and come back for future weekends away!

Utter Perfection

A group of dear, long term friends and I gathered for 3 nights at the Poor Farm and it was better than we could have ever imagined. The space suited us perfectly... we cooked family meals and cleaned dishes together in the beautiful kitchen, played games and read books (and tried to create life stories for the historical portraits) in the sitting room(s), had coffee and silly tarot readings in the dining room, belly laughs by the fire, full moon and lightning viewings from the front porch, cold plunges in the river, warm ups in the sauna, and the ability to get away from each other and have our own space to sleep in the gorgeous upstairs bedrooms :) It was such a special time for those of us who have moved away or don't get to see each other as often as we used to in the ideal setting. So grateful to Shae and Brady for the work they put into this space for others to enjoy!! I hope we can return every year... or just live there permanently :)

Outstanding!

We came for a 50th bday friends trip. The guys wanted to fish and the girls wanted to hang out. This place fit the bill. Unfortunately the river was abnormally high and running too fast to fish but there was a small "lake" down the street that the guys really enjoyed. Salida is an awesome mountain town, great shops, good walking town, and very friendly people. It was wonderful having a bathroom in every bedroom, although we found that the downstair shower was our favorite. Be advised that only the upstairs bedrooms have AC (window units), it can get warm downstairs even with the windows open but as the sun starts going down the temp cools off inside as well. The house had everything we needed for cooking meals. Shae, the host, was exceptional and communicated often and easily. We loved the Poor Farm, inside and out!
