About Ken & Lindsay Young

My wife Lindsay and I retired in 2014 after 25 years publishing The Spirit of Geneva Lakes Magazine in the Lake Geneva, WI area. We have 2 wonderful adult children and 2 beautiful granddaughters.

We fell in love with this place the first time we viewed it. We spent the summer of 2004 searching for a waterfront home and viewed 30-40 other properties, but we just couldn't get this home out of our hearts. We purchased the home in Nov. of 2004 and it has added immeasurable joy and wonderful memories for our entire family.

Why Ken & Lindsay Young chose Arkdale

A view like no other in a wooded setting like no other! Sunsets are Key-West like and the lot to our west (our most prominent view trajectory) is vacant, affording almost complete privacy on this secluded culdesac development of just 5 waterfront homes. The home is also as beautiful as the setting and the lake views from the great room are fabulous! The wrap-around decking and gazebo add to the overall ambiance and tremendous lake views.

What makes this house unique

Lake Petenwell is Wisconsin's 2nd largest lake with 23,400 acres. It gives a Canadian Wilderness appeal without the heavy boat and jet ski noise often heard on smaller lakes. The peace and tranquility is second-to-none!

Atv trails are nearby and Lake Petenwell is renowned for its great sport fishing, wildlife viewing, hiking, biking and more!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Ken & Lindsay, Thank you so much for letting us stay at your rental home. It was wonderful, in every way. Everything that we were hoping it'd be, beautiful home, view & peaceful & relaxing. Candie was very surprised. One of our favorite places in the 15 years that I've been doing this surprise for Candie. Loved the Bose speakers, the gas starter in the fireplace. Thanks for having the fireplace stocked Friday for us and for the wood by the fire pit. We found the guy with the $3 wheelbarrow of firewood, too! Thanks for the awesome 4 nights. We have never stayed in the same place twice in 15 years, but we both commented that if we decide to do that, this would be the first place that we'd make a repeat visit! Thanks again, Jeff

We stayed here 7/27/17 – 7/30/17 and were VERY pleased. Our family consisted of 5 adults and 1 child, we had plenty of space and the furnishings were exceptional and comfortable and the house was very clean and beautiful. We especially loved the large deck and enjoyed the awesome scenery and our evenings were always spent on the deck enjoying the sunset and the stars. We brought our boat and took advantage of the boat dock, the lake is very sandy which was a major plus.

We used the boat ramp at Lure Bar & Grill which was an easy in and out and cheap at $3, they also have a nice beach and we enjoyed the restaurant as well. Ken & Lindsay provided all info needed for our stay which was awesome and we hope to come back soon.

Owner's Response: So glad you had a good time at our home. We also find the deck to be a major favorite feature of our home, as do most guests. It is always gratifying to hear our guests comment on having quality time with family and friends. We hope to see you again soon.

Relaxing Family Vacation

  • 5 of 5

We spent a wonderful week at this home with our children, their spouses and brand new grandson. We found the accommodations to be comfortable and 'just like home'. We cooked meals - the kitchen is equipped with what you need and we grilled, too. The bedrooms had plenty of space and we enjoyed having the extra space with a loft overlooking the living room. We spent time in the gazebo, playing games and doing a puzzle, plenty of seating for a group of 6 - and an lovely view of the lake. One of the things we enjoyed most was the walking path which goes right through the yard and along the lake. It's very quiet along the path, and several times we saw a bald eagle (also near the house) - must be a nest nearby. Wildlife is plentiful - we saw a doe with 3 fawn many times over the week we were there. And in general traveling in the area, we saw many deer, turkeys, tree frogs, snakes, birds of all kinds - even a woodchuck. Very fun! We rented a pontoon boat at the nearby marina where they also had live music on a rainy Sunday afternoon. We also rented a boat on Castle Rock Lake (also nearby) and enjoyed that, too. We visited a Farmer's Market in nearby Rome and drove to Lake Wazeecha to walk the shore path (about 4 miles, paved) and enjoyed a picnic lunch there at the lake and some retro mini-golf ($15 for 5 of us to play) right across from the park. We also very much enjoyed a drive and some hiking in the Sandhill Wildlife area. It's a beautiful natural area, well thought out and informative with explanations of what you are seeing along the drive. It's about 14 miles and the drive is a gravel road. This spot in the middle of the state is wonderful for relaxing and enjoying some down time, but there are certainly watersports nearby and active things to do for those who desire that, too. Our daughter-in-law enjoyed her morning runs, and my husband enjoyed his biking (on and off the road). I enjoyed the beautiful view while I read a book. Also, there was a recommendation for The Dirty Oar - a Supper Club nearby. We enjoyed a fantastic meal there and some great conversation with the Chef and his wife. We were very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food and drinks and the sunset there was amazing. In addition, Ken was very quick to respond with questions we had during our stay - very easy to work with - made us feel like their home was our home for the time we were there. We'd definitely return to this spot for a relaxing vacation.

Owner's Response: We are always so pleased to hear our guests comments and fond memories of our lake home. It is especially heartwarming to know that families are able to get together and experience our home and the wonderful central Wisconsin area, while also reconnecting with one another. We have owned the home 13 years now and continue to take pleasure in this quiet, peaceful setting with many fond memories of our family and friends. It is especially nice to have our now 9 year old granddaughter and her mom coming up each year to enjoy time with us at home and out on our pontoon boat exploring the many miles of shoreline on Lake Petenwell.

We were in the area for 3 nights and were extremely impressed with this property. From our first contact with Ken & Lindsay, to saying good bye when we left, everything was perfect. The views are spectacular & sitting in the gazebo late at night and early in the morning allowed us to enjoy the surroundings. We had deer walk by between the house and the lake and saw several small fawns in and around the driveway. The furnishings were top notch, especially the comfortable beds. Sitting in the great room looking out over the lake was priceless. The deck is large and inviting but we kept gravitating to the gazebo. We contacted Ken & Lindsay multiple times prior to arrival to ask questions and they were more than accommodating in getting us the information we needed (grocery stores, good restaurants, etc). The home is close to Petenwell County Park which is a hidden gem by itself. While there, we rented a boat slip for our pontoon and rented the picnic shelter. They also have a great boat ramp and swimming beach. They charge a minimal day fee but with the boat slip, they waive that.

If you are looking for a place to get away, relax and enjoy nature, this is the place to be. If we return to the Lake Petenwell area in the future, we know where we will be staying.

We had a wonderful time staying at this beautiful lake home. The owners Ken and Lindsay Young provided us with a very enjoyable stay. The house has breath taking views and is beautifully decorated. There is plenty of room so everyone has their own area to relax. The house is so inviting and comfortable that when it is time to leave you will not want to. We hope to make it back next year.
