We now have high speed INTERNET. Lots of wildlife, too!

Do you want a place to make memories? Roasting hot dogs, making smores, and singing songs around the campfire in the evening? Enjoying the sky full of stars at night? Eating breakfast outside on the deck while you watch the birds and wildlife? Catch some sun on the north or south deck. Or make snow angels! This is a magical place!

This from a renter after their 2009 stay. 'We look forward to spending time again in your lovely cabin. We will plan on the first week in August (2010). I hope I can retire in Estes Park because every year I love it more and more. I have never had a vacation area feel so right as Estes does.' (They rent every year for a week.)

This is not a condo/townhome/apartment--no noise above, below or beside your vacation home. This is a full four bedroom, 1400 square foot home with three baths. No shared space, and lots of amenities you won't find in most rentals--Academy Award movies, every small appliance you could want, sunflower shower heads, luxury towels, hiking trail information, and bird, tree, flower and animal books.

This vacation home is available year round. FALL is a beautiful time when the ELK BUGLE during the rut, and the aspen turn GOLDEN.

When the sweet smell of the pines drifts through your window, the birds flock to the feeder, your campfire softens those marshmallows just right, the coyote runs up the road, or the deer and elk greet you in the front yard, you won't want to go home!

Our private home is on ONE ACRE with tall pines, rock outcroppings, and mountain views. Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park are a wonderland year round.

In summer, you may hike or ride horses in Rocky Mountain National Park (3 miles away)where wildflowers bloom in abundance, or you can enjoy the hummingbirds (just outside the north picture window), wrens (just outside the kitchen window), bluebirds and other birds that visit our property. At any time,you may hear owls or hear/see coyotes.

Estes Park offers shopping, concerts, live theatre, rodeo, horse shows, tours, and a wide range of restaurants. The Scottish Highlands Festival is held in early September. Horse shows, concerts, and special events--often free of charge--are held regularly May through October in Estes Park.

The master bedroom has a king size bed, TV/VCR/DVD, prints from the National Western Art Show, and adjoining private bath. Our home has queen-size beds in two bedrooms. One bedroom has quilt art, the other has two prints by Bev Doolittle. The Private Guest room has a twin bed and a queen size hide-a-bed, and a bath with shower. (PRIVATE GUEST ROOM NOT AVAILABLE DECEMBER THROUGH APRIL.)

The living room has a fireplace, TV/VCR/DVD, southwestern prints by Pena, two recliners and two rocking chairs. The kitchen has everything you would want--see listing below. We have a new (July 2012) Frigidaire range with ceramic top and large oven, and an over-the-range microwave. There is a full laundry with Maytag washer and dryer, iron and ironing board.

The decks on the north and south sides of the cabin offer full sun (south) or shade (north). There are chairs, lounges, outdoor tables on both decks. The south deck has a gas grill. The north deck has a bird feeder year round and hummingbird feeder in summer.

A fire circle and large picnic table in the north yard are perfect for wiener roasts and smores where the views are outstanding.

Need a backpack or an insulated bag for a picnic? Need bibs for the kids? They're here. Need hiking poles, canteens, compasses, bear bells? They're here!

Even electric blankets--so no cold sheets on your first night--just turn them on and warm up the beds before you jump in--nice in the wintertime!

Our location is central to Rocky Mountain National Park (3 miles), Estes Park South Park Village (1 mile), Big Thompson River (1 mile), Giant Track Mountain (1/2 mile) and Mary's Lake (2 miles). Estes Park is a couple miles away--far enough from the hustle and bustle, but close enough to shop, dine, and be entertained conveniently. There is a free trolley that runs in summer, and is 1/2 mile away.

We have lots of good references from satisfied renters--the quotes in the guestbook (see link at bottom of this information) are taken from notes left by renters. Many renters have rented for years, and they book next year's time when they leave this year.

About Don & Dorothy Martin

Don and Dorothy Martin are retired Colorado State University faculty, and have lived in Fort Collins for 35 years. We are native Iowans, raised in Monticello, and educated at Iowa State University. We have three adult children, all living in Fort Collins, ten grandchildren, and eight great granddaughters and one great grandson. We love Colorado and the mountains. Don was a professor in Construction Management and had a remodeling business with our son. Dorothy was a professor in human development and the family, was a marriage and family therapist, and worked 27 years for Cooperative Extension at Colorado State. Besides our family, we enjoy bridge, gardening, gospel music, travel, and good food.

This is to be a retirement home for us, so it is furnished and kept in great condition. Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park provide plenty of things to do. Good hospital and medical care is available in Estes Park. Lots of restaurants, churches, recreation activites, and a nice senior citizen center are all available to renters. You will find a small village atmosphere in Estes Park. There are many ethnic festivals, rodeos, concerts, melodramas and other special events. When it's hot at lower elevations, it is nice in Estes Park.

What makes this house unique

This mountain property is located on one acre--plenty of private parking. Not a condo or apartment, but space for the kids to play and explore. Quiet with no noisy neighbors, and wildlife coming through.

Many amenities that will keep you occupied on that occasional rainy day--videos/cds/dvds, games, cards and puzzles--much more than a hotel room would have.

And many amenities to prepare you for the outdoors--hiking poles, bear bells, back packs, small insulated bags, etc.

Three notebooks with information on hiking trails, night skies, preventing altitude sickness, and wildlife. Library of books on Rocky Mountain National Park, flowers, trees, stars and constellations, birds, elk and other wildlife of the Estes Valley, hiking trails and waterfalls, campfire songs, and others. Many children's books, too.

Easy financial arrangements using postdated checks for deposit and balance. Cleaning always included in the weekly rate. Renters like our system. AVAILABLE YEAR ROUND!

This is a place to create memories--telling stories and singing songs around the campfire in the evening, eating lunch on the deck, watching the birds, elk and deer.

peaceful, well equipped home in an ideal location

We couldn't have been happier with our stay. The Martin's obviously beloved home is a perfect place for a restful (and energetic) stay in the Rocky Mountains. It's less than 10 minutes to the Park entrance, and you don't have to go through town on the way, which was ideal for getting to the Park early (a must in summer months). We spent every day hiking in the Park, and every evening enjoying home cooked meals (prepared in the Martin's well equipped kitchen), sometimes on the back deck or back "yard," with a view through the trees to the mountains. One time, we had a dinner guest - I looked up and saw a female elk quietly making her way across the "yard," foraging as she went. Two other days, coming back from the well-stocked supermarket (which is about a 5 minute drive from the house), we had to stop for a herd of female elk (including a nursing calf) while they crossed the road. The house is on the outskirts of the town, very near to the action if you want (we didn't), but on a gravel/dirt road with not too many neighbors. I say back "yard" because it's not a yard per se but rather a part of the forest/meadow landscape ... spread out pine trees, some wild grasses and flowers. The house itself is super comfortable - a well lived in and cherished home. Sitting on the sofa or recliner in the living room, there's a view out the large window to the back "yard" and mountains beyond. And the artwork is wonderful!! A mixture of native American and Western - authentic, inspiring, lovely. Missy Martin is managing things now for her in-laws, the owners, and she made communication and arrangements easy. This is not a fancy house, but if you're looking for a restful, inspiring place to call home on your visit to the Rockies, you have found your spot.

we want to go back...now

The location was fantastic. It was so so quiet and peaceful, especially at night. The other reviewers are right on with saying that it's close enough to the main strip of town but also not being caught up in the occasional traffic of it; and easy close access to RMNP. The master bed room was fantastic, much more space than my wife and I needed. The other two bedrooms were small, but more than enough for our kids (4 yrs & 7 mo's). There was stuff to do when the weather wasn't the best. We did have visitors, a bear who decided he wanted a midnight snack from the hummingbird feeder. But he got his snack and left everything else alone. The Martin's are great to work with and very generous with their home. In terms of contacting, there are some times it takes a while to hear back, but they're always helpful and gracious when they do. The only real negative I have to say is with there being no central A/C, it got very very warm a couple of the days we were there - it was 83 inside the cabin on the day we arrived. We tried opening windows and running the fans, but there was only so much you could do and it still was uncomfortable sometimes. However, I would not let that keep me from recommending or staying again. In our previous visits to Estes and searches, I don't know that you're going to find an overall better value for your money than this home. Just remember to bring in the hummingbird feeder when you go to bed.

Owner's Response: Sorry about the heat. We find that opening all the windows at night and closing them during the day does quite well for temperature control when we have heat, which isn't very often.

Wonderful property and owner..good deal too!

It was a great place, big enough for our family of 6. The owners did a good job in making the place welcoming and clean! They had the carpet cleaned before we arrived! Now that is personal service you can't find in any hotel ! The master bedroom is nice and big.

The other 2 rooms are very small though...my daughters had to put their stuff near the door since it is easier to get their stuff then to put in the closet where is only a few inches away from the bed. The bunk room was great, too bad it had no heater so it was really cold! Thank goodness we don't need the extra room.

They have wifi and HBO.

Location wise, a great location. Very close to the RMNP entrance.

Owner's Response: We do have heat in the bunk room--both in the room and in the bath. If they are not on it is easy to turn them on. The two queen bedrooms are small. We chose to put in queen beds which take more room. Most people do not spend much time in their bedrooms while on vacation. I am sorry if this is an inconvenience.

Family time

The location was great, the kitchen was well stocked, don't plan on a lot of cabinet storage in the kitchen as they are all full, we made it work, it just took some doing. The view was amazing. The 2 bedrooms with queen beds are very small, only a bed and dresser in closet, no walking room. The bath for those rooms is very tight. The ad stated 4 bedrooms but no mention that the bunk room not available December thru April. If all of our family would have shown up, we would not have had enough rooms. That needs to be clearly stated in the ad, not in the letter from the owner after we rented. Otherwise a good stay. The owner were good to work with and explained the process well except for that mentioned above. We did stay in March, so we did not spend much time outside.

Owner's Response: The kitchen is extremely well stocked, and there are two large, empty lazy susans that accomodate most people. The queen bedrooms are small--we chose to put queen beds in these rooms for comfort--most prefer good sized beds to floor space as they don't spend much time in their bedrooms on vacation. I am sorry for this inconvenience.

Family vacation

We had a wonderful stay in this home. The kitchen was stocked with everything you would need. We have 6 kids and it was perfect for our family. We spent a lot of time hiking and the location is very close to the entrance of RMNP. The yard was perfect. We had s'mores every night. We ate in all meals except for one. We went to Ed's Cantina for dinner one night. We have gluten sensitivities in our family and they had a wonderful GF menu. We would definitely stay in this home again!

Cleaning Fee $150 + Tax

Weekly only from June 4, 2017, June, July, and Aug until October 1, 2017. Occupancy is Sunday at 3pm until the following Sunday at 10am, $1000, plus $100 cleaning and 5.70% tax. We display our tax licenses. All checks are secured in lock box until the dates on them. We email renters when checks arrive.
Other times we rent for $135 per night ($150 for holidays), for 3 bedrooms and 2 baths, plus a $100 cleaning fee; 3 night minimum always.

We request three checks at booking to reserve your time.
Check #1 is the deposit check for $300, dated two weeks before your arrival. At that time we mail to you a map, key and information letter.
Check #2 is the balance check for $700, plus $150 cleaning fee and 5.7% tax. This check is dated the day you arrive.
Check #3 is the $300 damage deposit, cashed only if damage occurs.

Owner's Cancellation Policy

  • 50% refund if canceled at least 7 days before arrival date.
  • 100% refund if canceled at least 14 days before arrival date.
