Why Jack Miller chose Blue Ridge Mountains

We chose our mountain to build our cabin on because it has the amazing views, no highway noise, Verizon works there, it doesn't get too much snow and it has easy access to I-40 to Asheville. We and our good neighbors the Morgan's bought the top of our mountain ridge together. We have over 27 acres between us with only our two homes.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Dear Candace and Jack,

I just wanted to say thank you for the opportunity to stay in your lovely cabin. Our time there was absolutely wonderful. Everything could not have been more perfect. Because I was cooking Thanksgiving dinner, I brought everything but the kitchen sink with me, but found to my delight that many of the things I brought were already supplied in your kitchen. Our first morning there my husband walked out the front door and I heard him exclaim, "Oh my goodness!" He was looking at the sunrise. OH! We woke up the whole household to see! We had never seen anything like it. Even thinking about it, I am still awestruck. We were so thankful for the cut wood and had a fire going most of the time we were there. All of the special touches around the house-the stained glass, the adding machine, the sewing machine cabinet with "stuff" in the drawers, the books, really, just everything-were so warm and welcoming. Just thank you, thank you, thank you for the vision to build (or buy or whatever) this property and then the kindness to share it with others. We will forever be blessed with beautiful memories of our time there. And, PS, I have told my friends about it and encouraged them to go there too.

With Great Gratitude,
Nov 2012

Girls Weekend

  • 5 of 5

My girlfriends and I had a wonderful time last weekend at Mountain Laurel Lookout. The photos don't do the cabin and it's amazing views justice! There was plenty of room for 7 girls to get ready and sleep comfortably. We spent our evenings sipping wine while watching the sunset and our mornings drinking coffee on the porch just taking in the view. The owners were responsive and I would highly recommend this cabin to anyone looking to get away to the mountains for a long weekend. We will definitely be back!

Awesome cabin with breathtaking view.

  • 5 of 5

My family of four stayed at the cabin for one week. The view was spectacular and a photo cannot capture how amazing the view was. The cabin was thoughtfully appointed. We enjoyed the game room with ping pong, football, air hockey and basketball hoops. The owners were extremely easy to deal with. Our favorite was activity was sitting on the balcony enjoying the mountain view. We will return for sure.

You can almost touch the sky from up here!!

  • 5 of 5

When we first walked out on the rear deck of this magnificent home we were speechless! None of the pictures can prepare you for this incredible view! The first week of our stay, the weather was perfect. Christal clear blue skies and warm sunshine. We were able to take in The Biltmore, Downtown Asheville, Chimney Rock State Park and Lake Lure as well as hiking and driving around the Gateway Mountain Community. Be sure to see Standing Rock Falls and Lake George as they are beautiful and right in Gateway Mountain. The remnants of Hurricane Patricia came blowing through at the beginning of our second week but snuggling up around a roaring fire in this home's beautiful stone fireplace made everything just fine. All during our stay, the colors of the trees were steadily getting brighter and by the last four days they were absolutely magnificent! I can assure you that all the accolades given by previous reviewers are absolutely true. We liked it so much that the Millers may find some new neighbors on Gateway Mountain in the not too distant future!

MOST AMAZING VIEW AND SO PEACEFUL!!!

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed in many cabins over the years in Asheville and Black Mountain and we always pay extra for a spectacular view. The view from this cabin is the most amazing view we have ever seen from any cabin we have rented. The view from this cabin is front, side and back, unbelievable!!! On a clear day, you can see for 70 miles. It is also the most serene place we have ever stayed in. The last two days of our vacation, it was 100% rain, yucky and no view. However, we did not care because we enjoyed the view for a few days and the rain made it so cozy. The cabin is so inviting and it is so peaceful, that we stayed in, enjoyed watching the rain, built a fire in the fire place, and enjoyed the quiet relaxation. It is nice just to sit up in the loft and drink a cup of coffee on a rainy day, where there is a cozy bear themed sofa and a rocking chair. A big window in the loft allows you to watch the rain or see the view from wherever you are sitting. There are books in the loft, including children's books. In the dining room downstairs there is a cabinet full of games and decks of cards, so you will never be bored. Our family enjoyed the game room in the basement where we spent a lot of time playing ping pong and air hockey. It is the most inviting, warm cabin we have ever vacationed in. We were there with our son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter and we all had such a wonderful time. We could have stayed there forever. We are so very grateful to Candace and Jack for allowing us to stay in their home. We will definitely be requesting to stay in this cabin again in the future. The drive up to the cabin was quite an experience. We drove up in the fog, so was a little challenging. We had a 4-wheel drive, however, we would have done fine in our car. We drove down in the fog, which was also challenging, but again, quite an experience. We would drive it every day to visit this cabin. MAKE THE DRIVE UP, IT IS SO WORTH IT. BESIDES, WHAT GOOD IS STAYING IN THE MOUNTAINS, IF YOU DON'T DRIVE UP FOR THE SPECTACTULAR VIEWS. Make sure while you are there, to walk out on the deck on a clear night where you will see the most beautiful lights down in the valley, both in the front of the cabin and to the side. They twinkle like the stars. The owners are so nice and so easy to work with. The cabin is fully stocked with everything you need to cook a great meal and have a good time. Thank you so much , Jerry and Sharon Baker, Newport News, Virginia.

Beautiful views and a perfect home away from home!

  • 5 of 5

My husband, daughter and I had a perfect time at your lovely home. The views took our breath away. I, personally, felt closer to heaven! For our week stay, we sat on the porch every morning and every evening for photo ops of the ever changing sunrises, sunsets and hummingbird visitors. The house was designed beautifully. We felt right at home. We enjoyed visits to Black Mountain and the art deco city of Asheville. To be honest, the initial car ride up the mountain to your home made us a bit anxious but it got easier. Thank you for the magical memory!

Everything you expect and more...

  • 5 of 5

What a beautiful home and view~! The pictures don't compare to seeing it in person. The cabin was immaculate and cozy with every amenity you could desire. We stayed with our 4 young children and was able to relax on the back porch peacefully while the kids carried on in the game room. We highly recommend this little slice of heaven~!
