About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 8) Dog? See criteria under description.

The Bonnie Nook is a very charming historic landmark. It was the 8th house built in Cannon Beach in 1908. It is furnished with turn of the century American antiques. The oak library table in the living room is original to the house. There are two small bedrooms downstairs, one with a antique double 1850's bed and matching dresser, and the other with two twin beds and antique armoire.

Upstairs is a very large room with one queen bed and two twins. There is a bathroom upstairs and one on the main floor. The spacious living room has a stone fireplace that houses a woodstove. We have wood that you can use for woodstove only and firepit only.

There is an armoire that has surround sound TV and VCR, DVD, stereo with cassette and CD. There is a closet that has lots of games. The large country kitchen is fully equipped and has an antique harvest table that seats 10.

The backyard has a large deck with two benches. It is very quiet and private and great for sunbathing and outdoor eating. We recently added a fire pit for marshmellow roasting and just sitting around the fire at night.

Once you are there, you do not have to drive anywhere (except home if you can bear to leave). The beach is 1.5 blocks, 3 blocks to town (or the village as some call it) and 2 blocks to midtown.

We have had the house for 18 years. One family has been coming for 17 years and says, 'we are so thankful for your sweet place that has brought our entire family so much joy every summer'. Other comments include, 'we feel so at home here' and 'this is the best bargain in Cannon Beach'.

Again, we have a no smoking policy. We are able to accommodate children over the age of 6. Small (under 20 pounds), well behaved, trained, non shedding dog will be considered .Please let us know if you have a dog when you inquire. Check for fee under rates.

Guests also bring their own linens: sheets, towels and dish towels. Because of this, we are able to keep our rent and cleaning fee lower. If this is not possible, other arrangements can be made.

About Margie or Gary

We live in Portland, Oregon and are both semi-retired. We love to travel, read, spend time with each other, family and friends. We have been married for 43 years, have one married daughter who lives in Bellingham, Washington. She is a award winning wedding photographer. We are proud grandparents to two beautiful girls.

Margie or Gary purchased this house in 1991

Why Margie or Gary chose Cannon Beach

In 1989 we drove through Cannon Beach and it was love at first sight. We noticed that there were no antique stores there and since Margie had a shop in Portland, we decided to open a shop in Cannon Beach. So if you are going to have a shop in CB, it might be nice to have a place to sleep at night. So began our search for a house. When we saw this cottage, we knew it had to be ours. It was sitting on the ground without a foundation, had no heat inside but it had the character and history that we loved. Gary jacked up the house, put in a furnace, new wiring and the list goes on. The history of the cottage is posted inside the house with some original photos. It is also featured in a book called 'Cannon Beach Cottages' by Jill Grady. We love that the house in so centrally located and we do not need to drive once we are there. This is especially nice when the town gets really crowded and there is no parking. Cannon Beach is one of the prettiest coastal towns in the country. We feel so fortunate to have a home here.

What makes this house unique

Great shops, interesting restaurants, long walks on one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, hiking, the fresh salt air.

Cozy, charming, perfect location

  • 5 of 5

When we drove up to this lovely home, we were enchanted immediately. Upon entering, our hopes were realized. This is a cozy, well-appointed house. We enjoyed a fire in the fireplace, we cooked meals in the kitchen--we walked both the neighborhood and the block down the street to the coast. It's close to Haystack and to all amenities, but its setting is still in a quiet location. We hope to stay here again. Thanks so much for this lovely place.

The house was very nice and clean. It is the classic beach cottage.

Very nice stay with nice windy wet weather that gave us a chance to use the fireplace. Then a couple of nice days to enjoy the town and beach each a short walk.

Very comfortable for a family gathering

  • 5 of 5

We wanted a place that would comfortably fit our whole family of eight. This home gave us all a bit of private space as we had a range of ages. The location is great so we could all be convenient to what we wanted to do, whether shopping or eating in town, walking on the beach, or riding our bikes. We even worked in a couple of geocaches. The home was clean and well equipped. I know we will be back.

Delightful home away!!

  • 5 of 5

Neat, comfortable home. Wonderful location. More than met our needs. Our older eyes would have welcomed reading (white) lighting. Would come here again.

Owner's Response: We will check out the lighting. I thought we had adequate lighting for reading but maybe not. It is very important. Thanks for letting us know.
