Come visit and see our gorgeous 2024 room renovations! Beds, furnishings, art, decor - everything is ALL NEW. The amazing ocean front view remains the same ;-)

Hale Kai Hawaii Suites offers four oceanfront rooms (booked individually) and a spectacular, panoramic view of the blue Pacific Ocean and Hilo Bay. We overlook the popular Honolii surfing beach in a peaceful location just 2 miles north of historic Hilo Town. Revel in the best views in Hilo while at our pool and oceanfront lanai!

The Pele Suite offers a garden view bedroom with California king bed and separate ocean view sitting room with a Hawaiian style loveseat, table and chairs, kitchenette (portable one burner cooktop, microwave, small fridge/freezer, coffee maker, hot water pot, dishes, utensils, pots and pans), WiFi, SMART TV, private bathroom with shower, ceiling fans, portable fan, no air conditioning, and sliding door to lanai. Please note: Sitting room has ocean view, bedroom has view of small walkway garden. Continental breakfast items are stocked daily and we invite all guests to swim in the pool or lounge on the oceanfront lanai.

A few NOTES: One parking spot is provided per room in this quiet residential neighborhood. All Guest Rooms are facing the ocean on the lower level of the property and there are over 20 steps down (pictured) to traverse to the rooms. Guests are responsible for carrying their luggage to their rooms. Bookings limited to 2 guests per room (including children). Quiet hours are 9pm to 8am for the comfort of all of our guests, Mahalo!

While at Hale Kai (House on the Ocean) Hawaii, enjoy watching surfers, dolphins, and seasonal humpback whales during their annual migration to the Hawaiian Islands from the north Pacific. Perfect Hilo Area Spot

Just a quick drive North of Hilo. Wonderful views of the surfing on Honoli'i Beach. Clean, comfortable, great pool with views. Everything you need. Great jumping off point for Hilo, the Hamakua Coast, the Volcanoes area, etc. Highly recommend!

This place was perfect for us! The views from the outdoor patio and pool area couldn't be beat. Amazing sunrise every morning and were able to see whales. The unit itself was comfortable, had everything we needed. As mentioned there is no AC but it was still very comfortable with ceiling fans and a portable fan available. The breakfast was tasty with good variety each day. We would absolutely stay here again!

Great views of Hilo & surfers!

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was very happy with the location. I was very satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The Pele suite was great. Had it's own little porch with great views down to the surfing action at Honoli'i Beach and across to Hilo. It is not an entirely private porch since the walkway to the 3 other suites runs between our sliding glass door and the porch, but the only traffic would be another guest leaving or arriving for the day. Very minimal. The suite was simple and clean, nothing fancy, it was great. The views to the ocean and Hilo were what it was all about. Thanks for a great stay!

Great little B&B with beautiful views

My husband and I had a great stay here. Comfortable bed, good continental breakfast, breath taking views, and excellent location. Highly recommend!

Great week long stay on the Big Island!

We chose to spend our entire week with Pele at Hale Kai as our center of operations; couldn’t have been more pleased. Comfortable accommodations, great breakfasts provided, easy access to everything in Hilo, and a fantastic setting. Would do it again without hesitation.

Perfect home base for our travels

Beautiful sunrise views, enough amenities to feel comfortable, and great access to that part of the island. The breakfast items were incredibly helpful! We would stay here again when back in Hilo!

Perfect location in Hilo

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was very happy with the location. I was more than satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Perfect location for exploring Hilo. Easy drive to downtown. Lovely view of the water from the living room/kitchenette and deck. Place was smaller than expected, tiny bathroom but has essentials. Overall comfortable. Amazing continental breakfast (fruit, muffins, hard-boiled eggs, milk) delivered fresh each day. Kitchnette has a plug-in stove and pans, which was handy. They also offer tea and coffee/coffee maker. Since the public path to get to other units is just outside the unit, there's little privacy. The loveseat could also use an update (not very comfortable). For a few days, this worked well for exploring Hilo and surroundings.

Short stay in a beautiful location

The views were gorgeous, loved sunrise and watching the surfers from our deck. The property was a little dated but that’s what I expected, so no surprise. Quite a bargain for the location and views and breakfast included.

Amazing spot!

Ignore the bad review, this was amazing! Beautiful sunrise and surfing views and very secluded. We loved every second here! also the muffins are bangin!

Coqui, surfers and cruise ships

The Pele suite at this property was as pictured on VRBO. Great access to Hilo and all Puna district and Hamakua coastline. The communication with the on island management, (Saltwater Vacations) could have been better regarding a couple of issues during the stay.

Couldn't have asked for more!

Everything was great! It was our second time and we really enjoyed the extra space of the Pele suite! Conveniently located beautiful ocean view great pool and hot tub very clean... easy check in and great communication. Also free daily continental bfast!

Room with a view

This was a last minute booking however we were very pleased! Property has a wonderful view of Hilo Bay. Quiet neighborhood. Room was well stocked and more than spacious. We will definitely keep this on our list for a return trip!

My wife and I spent the weekend at this quaint getaway. Location is fantastic. Just north of Hilo and a beautiful view of the ocean and the most popular surfing location in the area. Owner is fantastic with communication and texted me on the day of my arrival. Sunrises were amazing while enjoying a modest breakfast provided daily. Would stay here again in a heartbeat. Loved the pool and jacuzzi too!
