About the property

Cottage, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4-6)

'Aunt Mary's' vacation home is located in historic St.Ignace in Michigan's beautiful Upper Peninsula. Founded in 1671, St. Ignace is Michigan's second oldest city, and offers visitors a chance to get away from it all and enjoy life at a slower pace.

Aunt Mary's is a two-bedroom, two-bath, fully equipped home overlooking St. Ignace's harbor and lighthouse and historic Mackinac Island. Pull up a chair on the waterfront deck to sit and watch the Mackinac Island ferry boats, pleasure boats, and 1,000-foot-long Great Lakes freighters ply the deep blue waters of the Straits of Mackinac. NOW RENTING YEAR-ROUND!!!!!!

Downtown is a short five-minute walk along the beach and boardwalk, where guests will find gift shops, the Fort du Buade Museum, and a variety of restaurants offering everything from pizza to homemade soups to a local favorite - whitefish - caught in the cool, fresh waters of the Straits of Mackinac. Be sure to try it!

Two queen-sized beds will sleep four comfortably, and the full-size kitchen allows the option of preparing meals at home and eating in. Just bring your food!

If you are traveling with additional couples or family members or having a girls' weekend, inquire about Aunt Mary's upstairs two-bedroom apartment (additional fee). This apartment will only be rented to couples or groups traveling together.

Breath of fresh air

  • 5 of 5

This is our second year staying here, we have been coming to the area for many years and have stayed at many different places, this is by far the best; the home is great, the view is awesome, the owner is very accommodating. We like to fish for salmon and lake trout, there is room for the boat and trailer on site and the public launch is nearby. We also booked the upstairs apartment as my adult children joined us from out of town. They loved the place and St. Ignace, we had a great time and plan to be back next year.

Awesome home away from home!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for two weeks this summer after spending the previous ten years or so staying a little further north near Hessel. A bunch of date conflicts kept us from renting out there this year, so we cast our net a little further out to find a place. St. Ignace is familiar to our family, so we decided to take a chance on a new place and picked this one, as it was in our price range and we liked the view from the photos. Boy, did we luck in to a great house! The owner is great to work with and super responsive. He wants to make sure you enjoy all that St. Ignace has to offer, and that's a lot! We enjoyed the Saturday night fireworks right from the back deck (twice!), the downtown area with shops, marina, amenities and other attractions is literally a couple blocks away and an easy walk. There are three parks nearby, one with a splash pad for the kids, plus play equipment and places to wade in the lake. All three ferry services to Mackinac Island are within walking distance along the boardwalk, or a short car or bike ride if you prefer. There is a Dollar General down along the boardwalk, and a full-service grocery store just a short ride up the hill behind the house (walkable for the adventurous, I suppose). The Trading Post a little north on Busuness 75 has a full-service butcher shop with fresh meats and some great prepared foods, too.

We like to cook at home some days and eat out on days when we are out of the area. The kitchen in the house has a decent stock of cookware and utensils, making it easy to prepare meals at home. There is a gas grill outside and an electric stove in the kitchen.

St. Ignace has a good number of restaurants in town. Some of our favorites include the Driftwood, Fred's Pub, Clyde's (which still has car-hop service!), BC Pizza, the Trading Post... And we still haven't tried some of the other places in town yet, but they look good!

St. Ignace itself has events almost every day in the summer. In addition to the fireworks, there is live music on a few evenings, historical tours and events, movies in the park, daytime events at the library... Seriously, if you come here and are bored, you're doing it wrong!

All that said, our favorite thing to do here has probably been to sit on the back deck and just watch the boats go by. Totally relaxing.

Great house, great owner. Thank you for making our stay so relaxing!

Mike is a wonderful host and went out of his way to make our stay a nice one. The pictures don't do the house justice. Beautiful view. Lots of interesting things to do. Very friendly people. I would highly recommend staying here. Lots to See.

Wonderful place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

This was our first experience with renting a vacation home-SO worth it! The owner is super nice and very helpful. He is truly concerned that you enjoy your stay and wants to make sure you see the sights in the area. He has lots of suggestions and is always available should you need him. The views are spectacular and the fire pit in the yard is an added bonus. My kids enjoyed smores in the evening by the fire while watching the ferrys to Mackinac Island. There is also a super nice park within 5 mins. of walking with beach volleyball , swimming and a playscape! The house was well furnished and clean. I would definitely recommend this place to my friends and plan on returning myself!

Our UP Getaway

  • 5 of 5

This was a wonderful family vacation for us! The house was cozy and the view was spectacular! The sites and attractions of the UP of Michigan exceeded our expectations. The owner was extremely helpful in planning our day trips. There are so many beautiful sites to see in the surrounding area! Mackinac Island was gorgeous, Whitefish Point was really interesting, the Soo Locks were really neat and the Pictured Rocks were mesmerizing!. Additionally, the Mackinac Bridge was truly breath taking! We would love to go back someday. We highly recommend staying in Aunt Mary's place!
