About The Owner

22 years ago, the man that would become my husband and I traveled to Lake Erie on our first date where we enjoyed a beautiful day of sun and fun at Put-in-Bay. That became the first of many trips to the shores and islands of Lake Erie where we enjoyed local entertainers such as Pat Dailey sing his Island signature song, 'Put-in-Bay' at The Beer Barrel, the famous bar that went into the Guinness Book of Records as 'The World's Longest Bar' and Mike 'Mad Dog' Adams with his unique brand of music and comedy. While we enjoyed life on the island, our family grew to include two beautiful daughters who have learned to enjoy the beach just as much as us and we stayed mainland with our first vacation rental. We are sure you too will enjoy your visit to the Lake Erie Shores & Islands.

The Owner purchased this house in 2005

Why The Owner chose Ohio

With a mainland area that spans from Vermilion, Ohio to Genoa, Ohio and inland, plus Kelleys, Middle Bass and South Bass islands, the Lake Erie Shores & Islands boasts more than 150 miles of freshwater coastline and some of the greatest attractions around including Cedar Point amusement park which offers more rides and roller coasters than any other park on the planet, and has been voted 'Best Amusement Park in the World' for ten years in a row by Amusement Today readers.

What makes this house unique

Islands have always been an appealing escape, and Ohio’s Lake Erie Islands are no exception. Middle Bass Island has a tranquil atmosphere and refreshing natural landscape that lures visitors to its shore for carefree, relaxing getaways; conversely, South Bass Island, often referred to by its village name Put-in-Bay, offers unparalleled adventure around every corner. Kelleys Island, the largest of the three, offers a combination of the exquisite natural beauty with a milder blend of adventure and attractions.

Waterpark Capital of Ohio? Absolutely! Not counting Lake Erie - the area’s largest natural water park - the Lake Erie Shores & Islands boasts three primer water play lands. Castaway Bay, Great Wolf Lodge and Kalahari all combine entertainment and aquatic fun under one roof and attract visitors year-round with 80º temperatures.

Known as “the Walleye Capital of the World” this region also brings in anglers seeking yellow perch, smallmouth bass, steelhead trout and many other species. Fishing is productive year-round and can be enjoyed from a variety of shoreline locations or through charter captains or walk-on head boats that make the experience easily available for all ages and levels of experience. Tens of thousands of anglers head here each year to take home impressive catches.

Great location, wonderful perks, very clean

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay! The perks of having the pool right next door and bicycles (especially the tandem) available for use with locks was great. Also, having a garage to use is a nice perk as well. The interior is extremely well kept and very clean. We could not have asked for a better condo to rent and we were surprised that the lake was right there! It is very convenient to restaurants, the grocery store and the Jet Express. For a night in, we recommend Mell Bell's pizza- great slice of pie. We didn't spend a lot of time inside the condo during the day, but we did notice the kitchen was fully stocked, there were plenty of games and DVD's to use, an audio system you could hook your phone up to, etc! We hope to return next year to this same condo. The landlord was very professional and quick with responses. Highly recommend!

If you are not familiar with 'May flies' - oh my heavens, they are a sight to see! Thousands upon thousands of them all over town... crazy!

Cozy, roomy, convenient and pleasant.

  • 5 of 5

We had a great experience staying in this house. The double bunk beds in one of the bedrooms really came in handy for the kids. We also love that each of the three bedrooms has its own private bathroom.

The house was stocked with everything needed to prepare meals, including a propane grill. We loved the large balcony- we had many family dinners here. The balcony also overlooks the community pool, which we loved because we could keep an eye on our teens while they were at the pool. It would be nice to have the grill on the deck as opposed to having it in the garage and having to carry the food up, but perhaps they aren't allowed on the deck.

The 3 house keys with the attached garage remotes were really convenient. We were able to split those up amongst us on days when we split up and went our own way. The kids also enjoyed the 2 person bikes. These were such a treat.

The only suggestion I have is maybe having a larger trash can in the kitchen. There was a small trash can, like once you would put in a bathroom, which we had to empty about 3 times a day with our group of 10. A larger one would Be convenient.

The owners were nice enough to leave a bottle of wine for us. That was such a nice welcoming gesture.

The home is also conveniently located to a beach, a park and many hole-in-the-wall restaurants. The area surrounding the home doesn't look like much, but there are a lot of hidden gems in the area with lots of history. We enjoyed the live jazz on Wednesday night at Slatter's on Maddison street about 1 mile up the road, which is also where you can catch the Jet Express to the islands.

Rachelle was nice enough to allow us to get into the home early. She let us know once the house was cleaned and ready for us, about 2 hours earlier than check in.

One draw back: We had a chance to speak to some other renters and rentees in the area and we realized we over payed to stay here. That was an bummer to hear. Some of the other homes (actually facing the water) were going for a lot less than we paid. We paid more for 5 days than some of the water front homes go for for an entire week, but now we know what to look for and perhaps we could have negociated a better rate had we asked. Lesson learned.

Aside from that, everything was great. Thanks for helping to make our trip so memorable.

We look forward to staying here again.

Great birthday getaway!

  • 5 of 5

I stayed here for my birthday with 10 of my friends. There was plenty of room for all of us and the condo was absolutely beautiful. We went during the winter so not much was open but it was a great weekend away for such a great price!

Owner's Response: Winter is growing in popularity, with the annual NYE Walleye Drop and Burning Snowman Festival. When our Great Lake freezes, ice fishing is very popular. Camp Perry's world-class air rifle and air pistol training facility draws teams, year-round. We are glad you enjoyed your stay and welcome you and your group back in any season. Thanks for posting a review.

Three weeks in Port Clinton

  • 5 of 5

I was travelling with a representative sporting team and five of us stayed in the house for three weeks. The house is well equipped and it was great for us to have a bathroom for each bedroom. The cooking facilities were good and there was plenty of space for us. The owners made a special trip to give us a key to the mail box as one of the team had something delivered there. This was very much appreciated. The town is very pretty and we enjoyed being so near to the lake. I thoroughly recommend this house for all.

Owner's Response: The Western Basin of Lake Erie continues to draw sport enthusiast and competitors from around the world. - The National Matches, held at Camp Perry since 1907, have become a huge, national shooting sports festival with well over 6,000 annual participants. School students and competition event shooters range from beginners to many of the world’s best. Others include... - The Biggest Week in American Birding, A Birding Festival in Northwest Ohio: "The Warbler Capital of the World" - Prized sport fishing for walleye, in Port Clinton, the "Walleye Capital of the World" - Sports Force Parks at Cedar Point Sports Center, a new competitive, safe, and fun tournament experience for teams of all skill levels. Whatever sport brings you back to the area, we are happy to host your Team again. Thank you for a kind review.

GREAT PLACE - COLD WEATHER

  • 5 of 5

This is a very nice home and VERY responsive owners . . . The house was warm and very inviting. Even with the -3 degrees high temperatures we found our stay to be warm and relaxing. It would be a fantastic location in the summer with many amenities within 1 mile. Everything advertised about this house is accurate and the rental process was easy. GREAT PLACE TO VACATION.

Owner's Response: While most visit the shores and islands of coastal Ohio in the Summer; Winter is growing in popularity, with 2 back-to-back years of a very frozen Lake Erie! Some come for the annual NYE Walleye Drop, others for prized ice fishing and we continue to host teams, from across the country, coming to compete at Camp Perry's world-class air rifle and air pistol training facility. We are glad you enjoyed your stay and welcome you and your group back in any season. Thanks for posting a review.
