About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms + Loft, 3.5 Baths, (Sleeps 6-7)

Our Door County home is a treasure...situated on Lake Michigan and alongside a county park that has limited visitors by design. We are very fortunate to have this piece of paradise to enjoy the lake, sun, stars, and each other. Master bath has a double shower and walkout outdoor shower. Details such as cherry wood and slate floors throughout first floor, Door County stone in countertops and fireplace are examples of attention to detail an architect would ensure his guests enjoy. About Janet Slater

My father designed this home to be a fabulous retreat from city life. Crack any window open and the lake is in the room. Windows abound so the outside is inside. When I come to Door County the stress of day to day life just slips away and the wildlife, lake and new areas to discover bring many moments of enjoyment.

Janet Slater purchased this house in 2001

Why Janet Slater chose Door County

The beauty of this property is that it is on the lakeside, you have peaceful, gorgeous views, the lake in all it's splendor; a full sky of stars; daytime privacy, hiking trails unending, and just a short drive away, when you wish to shop, visit art galleries, eat out, etc. you are close by.

I have at our home a long, diverse list of activities for families, couples, nature lovers, shoppers, gallery lovers, boaters, explorers, as well as recommended restaurants, a calendar of events and directions to sites, parks and towns near by, and essential services you may need.

What makes this house unique

We love the privacy...we have a county park to the south of us, so no one can build or daily encroach on our enjoyment. We have two patios/porches. One is just above the lake with a fire pit and it's wonderful for the evening with friends or early morning tea all on your own. The two person master suite shower and outdoor shower are both a delight. The lights were custom made for the property and add a wonderful texture to the space. The two story living and dining room, along with the Door County stone fireplace are the favored gathering spots throughout the day, with the many sliding glass doors, you feel like you are outside. The Tempur-Pedic king size bed make slumber a dream.

Lovely quiet house right next to a State Park

  • 5 of 5

Lovely house on Lake Michigan. Beautiful sun and moonrise views from all the bedrooms. Last property before a State Park. Great for walking along the lake. Short drive from restaurants, breweries and outdoor activities. Perfect Door County retreat!

Great Escape From City Life

  • 5 of 5

Stayed here while I was in town for a friend's wedding- we enjoyed sitting out on the lakeside deck so much we ended up being late for the ceremony! The house was clean and well-kept, and Janet was an attentive, communicative host. Would highly recommend for anyone looking for a peaceful lakeside retreat just a short walk away from beautiful parks (Cave Point & Whitefish Dunes) and a quick drive from Door County's most popular shops & restaurants. Book it and don't look back!

Lovely home, just needs a little tender care

  • 4 of 5

The picture of the house on the web from the lake is a bit deceiving, there is no shore area that is easily accessible or walkable. Wave action was amazing. We had a fire in the fire pit by the shore the first night, night sky was beautiful and saw the milky way! The yard needs some work especially in front or maybe the wild look is intended. The overall cleanliness of the house didn't really meet our expectations, had to thoroughly clean the toaster oven before using and the cabinet doors were sticky and greasy, but overall the house was very nice and liked that all bedrooms had their own bathrooms. The propane grill would not light so had to use the small weber instead, no big deal. TV was located in the loft area, beany bags and the futon not really very comfortable seating for adults , thought it would be better to have the TV in the living room downstairs or add an additional TV for adult viewing. The remote didn't work despite changing the batteries, but was still able to watch the great selection of movies available, plus the ones we brought. Never did get the internet to connect either, may have been due to the windy conditions on the lake. Overall, we had a great time and enjoyed being out on the deck each night watching the waves roll in. Sunrises were beautiful too!

Owner's Response: One of the aspects of Lake Michigan is that the shoreline ebbs and flows. There is easy access to the water from our house but what the individual who wrote this review pointed out is the lake is higher this year so you can't walk along the shoreline. Sorry to hear trouble with grill and remote. If I or our local caretaker are made aware of such issues, we'll remedy them immediately. Unfortunately we didn't know until reading this review. The cleaning lady must have mistakenly missed toaster oven. My apologies. We never have a problem with the internet, and I was up right after this group and had no connectivity problems. Wish they would have called. The yard is more natural in the front but it is weeded and has plantings. Path is mowed from front to back. Lakeside yard is completely mowed. We aim to have all renters very satisfied! I'll add lake level to site description to ensure future renters have accurate expectations. If you join us, please call with any questions or concerns. You can see by other reviews the vast majority of our renters are very happy.

First time on Lake Michigan side of Door

  • 4 of 5

Property is ideal for three couples with three bedrooms and three baths. View of the lake is spectacular from the house or from the lake side deck/fire pit. Easy access to all of Door County villages and attractions. We would definitely try to return to this house if/when we return to Door County.

Perfect week with the family!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed at this property with our young kids and the Grandparents. Could not recommend it more. The architecture and fine detail of the house was really impressive. It was very clean and well stocked when we arrived. Every room had large windows or doors that seemed to put you right on top of the lake. The kids loved the hiking trail right in to whitefish dunes state park that ends at the yard. We were able to walk the trail to Cave point county park to do the cliff jumping. The beach where people stack rocks is right along the way and that was a lot of fun. We even found a small sandy beach on the way to Cave point that we went to a couple times. We brought our kayaks and went out on the water almost every day. The path down to the water from the yard is a little rough but that was part of the adventure. The town of Jacksonport has a really nice public sandy beach that we visited and whitefish dunes is a five minute drive . We tried hiking to the whitefish beaches from the house. The trail goes all the way there but it was too much for the kids. My six year old was fine but the younger ones were not impressed. We made it but took the car back. All in all if you love being on the water and getting out into nature this gives you a great home base to do that. I highly recommend it and hope to visit again someday.

Another wonderful summer week

  • 5 of 5

This was our 6th summer spending a week in this lovely house. Doesn't that say it all? Beautiful house and yard, stunning view, great location, thoughtful and helpful owners. Three generations of our family in harmony for card games in the living room, cocktails on the deck, dinners from the grill, and s'mores at the fire pit in the evening.
