About John Freer

This home is more than just a vacation home for us. We built the home in 1997 when we first moved to Montana and spent seven wonderful years there. As kids grew and careers changed we chose to move within walking distance from school and be close to all their activities. Our dream is to get our kids off to college (on scholarships of course!) and once again enjoy the beauty and solace of the home.

John Freer purchased this house in 1998

Why John Freer chose Upper Rattlesnake

The view alone was all it took for us to decide on the location.

What makes this house unique

Peaceful setting, minutes from town. One of the most breathtaking views Missoula has to offer.

John's mountain home is wonderfully updated with beautiful kitchen and spacious bathrooms. My family of six spent a week and there was plenty of room for all of us to stretch out, play on the 3 surrounding decks, cozy front porch, store our bikes in the garage, minivan and trailer in the driveway. Best part is that it is 10min from downtown Missoula, but on a secluded country road, we enjoyed being greeted by the sheep dogs every time we passed the sheep farm! There is access to biking/hiking trails right from the driveway. Also, access to fishing/floating/swimming the Clark Fork is 5min away. Hope we can come back again!

Perfect Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We loved it at John's! And just want to reiterate someone else's review, that the photos don't do the condo the justice it deserves. There were 4 of us: one couple and two friends. Perfect for a family or (like us) a small group of friends. The property is really fun too! Just be careful driving up the dirt road to get to the house… as you will might run into the three beautiful herding dogs and sheep from the property nearby, who like to wander into the road! Would totally go back if we ever make it to Missoula again!

Great Mountain Home in Missoula

  • 5 of 5

This home is perfect. Just 5 minutes from the center of Missoula yet in the hills above the city with fantastic views of the river and valley, nestled in trees with a mountain feel. Wildlife all around as a doe and faun just appeared in the kitchen window view. Perfect and well appointed interior, lots of space. Spectacular living room with wrap around deck. All the amenities you could need. A great way to enjoy Missoula and the beauty of Montana.

Wonderful Stay!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here while visiting our daughter at UM. The view from the master deck is unobstructed. Views from the other decks are beautiful as well. The home is convenient to UM and downtown. The kitchen is well equipped. We would definitely stay here again!

What a Place!

  • 5 of 5

Soooooooo........we stayed here in May to attend the U of M graduation and absolutely fell in love with the home. We loved it so much we booked the entire months of August a d September!

The pictures just can't truly relay how absolutely picturesque the site is. The view is unbelievable and watching the sunrise from the master bedroom deck was one of our favorite pastimes. With three other deck on various sides of the home there was always the right solar exposure regardless of the time of day or night! Deer, bear, turkey, chipmunks, hawks, and especially the bald eagle that would sometimes perch on the lower section of the driveway scanning the Clark Fork River were regulars sights! Totally amazing.

Not only was the house in great shape but it had absolutely everything! The kitchen was completely stocked with anything you could possibly want for cooking and baking........from muffin tins to a crock pot, and when we joked to the owners that the only thing we didn't have was a garlic press there was one there the next day!! Our grand kids also loved the log bunk beds and hand-painted mural in the downstairs bedroom.

John and Brigitta were also excellent hosts and great ambassadors for Missoula. They made sure we had everything we needed, helped us find great hidden hiking and fishing spots, the best restaurants, and gave us so much insider information that made our summer in Missoula far more than we ever dreamed. I can't recommend this home and owners enough........and I can't wait until we can get back again. Thanks so much!
