About the property

Cabin, 2 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps max. 4)

Welcome to Sleepy Creek Cabin......

If you are looking for a unique and rustic cabin to relax and recharge in a beautiful mountain setting, you've found it! Private, yet convenient to all the High Country has to offer. Come and experience the charm of a 'real' pioneer log cabin. Enjoy the simple pleasure of nature's beauty and early Americana bundled into one. Take a deep breath, now...exhale!

Sleepy Creek is made from the logs of two authentic 1800's log cabins (from Kentucky and West Virginia) that were re-assembled and joined to make a very unique and comfortable vacation get away. This cabin is constructed of beautiful antique hand hewn poplar and oak logs, wonderful stonework, complete with a cedar shake roof. It is located on over 4 acres of wooded land with a beautiful stream running past the cabin through the entire acreage.

The interior features large rooms with (2) bedrooms and (2) bathrooms. The master is located on main floor (queen) and has a small private bathroom. Black walnut plank flooring, antique knotty pine paneling and soap stone block fireplace blend with newer components to set the stage for this cozy retreat. The second bedroom encompasses the entire upstairs (one double and two single beds) with vaulted ceiling and ceiling fans.

The rustic farm house style kitchen is fully equipped, features all new appliances, but maintains it's country charm with period pieces, including an authentic turn of the century Hoosier Cabinet. There is also a separate laundry room. A 2nd bathroom is located downstairs. But the best part is the covered front porch. Relax to the view of the very noisy creek and the many hummingbirds that frequent the cabin in the summer. Don't forget to enjoy a picnic or nap by the creek - benches, picnic table and hammock provided. Sleepy Creek provides the perfect setting for your relaxation, comfort and enjoyment.

I'M SORRY, WE DO NOT OFFER CABIN FOR WEDDINGS, SPECIAL EVENTS, OR MONTHLY RENTALS.

Sleepy Creek can accommodate a max. party of (4) people or less and is conveniently located to Boone, Blowing Rock, Todd/New River, W. Jefferson and access to the Blue Ridge Parkway is just over our ridge.

About The Owner

Choosing the perfect vacation home is so incredibly difficult and personal. We knew we wanted to restore an antique log cabin, with all the trimmings that come along with the simple, unique craftsmanship of our early pioneer heritage. Twenty years of dreaming, off and on again searching, found us in what we believe is an incredibly beautiful section of the N.C. Mountains. Located in a quiet valley setting, with a cold noisy mountain stream to lull us to sleep, yet within convenient proximity to nearby towns, and Parkway access just a hop, skip and jump away - we were home! A few years, and a lot of hard work later, Sleepy Creek was created, and has become a very special place for us to unwind, enjoy simple pleasures, and make special memories with family and friends. We hope you will visit and enjoy the cabin and area as much as our family.

The Owner purchased this cabin in 1997

Wow, what a cabin! My parents, son and I couldn't have asked for more, especially for my dad's birthday. The cabin was very comfortable and clean but needed better reading light. We loved hiking in the woods and playing in the stream. I would recommend this cabin anytime.

Perfect family getaway

  • 5 of 5

We spent a long weekend here in April 2017. Two adults, two kids (2, 5), one dog. The cabin was pristine when we arrived. The weather was not so pristine, but we had most of one day to splash in the creek (cold!) and explore the ridge on foot. Three inches of rain fell on our second day, so we went into Boone for lunch and candy barrels. Came back to the cabin for a relaxing evening with games and videos. Our stay was very comfortable, thanks to well stocked cabinets and closets. The cabin is beautifully decorated, but with sturdy things that I didn't need to kid-proof. I hope we can return soon, maybe when the sun is out!

Wonderful getaway!

  • 5 of 5

Arriving isn't difficult from the Idlewild route. The mountain road route, though scenic, can be misleading after dark. : )

The location is remarkable. The cabin, a beautiful, charming yet impressive structure, tucked perfectly into the base of a wonderfully peaceful property, provides homage to the hand-hewn timber construction of 100's of years past. Knick-knacks and throwbacks are rustic reminders that comfort your eyes and stir your imagination in every room; but more importantly, don't overcrowd or overpower your senses. (I wouldn't be unhappy if they sacked the TV. ...that's the frame of mind this cabin invites you into, immediately entering the door.)

Modern amenities are available, though seem unnecessary once you begin to relax and breathe in the mountain air. (PS - the coffee pot's in the dishwasher.)

The cabin and grounds are immaculate and the brook babbles on...Nature's white noise. You'll wish you could instantly take in every season this perfect setting will offer.

We took walking adventures twice a day. From the safe gravel roads, to every one-off trail and old, overgrown road we found, we marveled equally at the gate of the Blackburn cemetery as we did from the ridge-top, overlooking the Blue Ridge Pkwy. (Caution: the altitude change of that adventure is significant and can retire you for the evening)

I could go on, but I'd rather just go back.

Kathe is wonderful, polite and was available for any questions, before and after we confirmed our arrival.

Instructions for departure are clear, non-taxing, and come with thoughts of "how soon can we get back?"

Owner's Response: Thank you for your stay at Sleepy Creek Cabin and great review. Sounds like you got some serious hikes in during your visit. The neighborhood roads make for great walks too. One can even hike over our development's ridge to the back entrance and get on the Parkway just around the bend. Thanks again for your visit, and hope you will return soon.

Beautiful Spot

  • 5 of 5

The house is really very cool. It is located on a beautiful piece of property. We went for the quiet and we got quiet. The fireplace functions very well- drawns great right from the start. We loved watching the birds and squirrels eating from the feeders around the home. It was a real treat and we got our mountain fix.

Amazing

  • 5 of 5

We loved that we felt like we walked back in time. The beauty of the structure of the cabin, decor and even the creaky floors take you back. So quiet and serene. The creek that runs next to the cabin is such a beautiful sound. It was nice to unplug from the busyness and technology and just relax. Highly recommend this cabin, especially if you appreciate what a real cabin is and the reminder of a simpler wonderful era.

Amazing!!!! One of the best family vacations we have ever had.

  • 5 of 5

The cabin and surrounding area was perfect. Kathe was amazing with all the info she provides. She was warning and making sure we were prepared for the snow storm we had way in advance. The only thing we wished we had was more time. What a beautiful part of our country. There is so much to do in the area. I would highly recommend to anyone if you have a chance to stay here do it. I will definitely be back in the future.

Map

Once you catch your breath, go have some fun! Boone is just a short drive away. Visit the wonderful downtown shops, catch one of the many concerts, plays or cultural events at Appalachian University. Make time to explore Blowing Rock , great shopping and really good 'eating' places. The kids would enjoy a trip to Tweetsie Railroad, local gem mines and Grandfather Mountain's Swinging Bridge and Natural Habitat Zoo. In the opposite direction towards W. Jefferson, grab your golf bag and head to Mountain Aire Golf Club and enjoy a 18 hole public course in a beautiful mountain setting. Make sure you visit Historic Todd, there you can rent inner-tubes, canoes and kayaks to float down the New River or sit back and enjoy music and story telling events held in the park during the summer.

So, come and enjoy... go as fast or as slow as you want. There is always so much to experience close by in our lovely NC mountains.
