Dauphin Island House Rental Photos and Description

House, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 7)

Bay front AND Gulf Front...Our house is waterfront on the North Sound side (our private Gulf beach lot is right across the street, with easy access---about 300 feet). Enjoy BOTH for the price of one!!

Soothing water on both the front and back of the house! Stand in your living room and look at the beach through both the front and rear windows! This place is so unique---where else do you find a true beach island like this? Whenever we go out to the house, we come back completely recharged and happy.

Pet Friendly! Bring your whole family---we welcome all friendly 2 and 4 legged creatures!!!!

Relaxing!

Like a step back in time! Dauphin Island is still largely untouched by high rises, condos and large developments.

Our house is perfect for just chilling out on the water, walking along the beach, looking at the stars on the deck! We're on the north side of the sandy beach, perfect for small kids and dogs, but footsteps away from the Gulf side with the breakers. The Gulf beach is about 100 feet on the other side of the island (the island is pretty narrow there) and there are NO houses on the Gulf beach where we are, so it's like having the best of both worlds---your waterfront house overlooking the bay and your private beach on the Gulf!

Everything included---complete kitchen, bedding, TV, washer/dryer, cable TV and internet access. PETS ARE WELCOME!!

Email us about our pet friendly Bed and Breakfast hotel in New Orleans,...packages are available if you want to visit the beach plus stop in New Orleans too!

Keywords: House on narrow western part of island, directly on beach overlooking north bay (shallow, calm waters, very private beach). Gulf beach, with breakers, directly across street, with easy access. See both bodies of water from inside house.

Why The Owner chose Alabama

We love this place and we love taking our pooches to the beach. They always enjoy it!!! We are so busy that alot of times we find it hard to get away. We want other people to enjoy what we have enjoyed for years. Thus the reason for renting our beach house.

What makes this house unique

Dog Friendly!!! There aren't that many dog friendly beaches on the Gulf Coast. So please bring your pooch and enjoy.

Owner's Response: We are so happy you enjoyed your stay as much as we love it when we can get out there ourselves! It makes us feel good knowing you all and other folks can get the same feeling of happiness just being out there in the sun and the salt and the breeze! We look forward to having you next year!! Great Vacation

  • 5 of 5

We grudgingly left yesterday and miss the house already! It was fantastic. The house was really clean and was decorated well. It was so light and airy. The pictures most definitely don't do it justice. We had our two teenagers, my mother-in-law and two boxers and there was plenty of room for everyone to sprawl out.

The island itself really was like stepping back in time. No high rises, no t-shirt shops. It was great. We let our teenagers go and didn't have to worry (except the Gulf beach- we could not see them clearly there from the house). The house is located pretty far down the island so we had to drive to the restaurants, etc but it's all only about 2-3 minutes away.

This is a great house for dogs. I really loved the gate on the deck. We could have our dogs out on the deck and didn't have to worry about the stairs. Also, it seems like every beach house we've ever stayed in has those stickers/burrs in the yard that get in their paws. There are none here. In fact, we could comfortably walk barefoot in the yard too.

They have a shower and a hose/sprayer both upstairs and down which was really convenient. There was also a porch swing on the deck that was just lovely. Sitting out there watching the sunset was the best.

The yard itself is really large. Don't worry about the lack of a walkway. They keep a path mowed and that was just fine. Also, there were hardly any bugs while we were there. Based on other reviews we brought a ton of bug spray and citronella but didn't need any of it.

The small beach in the back is great for fishing and would be perfect for families with small kids. Our teenagers prefer the waves so we spent most of our time on the Gulf side. It's a straight walk over but is a bit of a hike. I'd recommend a cart for your gear. The beach there is beautiful and not crowded at all. We had about two hundred feet of beachfront to ourselves every day.

Overall, this is our eighth trip to the beach (Florida and the Outer Banks) and this was our favorite. Steve and Karen made the whole process of reservations, etc. so easy and they were very responsive. We returned recharged and looking forward to next year.

Great place to relax and enjoy the island!

  • 4 of 5

This was our first visit to Dauphin Island, having previously stayed in Perdido Key, Orange Beach, or Gulf Shores but wanting to find a pet friendly beach area. Dauphin Island was definitely more laid back, relaxed and ran at a slower pace than the other areas which was a nice change. The small store on the island did offer just about anything you needed if you forgot to purchase it before leaving Mobile, although you did pay just a bit more for it.

As for the Sea Dream, this was simply a very comfortable, pet-friendly home that offered the best of both worlds! Bay access out the back door and beach access directly across the street! We walked our little dog on both the bay side and the beach side every day and it was like having our own private island! We met very friendly local people from the area and truly enjoyed our stay! There were only minor issues with the home which were unavoidable (one being a bug problem which was quickly taken care of) that the owner compensated us for. Overall, Karen and Stephen couldn't have been nicer, more accommodating and more concerned property managers.

We loved eating at Islanders (great Blue Crab Claws), Lighthouse Bakery for breakfast, and Skinners Seafood had some of the best seafood I think we have ever had! We visited Bayou La Batre to see the fishing and shrimping boats and even met a crew that was nice enough to give us a tour of one of the shrimp boats! The beaches of Dauphin Island offered up the most shells of any beach we have ever been on. We had a couple of rainy days when first arriving, but the weather cleared up nicely after that with warm temperatures, lower than normal humidity, and sunshine right up until the day we left. The mosquitoes were terrible the last few days and kept us out of the yard and off the deck for the most part, but that is to be expected given the area.

All in all, I would highly recommend the Sea Dream as a pet-friendly bay side rental.

A Real Island Vacation!!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time on Dauphin Island, very laid back, non-commercial, uncrowded beaches. The weather was perfect with a little rain on a couple of days to cool things off. The house looked just like the photos, clean, neat and we had everything we needed for our entire stay (I brought a lot of items we never had to unpack). My two grown daughters, their significant others and 8 year old granddaughter had plenty of room to stretch out and do our own thing. My son and his wife came down mid-week staying at a nearby condo but we ate all our meals at the long counter here, grilled out almost every night. The living area was large enough to allow 3 adults to play WII and we worked a jigsaw puzzle at the dining alcove table which took all week to finish. The back deck was wonderful for relaxing with a book, playing games or just watching the barges slowly move their way across the bay. Our two dogs (pointer and lab) absolutely loved frolicking in the backyard and swimming in the bay/gulf. The short walk to the gulf side was just as great, clean expanse of sand, shallow water with small waves allowed for relaxing on a float, riding a boogy board or building sand castles. We visited the Estuarium/Sea Lab and found it well worth the $10 admission. We rented bikes and rode from one end of the island to the other, very little traffic. My daughter's boyfriend even found a place for a crab trap and we enjoyed them for a snack one afternoon. The fresh shrimp bought locally was great! There was an issue with the freezer taking longer than normal to freeze items but after a couple of days, was not a problem. The living room furniture was nice but not very comfortable if you were looking to recline and relax on it, had to keep re-adjusting the cushions. The caretaker called a couple of times to check on us and was very nice. Need to buy groceries/drinks before hitting the island as the local shops are great for things you run out of but pretty pricey. Bring your bug spray when down below grilling or playing in the backyard but was not a problem on the desk, beach or in the house. We will definitely be back, most relaxing vacation I've ever had and gave us a chance to reconnect as a family that we don't get to do on a regular basis even though we all live in the same area.

Owner's Response: Thank you for enjoying out little beach cottage and telling everyone about it! We welcome you back anytime and appreciate your comments about how to make it even nicer! We picked the couches since they can be used as beds as well, but we understand about the cushions...! So glad you were able to enjoy, relax and chill out! Karen and Steve

Dauphine Island-Cant wait to go back!!!

  • 4 of 5

Awesome house for a visit to Dauphine Island....plenty of room inside, and you will love the outside deck. Fabulous for pets, and whether you want to fish the Bay or Swim the Gulf....easy walk on either side...Full Kitchen and laundry room gives you all you need to make a great time there and be able to stay in just like home if you chose. Awesome long counter in the kitchen to eat, and visit at. You can choose to bring some of your own cooking skillets and stuff, but pretty much everything you might want is there. Only suggestion would be for the furniture to be of stronger quality , but overall our family housed 7 people and 3 dogs at Sea Dream for a week and we had a blast. Caretaker of the house was very helpful and very very nice, and the property management was quick to respond to any questions and made the process seemless. We loved our first visit to Dauphine Island and you will too.

Owner's Response: We loved that your whole family, kids and fut kids alike, were able to spread out, and enjoy our little bit of paradise on the beach! We love being able to live vicariously through other people, who get to use our beach cottage, when we can't get out there ourselves! It is a great place to relax and just have the stresses and pressures of everyday work and life melt away! Come back again! Karen and Steve

Perfect

  • 5 of 5

We have been going to Dauphin Island twice a year for ten years (always with our two dogs). This was our 4th consecutive time at Sea Dream. We think it's simply the best. The house is in great shape, (we love the new indoor/outdoor chairs and, although we were happy with the old mattresses, the new covers that arrived when we were there will be tops!) and upkeep is tremendously well done.

We walk on the beaches with the dogs and go swimming in the sound; there's a "swimming hole," without rocks right next to the neighbor's dock. When the gulf's not rough we also swim there. We read and nap, then enjoy the sunset with a glass of wine and this year we cooked fresh red snapper from the local market. Perfect, perfect, perfect! We always wish we could stay longer and I can hardly wait for our next visit.

Map

Beachcombing, birdwatching, watching the dolphins, bicycling, boating, playing in the surf with the kids and the dogs, sailing. Small golf course on island. Relaxing and enjoying one of the last small communities on the Gulf Coast that's largely unspoiled! A true island, that makes you feel you're someplace totally different and serene the minute you arrive! Private, beautiful nature, great for writers, artists, folks who want a break from glitz and commerce!
