Built during the Dam Days, by Bill and Hertha Moore, with Hungry Horse Dam concrete and old-growth Douglas fir from the Rex Brown sawmill, in Coram, the Moore House is solid as a rock. Warm and comfy in Winter and cool and airy in summer, you will relish your stay in the Moore House.
Nestled between Abbot Creek and the Middle Fork of the Flathead River, the Moore House looks south to Columbia Mountain and Badrock Canyon. Just 400' from U.S. Highway 2, access is easy in winter. West Glacier and Glacier National Park are just 9 miles away and Big Mountain Resort is only 20 miles away.
The grounds consist of 2 acres of formal gardens and lawns - ideal for hosting outdoor parties, barbecues and family reunions - and 3 1/2 acres of native forest. There is lots of wildlife and birds to enjoy, with deer, elk, moose and bear frequenting the property, so keep a sharp lookout when you are in the woods.
Canyon Foods, in nearby Hungry Horse, has an excellent butchery and groceries and more shopping is available in Columbia Falls, just 8 miles to the west.
There is lots to do outdoors with world-class recreational opportunities in Glacier National Park and the Flathead National Forest. For those who seek adventure, whitewater rafting on the Middle Fork, hunting and fishing in the Flathead National Forest, hiking and climbing in Glacier and skiing and snowboarding at Big Mountain beckon. For those who prefer to just relax, enjoy the tranquility of your own holiday resort and the amenities of the Moore House.
Patrick & Carol Heffernan. We are only the second owners of this house, which was built in 1947. We have raised our family here and now it is time to share this unique place.
The Owner purchased this house in 1988
Close to Glacier National Park, Big Mountain Ski and Summer Resort, the Flathead River, Flathead Lake and the Flathead National Forest, there are few limits to the recreational opportunities available. Whether it's white-water rafting, fishing, boating, skiing, hiking, hunting and all things outdoors, we love living here and think you will too.
We are a group of 8 women who all want their own beds and this rental house easily accommodated us. We loved the flower gardens and that we were allowed to use the herbs in the greenhouse. We also liked how clean all the towels and bedding was. We had the best trip ever because of the place we stayed and of course the fabulous hiking. Thank you!
We are a group of about twelve experienced VRBO renters, and this is one of the cleanest houses we have ever rented. It is in a nice quiet spot, yet is close to tons of adventure. The house was plenty big enough for a group our size. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a nice, quiet, clean spot to relax after long fun days.
We...6 hikers.... enjoyed the house, location and friendly owners who were very helpful. It's close enough to everything that anyone would need. None of us would hesitate returning and most likely will. Highly recommended for all sorts of folks.
We rented this cabin for a large family reunion at Glacier National Park. The owners were helpful with each of our questions or requests.
The house sits about 8 miles from the west entrance of Glacier. It was very convenient to visit the park, but also seemed secluded. The pictures of this house do not do the place justice. Downstairs is an awesome hot tub with a sauna. The beds were comfortable. Outside was plenty of space for eating or playing games.
I would recommend this house to anyone. The owners were great and this really can't be beat for the price.
Our experience was very positive. We came here to see Glacier National Park and to visit with family we don't see often enough. The Moore House was a perfect spot for us to hang out, cook on the grill, sip wine in the patio area and catch up with each other. We had plenty of room to stretch out with many bedrooms. This was also a very convenient place for Glacier which was awesome!
One of our family members is in a wheelchair full-time. Accessibility is adequate but not ADA standard (if you need that). Small improvements to this would include: bathroom grab bars, railing next to ramp in front entrance.
We felt the hosts, Carol in person and Patrick on phone and email - were both very warm and responsive to all of our questions whenever we had them.
Great location minutes from anything you would want to do, Glacier Park entrance, whitewater rafting, horseback riding, skiing or all the summer activities offered on Big Mountain 25 min away (skiwhitefish.com). Very comfortable older home, beautiful yard and a very nice large covered patio complete with grill. Grocery store, eateries and watering holes all within a mile or less, strongly recommend the Glacier Grill. Do not be concerned about no A/C being listed, we stayed in July during triple digits and the house retained the mornings cool air just fine. Very personable and accommodating owners. We would recommend to anyone and would absolutely rent again.
