Escape the fast-paced world in the Green Cottage on Morro Bay, a very private Cottage. The Cottage is quiet, cozy and sits next to the water on Morro Bay, California. It is a peaceful and romantic guest hideaway for lovers … lovers of nature, art, thought, books, wine, adventure, discovery, solitude and soul, but especially for those who love and love to nurture themselves. There are no jangling phones, fax machines, blaring TVs, traffic sounds or other intrusions on your retreat.

The Cottage says:

“I have a tale to tell, my very own…won’t you come inside awhile and help me sing my song? I may be just a small beach cottage, but step into my entry and you’ll be welcomed by an eclectic mixture of art and antiques collected by my family over the years and lovingly displayed to create a romantic and intimate environment to inspire you during your stay.'

'I sit on a bird sanctuary on the rural Central Coast of California, where I enjoy unobstructed 280 degree views of the Bay and mountains.

'I offer you the opportunity to immerse yourself in nature, in romance, here in 'the middle kingdom' as National Geographic once called my region of California. I am your natural escape, your refuge and your home base for exploring all that is around me and all that is within you.

'Come and stay a spell with me. Read one of my intriguing books filled with short stories or watch one of my many DVDs. Make tea or cook a gourmet meal in my fully equipped kitchen to enjoy by candlelight or under the stars on my kitchen’s deck. Snuggle into my sea foam green king-size bed.

'Curl up with a good book in my corner reading chair, peruse original art on my walls, and discover my handmade baskets and carvings from South America, the South Seas, and local Native Americans. Enjoy a glass of award-winning Central Coast wine as you sit quietly on my deck and watch the pelicans, herons, snowy plovers and peregrine falcons while the sun slips silently into the horizon.

'I have seen and heard many things in my three score and ten years. Like all places where people dwell, there is a spirit here that has been shaped by the personalities, conversations, and temperament of those who have spent time here. I have been occupied by travelers, adventurers, writers, painters, photographers, romantics and naturalists…and by my owners’ four generations of artists and lovers of life. Their presence lingers in the air and invites you to both partake and contribute your own essence to my evolving character.' --- The Green Cottage on Morro Bay

About Pandora Nash-Karner

The Cottage has been in our family for two generations. We have lived on the bay for over three decades and love it, and love to share it with others. The Cottage was originally built to shelter the duck hunters and fishermen who were attracted here, but it was soon bought in the 1950's by our parents and was used as a residence while they built their dream home next door. The Cottage has been our family's guesthouse since then and we've just made it available as a vacation rental. The charm as a family retreat has been retained through the complete refurbishing received in 2009. We have designed the Cottage to provide our guests with the perfect opportunity to immerse themselves in the Central Coast experience. We are not the Best Western -- just the opposite. What our guests won't find here are ringing phones, blaring TV or fax machines -- all by design, although we do provide wireless internet service and a 38' HDTV for watching DVDs, plus over 300 DVDs to choose from. We want the cottage to provide guests with the ability to ESCAPE the fast-paced world. We've tried to provide everything we can think of to make our guests feel pampered and comfortable.

Pandora Nash-Karner purchased this cottage in 1950

Why Pandora Nash-Karner chose Central Coast

This has been a private guest house for our family for over 6 decades. When it is not used by the family, it is available for visitors.

What makes this cottage unique

The bay is part of the National Estuary Program, as well as a designated bird sanctuary. There are many places nearby to view birds, including a private dock. Morro Bay is an important stopover on the Pacific Flyway and winter home to numerous bird species. The north coast area of San Luis Obispo County is a haven for artists, wine and food aficionados, water sports enthusiasts, antique collectors, hikers, mountain bikers, equestrians, and people who appreciate quiet, undiscovered get-away locations. When the lure of open spaces calls you, follow winding country roads to award-winning vineyards for wine tasting, or to grassy hilltops for a picnic overlooking the Pacific. Beautiful Hearst Castle is just 35-minutes away, and beyond that is the splendor of the Big Sur coastline.

San Luis Obispo's initials -- SLO -- precisely describes the speed a visitor should use in examining the area's treasures and pleasures. Go to fast and you'll miss of the off-the beaten path venues hidden back in the hills and canyons like the Pozo Saloon, See Canyon apple farms, Tibor Canyon organic olive oil Ranch or the charming town of Harmony, with a population of 15.

Restful Retreat

  • 5 of 5

I have visited The Green Cottage several times, and each time I return it's like coming home. It is the perfect place for solitude, rest, and reflection. I love strolling the nearby bird sanctuary on morning walks, and stopping at Back Bay Cafe in Baywood for fresh baked scones and coffee. The cottage is well situated to San Luis Obispo, Montano de Oro State Park, and Baywood Park (which has a lovely farmers market on Mondays). Comfortable, well appointed, and you can't beat the location!

Owner's Response: The Green Cottage resonates to special people. People looking for a peaceful, quiet, private spot, away from the madding crowds and busy-ness of daily life. It provides a great home-base for exploring the county, or exploring within. It has hosted famous photographers, writers, musicians and songwriters. Eric Tingstad credits the Cottage for providing the perfect environment for writing two new pieces of music (which are now on his latest CD). The writer of this review is a photographer and food writer and she claims the Cottage is the perfect spot for being creative. BUT, here is the disclaimer: IF you are easily distracted by the comings and goings of the tide, the shore birds hunting for food, the soft and sometimes vivid color of the land and the sky, and great views, then DO plan extra time just for "looking" between being creative.

Another Great Stay!

  • 5 of 5

This was our third stay at the Green Cottage, and it was every bit as good as the previous two. One of the owners greeted us when we arrived with “Welcome home”, and that’s always the way we feel when we visit. The cottage is well-appointed with everything to make for a comfortable stay, and we love the deck overlooking the south part of Morro Bay with Morro Rock in the distance. It’s often hard to leave it for the many fun things to do in this part of California – beautiful walks, hiking, kayaking, wine tasting, …. We’ll be back, and you should try it, too.

Owner's Response: We love our return guests who love our area and the Green Cottage. This couple posted beautiful photographs on our Facebook page while they stayed. It's delightful to see how others view our area, and see through their eyes (lens). There are so many wild places and wild open spaces to see and things to do here along the central coast. I know how difficult it is to leave the deck. We live 2 houses away from the Cottage and have the same problem, and we've lived here 37 years! The birds and tides are so fascinating. Come check it out for yourself!

Owner's Response: These guests were delightful. This was their first visit to the Cottage and they took advantage of the many things our area has to offer. It was fun to watch them explore and then tell us of their discoveries. We look forward to their next visit.

Perfect Little Cottage

  • 5 of 5

This was a wonderful cottage on the water to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Beautiful sunsets, quiet mornings sitting on the porch overlooking the bay, often only the birds to hear. Well supplied and decorated. Highly recommend.

Owner's Response: This was this couple's first visit to the Cottage and they couldn't have been here at a better time. We had sunshine and rain (rare around here lately) and high tides and huge cumulus clouds in a blue sky. The Black Brant have just arrived from the Canadian arctic and are dotting the bay, right in front of the Cottage. The Cottage is the perfect spot to rest, relax, enjoy good books and good company. And it's the perfect location as the home base for major San Luis Obispo County explorations. Come see why we have 167 FIVE-star reviews! We love our Cottage and our guests do too. Most of our guests return several times a year, and we hope Doug and his wife will too.

Beauty and Serenity on the Bay

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the Green Cottage for a weekend getaway to celebrate our anniversary and to just relax and unwind from our busy lives. The cottage was just perfect - an idyllic location right on the bay! It is immaculately kept and the owner, Pandora, thought of everything to make our stay comfortable - everything from fresh flowers and fruit upon arrival, yogurt and local coffee for breakfast, socks to keep our feet warm on the cold evenings, and a bottle and 2 champagne glasses to celebrate our anniversary. If you are looking for a relaxing getaway in a beautiful, serene location - I highly recommend the Green Cottage. We will certainly be back!
