Playing Hooky is beautifully remodeled, modern and airy -- just steps away from all of the shops and restaurants of Manzanita and a short walk to the beach. There is space for your entire group to spread out, with two living spaces and a large patio geared up for outdoor fun! Don't forget to bring your dog, they are always welcome at Playing Hooky! Monthly rentals are very common, significant discounts are available.

Great pet and family getaway!

We loved everything about this home - location, walkability, comfortable linens and mattresses. This is one of the most well appointed rentals we have ever stayed in - will definately stay again!

Great Stay in Manzanita!

My partner, one year old, and dog stayed at Playing Hooky. We had to cut our trip short because our daughter was sick. But, Alia and Justin were very accommodating and understanding. The house was spotless and had everything we needed to have a great stay. The playroom upstairs was our daughter’s favorite spot in the house! It was stocked with toys, books, games, and provided lots of space for her to run around. We loved the landscaping and how close the house was to the beach and Main Street with shops and food. We loved our stay and will definitely be back!

Perfect Family Getaway in the Heart of Manzanita

Our stay at Alia and Jason’s house was absolutely perfect! The location in Manzanita is ideal—just a short walk to great coffee shops, restaurants, and only minutes from the beach. It made exploring the town so easy and enjoyable for our entire family. The house itself was fantastic. We loved the spacious, open concept living area, which made it easy to relax and spend time together, and the upstairs loft was a great bonus. Our daughter absolutely loved it here—she gave it 100 thumbs up, which says it all! Alia and Jason were amazing hosts—responsive, friendly, and accommodating. We felt right at home from the moment we arrived. This lovely house is the perfect getaway, and we’ll definitely be returning for another stay. Highly recommend!

Great location, wonderful floor plan, and relaxing patio

We had a wonderful stay at Playing Hooky. Having stayed in numerous vacation rentals over the years, our family agreed that this home is one of our top favorites. The floor plan was fantastic, particularly the open-concept living space and the upstairs loft that our teenage son claimed as his own. The outdoor patio was another highlight; despite being adjacent to a street, the owners have cleverly designed it to be a private, relaxing area. The location of the home and Manzanita itself were both fantastic. We loved being within walking distance of coffee shops, restaurants, and just a few minutes from the beach. As lifelong Texans, this was our first time visiting the Oregon coast. We considered Astoria, Manzanita, and Cannon Beach, and we are thrilled with our choice of Manzanita. It’s a charming town with plenty of dining options and far enough from the hustle and bustle of the towns to the north. It was also driveable to Cannon Beach, which had few more dining options. Thank you for allowing us to stay in your beautiful home. We hope to return someday!

The perfect getaway

This house was amazing! You know it’s a great place when the kids are pouting or crying that we have to check out! Location is great…quiet area with laid back feel yet still close to all the great towns around it like Cannon Beach, Seaside and Tillamook. Love that this little town and it’s beach isn’t overrun with people Can walk to grocery store, the beach or shops in a few minutes. The house is spotless and has everything you could need! Bikes, beach towels, corn hole, back pack beach chairs and even a skateboard waiting in the garage and lots of games inside. We had so much to keep us entertained. Tastefully decorated and bright and airy with lots of comfort. The place is even better than the pictures. A favorite for our family was the loft for a second living area. The kids had a blast hanging out up there and it gave us adults time to relax and unwind. There’s even a little bar setup for a nightcap or after dinner drink. Fire pit was a hit too and they had a s’mores kit waiting for us. So nice to have a place with no issues and the hosts were super fast with communication and were amazing to deal with! We can’t wait to come back again. Seriously this place is an 11/10.

Family Time

The property is exactly how the pictures portray it. We felt immediately at home walking through the door and being able to have our dog with us was the best! Our host was responsive and so nice. We are talking about an annual stay going forward! Thank you for letting us playing hooky this weekend :)

Delightful details

We had a lovely time! We’ve stayed at many rentals over the years, but Alia and Jason have put a lot of thought into the details. From the first bundle of fire wood to the s’mores fixings, and beach wagon. Things that made us smile and made heading down to the beach that much easier. Can’t beat the location too!

Absolutely lovely!

There aren’t enough stars to give this property! We absolutely loved our stay and hope to stay again next year!! Every detail is amazing and it’s feels so cozy/relaxing. Incredibly well stocked and cleanliness was superb. Communication exceeded our expectations and the owners were prompt. Thanks again Alia and Jason!!

Feels like home

My family stayed during the holidays. We were able to relax, walk to the beach and town, cook, play games, and let the baby nap with ease from this place. The floor plan was good for kids and the house was cozy and stylish. I’m hoping to return next year.

Gorgeous Home

The owners have lovingly remodeled this home and have literally thought of every possible amenity to make guests comfortable here. The house is an easy walk to beach or town and is around the corner from the coffee shop. We spent our holiday here and had an amazing time. Thank you for allowing our dog, who is an important member of our family, to come to such a beautiful property. Your house is stunning.

Look no further!

Not a detail missed at this beautiful home. We enjoyed our nearly month long stay immensely. Everything is so incredibly maintained you can tell the owners take great pride in their property. The binder of info about the house & the town was so organized & so helpful it truly added a real bonus to our stay. The location is just perfect; easy walking distance to everything! Hopefully you’ll be as lucky as us and have some deer families in the yard! The amazing hosts were so kind & so helpful before, during and even after the trip! We cannot wait to “Play Hooky” again!

Perfect in every way!

Where to begin...trust me and just book it now before someone else does! This place gets 5+ stars for everything that matters in a "home away from home." CLEAN~The house was spotless, it honestly looked brand new. It was decorated so tastefully with fun artwork and little touches reminiscent of beach life. Some even made me chuckle! Many rentals don't bother to decorate the walls. It felt like a real, lived in and well cared for home. CONVENIENCE~ the beach is a 10 min walk, bike ride in 2, or hit any shop along the main st of Laneda, which is awesome! An adorable coffee shop is 2 blocks away, and the bike/surf shop Bahama Mamas is around the corner. We were able to make it to the beach quickly each night with just a few minutes until sunset~ what a treat! Grocery and restaurants were walking distance as well, and had everything. COMFORT ~ so warm & cozy! Sofas, chairs, beds were great, and plenty of warm throw blankets. Every room was so well thought out (i.e fans & hampers). My boys (11 & 14) loved having their own space in the loft complete with gaming system. Kitchen well stocked with newer appliances and spices/oils for cooking. They even had candles for winding down at night. Patio was so enjoyable for dining & s'mores! COMMUNICATION ~ From the beginning, they answered my questions quickly and even checked in during the trip to be sure all was good (Alia was a gem!). Even bought us utensils for our crab dinners.The nicest rental experience we've ever had!

Best Rental EVER!

I have stayed at dozens of vacation and business rentals all over the country, and this was quite honestly the best house I’ve ever rented. I can’t say enough about how thoughtful and tasteful everything was, and how perfect it was for me and my family!

Another perfect stay

Our second time playing hooky at the hooky house. Beautifully renovated property stocked with everything you could ever ask for. Likely, you only need to show up with the clothes on your back and be just fine. We especially appreciate the outdoor area with fire pit and the toys in the garage for the kids.

Comfortable, family getaway

Very comfortable place to stay for work and play. All systems worked well, appliances new, beach equipment in good shape, patio and large tables made family dinners easy. Kids loved the loft and Wii sports nostalgia. Highly recommend and planning a return visit!

Perfect for our family

My family and I had a wonderful stay at Playing Hookie. The house is tastefully decorated and more spacious than the photos seem. The location is convenient, quiet, and safe. The house has everything you need at the beach: a beach wagon, chairs, cooler, sand toys, and bikes. We will definitely come back!

Fantastic experience

Our experience staying at this home was fantastic! From dealing with the host to the house and amenities, this house was great. It was super clean/updated, well stocked with comfortable beds. The hosts were amazing, taking every opportunity to make sure our stay was perfect. Typically the pots and pans and other supplies are not great in rentals, but this house was stocked with everything you could possibly need and was in great shape. It was a few blocks to the beach, but very walkable and worth it given the house and the attention the hosts gave us. We had kids in our group under 12, and it was perfect for them as it had an excellent loft area for kids to sleep and play, and an empty lot next to the house for outside activities. Close to the main supermarket and an espresso business that was great for some morning coffee and quiet time if wanted. I cannot recommend this house enough, and will be staying again. Given all I’ve stated above, we would choose this house over one located directly across from the beach, even with small children. The hosts provided bikes, a beach wagon and chairs, and everything else one could think of in terms of activities and entertainment.

Gem of a house! Can’t wait to stay again!!

We rented this house for 5 days/ 4 nights. We fell in love with the house the minute we got there! The house is super cute, beds are super comfy, it’s well thought out & decorated. The location is fantastic in that you can walk to the shops, the beach, and there are 2 well stocked grocery stores we walked to in less than 10 minutes. The outside area is really pleasant with lots of birds singing, and a great fire pit and outside eating area! Overall, a great house to rent for friends or family! Overall a fantastic gem of a beach house!

We live just outside of Portland and Manzanita is our happy place! We love to travel the US and the world with our two boys. We bought our Manzanita home as a weekend getaway and remodeled it down to the studs to create a bright, modern retreat for our family and others to enjoy.

Having lived in central Amsterdam for several years, and absolutely loving the town of Manzanita, we searched for a home where we would be able to walk to everything in town as well as the beach. We also love modern, light-filled spaces and this home has incredible natural light thanks to it's south-facing setting.
