ONLY 3.5 HOURS FROM THE NORTHERN SUBURBS OF CHICAGO!! Sturgeon Bay is as much as an hour closer and more convenient than many other Door County towns. In fact, from 94/294 all the way to Sturgeon Bay is now all (at least) four-lane highway.

Imagine yourself in this clean and upscale cottage in the woods across the street from Lake Michigan's beaches.................

Hidden Glidden Cottage is a charming and clean and cozy two-bedroom, two bathroom cottage romantically hidden behind a sand dune on scenic Glidden Drive, east of Sturgeon Bay in beautiful Door County, Wisconsin! Glidden Drive meanders peacefully along the Lake Michigan shore. The house is nestled in the woods across the street from the lake and you have beach access rights to a wonderful sandy beach only 250 steps up the road.

You will find that the private, picturesque location boasts decks on all sides of the house, as well as a peaceful screened porch. Since this is our family vacation home, you will find it equipped with all of the niceties and conveniences we like to find when we arrive. In the kitchen you have a microwave oven, full-size oven/stove, full-size refrigerator, disposal, toaster, blender, coffee maker & grinder, small food grinder, pots & pans, glasses, plates, bowls, cups, cutlery, etc. In the main bedroom you have a pillow-top queen-size bed, attached, newly remodeled full bath with marble-topped vanity, a Toto toilet and a bathtub, and a television hooked up to cable. The second bedroom features a queen-size bed, a television with cable and small, secluded and private outdoor deck with a porch swing. Both beds are furnished with upscale linens for your comfort. The guest bath features a cheerful sunflower motif and a walk-in shower. The bedrooms have Berber carpet. The great room has Hickory hard-wood floors.

The kitchen is conveniently located in a corner of the great room, which also includes a dining area with a rustic table for six as well as a lounging area in front of a large, wood-burning, fieldstone fireplace. There is a CD/Cassette stereo as well as a television hooked up to cable and DVD/VCR combination. We have also included a small selection of movies, games and books for your enjoyment. The sofa in the great room is a queen-size sleeper with a memory foam mattress. Off to the north of the great room, through French doors, is the peaceful screened porch, which is furnished with comfortable white wicker furniture. Through the wall of windows to the east of the great room is a large deck with adirondak lounging furniture and dining chairs and a table, as well as a gas grill--perfect for outdoor dining and also for curling up in the sun or shade (depending on time of day) with a good book! Nature lovers will adore the view, and there are three bird feeders near the deck, as well as a bird bath. Bird seed can be found in the garage.

For your convenience, there are a full-size washing machine and dryer in the closet adjacent to the entry hall. There are beach towels in the linen closet, and the garage is equipped with beach chairs and toys, tennis racquets, an ocean kayak, a basketball and a couple of children's bicycles.

The rental fee includes all listed conveniences, normal cleaning (no dishes or pots left in the sink), washing of used linens and towels (one set per person staying), local and long distance telephone service and WiFi. We request a Damage/Breakage Deposit, which will be returned to you after the house has been turned over in good condition and we have received the keys back in the mail (if applicable).

About Kevin Forrest

My wife and I and our two young adult daughters live in the northern suburbs of Chicago. We would love to have you and your family as our guests in our home away from home.

Kevin Forrest purchased this cottage in 2003

Why Kevin Forrest chose Door County

My family and I have traveled to Door County since I was a child. My wife and daughters so loved spending time at my parents' home down the road, that we all decided that we wanted to own our very own slice of paradise.

What makes this cottage unique

We enjoy the very homey feeling that our property has. It is a very comfortable home with many places for relaxation.

LOVELY

  • 5 of 5

Everything about this cottage was perfect. Super clean and very inviting. Grandbabies (ages 7 and 6) really enjoyed boogie boards! Had not been to Door County in over 30 years so got to relive happy memories with my daughter and make new ones. Thank you for your hospitality and the bottle of wine !

Clean and Quiet

  • 5 of 5

We found Hidden Glidden Cottage clean and hidden away which made it a very quiet place in which to relax from the noisy world. We cooked outside for each meal and were able to have meaningful conversations during our stay. There were four of us - myself and my wife and two friends whose husbands left us last year. It was good for them to get away.

I just followed orders, cooked and drove.

Was not the right home for our family

  • 2 of 5

This was the first time we stayed in the Sturgeon Bay Area, usually stay in Fish Creek. Absolutely fell in love with this location. It is a short drive to Whitefish Dunes Beach and 1/2 hour to Penninsula State Park. This was the second time we have used a VRBO house and this owner was a pleasure to work with. He answered all of my questions especially where to dine. We ate every night at the Donnie Glidden Supper Club which is a few minutes up the road. I wish this property had worked out for us but sadly it did not. When going back and looking at the photos, they are obviously not all current. I think perhaps VRBO should require new photos every so often. Upon arrival, the grounds were not well kept. The step on the deck is in need of fixing. The sheets and some towels were badly stained and do need replacing. The smaller bedroom mattress has a foam pad on it that would bunch up making it uncomfortable. It needs a better cleaning. The one issue that concerned us was the master bedroom bathroom light fixture. The lens cover was obviously missing and replaced with a piece of cloth held up with thumb tacks. Perhaps the owner was not aware of these issues and so I did advise him. For a smaller house they made good use of furniture placement and the sofa is newer. The beach access was a bit farther than we had hoped but you can drive there. Unfortunately , the beach area was smaller and not as sandy as we expected. We still were able to have a good time.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the positive comments about dealing with us. We are very sorry that you did not seem to understand the style of the place is relaxed and woodsy. The photos are current. The house is cleaned after every use. We apologize for the mice droppings and will review better inspection with our cleaning crew. The linens are periodically replaced and we are sorry that this guest did not find them satisfactory. Obviously, you can't please everyone. Please read our other reviews to get a balance perspective. This guest is retaliating because they locked our garage (which was intentionally left unlocked, because there is presently no key), and we advised them that they may be liable for locksmith charges, if they could not get it open - which they did end up doing. The bathroom fixture cloth covering is in an effort to soften the look, and does not touch anywhere near the bulbs or wiring, so is not in any way a hazard. We will review the matress pad as well, as we were not aware of this issue. With regard to the beach, it is the Lake Michigan shoreline, so the sandiness and size are the result of nature and the depth of the lake, which changes based upon nature. Perhaps this guest, having never before stayed on the Lake side of Door County, is unaware of this.

Great for a weekend get-away.

  • 4 of 5

There were six of us that stayed in the cottage for the weekend and we had a great time. It was clean and quaint. There was adequate seating indoors and outdoors and the kitchen was stocked with essential for cooking. We enjoyed the outdoor space to build a campfire every night (bring your own wood). We also felt very welcomed by receive a bottle of wine and coffee for our enjoyment. Free wifi and cable was also a plus!

The one negative of the outdoor campfire area was that we noticed an unpleasant odor outside. We didn't notice it the first night so it might have been a one time issue or smell from another house.

Overall it was a good size to accommodate 6 adults for two nights. We had a pleasant stay and I would recommend this to a friend!

Great stay at the Hidden Glidden

  • 5 of 5

We had a great stay at the Hidden Glidden. Probably the most furnished kitchen that we have stayed at - also very well decorated, which makes you feel right at home! It was nice not being directly on the beach as it was super windy both nights. Thanks for keeping up a great getaway!
