Overview

About the property

House 3BR/2.5BA (Sleeps 7-9). Pls inquire about add'l lodging for larger groups

Mountainside Lodge is located in the heart of historic downtown Harper's Ferry, and in the middle of Harper's Ferry National Historical Park. Don't be fooled by other vacation rentals and B&B's claiming to be in Harpers Ferry when they are not! This one-of-a-kind vacation rental is located in a 2-1/2 story brick federal-period building built in the 1830's, and renovated in 2004-2005. The house shares the building with a family-style restaurant (Potomac Grille). The house was originally 2 townhouses, and the center walls were removed in the 1970s to create a large open space on the 1st floor. While the house's exterior painting scheme reflects this original configuration and looks like 2 separate units, the vacation rental spans both spaces (see photo). The building was used during the civil war by both Confederate and Union Armies, primarily as an infirmary/hospital, and is a stop on the Harpers Ferry Ghost Tour.

The first floor of the house features a large open living room/dining room, a full modern kitchen, 1/2 bath, and a large porch with fantastic mountain and river views and views of Harpers Ferry gap. The inside space features hard-wood floors, exposed brick walls, an exposed beam ceiling (many of the beams are original hand-hewn), and large windows looking onto the mountains and the Potomac River. There is a TV, DVD player, VCR, games and toys, and a 10-seat dining table on the 1st floor. A highchair is available upon request. In addition to modern amenities, the house is decorated in fantastic period antiques.

The second floor has 3 bedrooms, 2 full baths and a laundry room w/ full-sized washer and dryer, and offers views of the Potomac River. The master bedroom has a Queen bed and a comfortable full-size futon (comfortable for 1 adult or 2 children). The second bedroom has a Queen bed, and the 3rd bedroom has a twin/full bunk bed (twin on top; full on bottom). The configuration is ideal for two families (4 adults and up to 5 kids), 2-3 couples, or 6-7 friends! All three bedrooms have TVs and DVD players and comfy sheets, mattresses and pillows.

The building sits atop a steep hill, and there are 65 stairs leading down to the 2 parking spaces reserved for the vacation rental in the rear of the building. The front-door to the house is at street-level, so door-to-door drop-off of luggage is possible.

Location! While you will find many vacation homes with an address of 'Harpers Ferry', they are not actually IN historic downtown Harpers Ferry amongst the museums, natural beauty and history. But this one is, check out the map.

What makes this house unique

This vacation rental is located in the heart of downtown historic Harpers Ferry and in the middle of Harpers Ferry National Historical Park. It offers fantastic views, historic charm and significance, and prime location. It is amongst museums, shops & restaurants, steps from the Potomac & Shenandoah Rivers, the C&O canal towpath, Jefferson Rock, Virginius Island, the Appalachian Trail, Maryland Heights and Loudoun Heights. Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races is a short drive away, as are a number of Virginia Wineries. There is a large porch that looks onto the mountains, the Potomac River, and Harpers Ferry gap. Kids (and train-loving grown-ups) love to watch the trains pass on the very active rail line and you can even ride the train to this destination, as it is in walking distance to the Harpers Ferry train station, which services both MARC and AMTRAK. The house is bicycle friendly (there is ample space inside to store bikes), and being within walking distance to the C&O canal towpath, is a perfect spot for towpath riders. There are fantastic hikes, from easy to strenuous, right outside the front door (no need to drive). The house offers a large open floor plan perfect for larger gatherings, and the whole home is clean, nicely furnished and maintained. We strive for customer service and try to provide everything that a guest might need, including detergents and hand soaps, sugar, salt, pepper, basic spices, coffee filters, toilet paper, papertowels, napkins, etc., etc., etc. Our guests tell us over and over that this is the most well-stocked vacation rental that they have ever visited.

Cherished Memories

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay! The house was amazing! I had a surprise bachelorette party for my daughter! I didn't tell her we were staying in Harpers Ferry because she is a beach girl and if I told her we were going to the mountains she would not have been very thrilled. But I knew she would love it when we got there. How could you not love Harpers Ferry? When we walked into the house she just started crying and saying how beautiful it was. It took our breath away. It is the perfect location, so much room, clean and has all of the ammenities you need. Jill was very attentive to our needs and got back to me quickly when I had questions. I'm surprised she put up with me. LOL I would highly recommend staying at this beautiful place.

Our family thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this historic vacation home! The view was beautiful, and the accommodations were spacious and comfortable. The location is central to all Harpers Ferry activities and amenities. The home was fully furnished and the kitchen was stocked with everything one could possibly need to prepare meals. We would definitely stay here again! Thank you to Jill and Rich for our stay in this charming home!

Great place in the heart of Harpers Ferry

  • 5 of 5

My extended family and I rented this house and loved it! My nephews loved watching the trains from the deck and we enjoyed being in the heart of town within walking distance to the park, river, restaurants, etc. Our dog loved being part of the weekend and going to all the dog-friendly restaurants in town. The kitchen was fully equipped and the beds were comfortable. We felt so lucky to be able to stay in such a historic house. Highly recommend!

Perfect location - neat house!

  • 5 of 5

A perfect way to experience the history of Harpers Ferry in an historic home right on the main street that had all modern amenities. We enjoyed several hikes in the area, the shops, and all the history - and this house was a perfect base for this. Would highly recommend!

Harpers Ferry Hideout

  • 5 of 5

Visiting family from the area and our stay surpassed anything we could have expected. Felt as though we were part of the "Harpers Ferry" Community. Proximity was amazing. The views were breathtaking and can't wait to visit again.
