Welcome to our little 2BR/1BA 1937 bungalow!

This little house is in the BEST location! It is just 7 short blocks to our beautiful waterfront park where you can enjoy one of the many 'porch swings' facing the Beaufort River. There are lots of restaurants, shops, and galleries accessible from the park and from Bay Street. The historic Point neighborhood is just 4 blocks from the house. This is a great area to wander and explore - filled with antebellum mansions where planters and their families spent summers enjoying the almost constant breezes from the river. Also - this house is such a popular rental that we have converted our other little property, Duke Cottage, to a VRBO. If this one is booked, or if you need additional space, please look at VRBO #326642. We also recently added our 'health and fitness destination' VRBO #631501, just 4 houses from the Spanish Moss Trail in the Hermitage Neighborhood.

This house is beautifully furnished with pieces from Century and Hickory White. There is a gracious dining room with a chandelier above for ambiance. One of our favorite guests is an artist and he did a small watercolor of Baby Charles while staying there - he had it framed and it hangs in the dining room. Another guest did an impasto for the bathroom, and recently another guest did a great photo that now hangs in the kitchen!

The bathroom used to be the low point of the house, but is now totally (I mean all the way down to new floor joists and new sheetrock - TOTALLY NEW) renovated and FANTASTIC! It has a step in shower with dual shower heads each with their own control. The shower doors are thick frameless tempered glass with bright chrome fittings. In keeping with the era, the walls are white 'subway' tile and the floor is black and white mosaics. The vanity has a beautiful granite top, and stores plenty of additional towels below. The window has an insert of frosted glass in front of it for privacy, while still allowing light into the room. It's really special.

The kitchen is fully equipped and there is a full size washer dryer. We added shelves supported by antique metal brackets across the windows above the sink. It is a fun way to display all the plates, mugs, and glassware and it freed up cabinet space for groceries.

The Master has a queen sized bed, and the 2nd bedroom has a day bed with 2 twin mattresses. All mattresses are 2010 Sealy, and all linens are high thread count cotton. This is a very cozy, quiet little home. A while back we switched out all of our Queen bedding to white European Duvet & Shams for the cooler months - IF we ever have them this year - there will still be the high thread count sheets, but instead of our white cotton Matelassé Coverlets, you will have a freshly washed duvet cover and shams that can be used for sleeping. These are changed between each guest. It's more work, but it as we discovered, it is a better sleeping experience for the guest!

For your entertainment there is a 32' Sony TV with HD cable, a DVD player with surround sound, and a VHS player. In the Master bedroom there is a CD player.

Outside, John installed a GORGEOUS antique brick patio (10' x 50') that we have furnished with custom 'South Carolina adirondack chair' seating, made by our neighbor, Todd. The seating group includes 2 lounge chairs with ottomans, and a settee. There is a 'ceiling fan on a stick' to help keep the 'skeeters away and provide a breeze when there isn't one. You can now dine al fresco, as we have also added an outdoor dining table and chairs. There is plenty of shade, so no umbrellas are needed.

Pets are allowed with prior approval and a refundable security deposit. Please discuss with us the kind and size of the pet you wish to bring so that we can determine it's appropriateness.

As soon as our son went off to college we headed south! We looked for 6 years, focusing on the stretch of coast between Amelia Island and Charleston. We just kept coming back to Beaufort. Being downtown is such fun - we can walk and bike to everything. We love to boat and fish and the lifestyle here is perfect for that!

Why Erica chose Historic District

We bought this little bungalow just 6 blocks from our main house to use as an overflow guest house when we have big groups of friends come to town. We had a whole house full of furniture from my mother-in-law's house in FL to deal with, so the timing was perfect. We decided to rent it when we aren't using it, and that's what got us here!

What makes this house unique

Baby Charles has been so popular, we bought the cottage right behind it! Have a look at VRBO #326642, Duke Cottage. The properties are adjacent so, if you need more space, consider booking them together! It is an easy walk to the waterfront and all that area offers. Great restaurants, shops, and art galleries are all right there. We keep a binder in the house filled with local info and recommendations.

We have also added VRBO #472201 - a spectacular 1830 antebellum home we just totally renovated! 1 block from the waterfront park.

Our newest addition is Hermitage House #631501, in a great neighborhood 1.4 miles from this house adjacent to the rail trail!

Beautiful, clean and close to everything

The house had everything for our stay. The bed was very comfortable. The bathroom remodel was done very well. The location was an easy walk to restaurants and shops. It is an easy walk to pigeon point and old point neighborhoods. Very easy to see the sights in historical district. It also is located in quiet part of town. The binder in house has great recommendations that are spot on. We have used VRBO several times in past. This was the first time we felt like it was a home and not another rental unit. Would definitely come back.

Charming South Carolina Home

I love staying at Baby Charles, love the special touches, love that there is everything I need. Close to many restaurants and shopping. I love to walk and in addition to walking all around town, this time I checked out the Spanish Moss Trail. Next trip I might rent the house close to the trail, it too is adorable like Baby Charles.

We were thoroughly impressed with the home, amenities, and thoughtfulness of Erica andJohn. The home was charming, clean and had all of the amenities

needed for our stay. Their binder containing all of the pertinent information involving the home, community and area was very helpful. We wished that the downtown stores were open longer into the evenings to allow for more shopping time. Make sure that you check out the Chocolate Tree for some sweets, The Breakwater for an elegant night out and for casual waterfront dining the Dockside on Lady's Island.

Baby Charles was lovely

Baby Charles was a lovely small home, just a few blocks from downtown Beaufort. It was very clean with some recent renovations. From here we went to Charleston and Savannah and just south to Hunting Island for a beautiful day on the beach and another day on a guided kayak tour www.beaufortkayaktours.com. Baby Charles was a centrally located treat. The bed and sheets were so comfy and helped with a deep sleep after long days. We had good weather for our trip but on the last night there was a huge storm and the power went out in Beaufort for a couple of hours. We had a lovely dinner of leftovers on the protected front porch watching the tropical storm pass through and drop the temperature. The power and the A/C came back on and we had another restful sleep before leaving the next day.
