Property type lodge
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

Lodge, 6 Bedrooms, 5 Baths, (Sleeps 22-24)

Welcome to Walled Lake Lodge. Not far from Gaylord, Michigan, Walled Lake Lodge is the perfect spot for you and your loved ones to spend time relaxing, sleeping in and having fun outdoors. It's a great gathering place for family reunions and old friends alike.

Our 4,400 square-foot log cabin is nestled among 600-acres of wildlife-filled pine forests and clear blue waters while still offering all of the comforts of home including a full kitchen, washer/dryer, cozy beds, heating/cooling and much more. The lodge sleeps up to 22 guests comfortably and has room for a few more if needed.

Joining us for the summer? Hang out on the dock soaking in the sun with a good book or casting a line to see what fish might be biting. Take a dip in the refreshing water and swim out to the raft. You can take a leisurely ride around the edge of the 40-acre lake in one of our canoes or row boat. Spend the evenings around a bonfire roasting marshmallows, sharing stories and enjoying each others' company. Or sit around the table on our screened-in porch playing cards, board games or just chatting the evening away.

Need to get your feet moving? There are over 6 miles of 2-track roads on the property of Walled Lake Lodge. Take a nice peaceful walk, you might even come across white-tailed deer feeding in the nearby fields or perhaps even an elk or 2! If you're up during the winter, strap on some cross-country skies or snow shoes and get moving. Or bring your snowmobiles and explore the property.

Want to explore beyond our private property? You're in luck, our cabin falls right at the edge of Northern Lower Michigan's Pigeon River Country State Forest. The second you set foot outside our gate, you're on state park land, with over 95,000 acres of trails and rivers to explore (and fish). For more information on The Pigeon River Country State Forest, visit their website or stop by their headquarters during your stay.

Besides exploring the surrounding state park, there's a lot to do just a short ride away:

- Visit Mackinac Island

- Get a day of golf in at one of the local resorts

- Visiting in winter? Bring your downhill/alpine skies or your snowboard and head to a nearby Northern Michigan ski resort

However you choose to spend time at Walled Lake, we know you'll enjoy it.

We stayed at the lodge for three nights in early June 2016. We had eleven adults and one toddler. There was plenty of room for everyone. Gary, the caretaker, gave us a fabulous orientation. We were extremely impressed with how beautiful the lodge was. We had our own private lake which we thoroughly enjoyed - kayaking, canoeing, and swimming. We are all nature lovers and were thrilled to see two eagles, a loon, deer, among other animals. There is ample space between the lodge and the lake to play frisbee, and catch. Nice setting for our campfire. We went on some beautiful hikes (be sure to bring plenty of insect repellant - especially if you are concerned about ticks). We had a great time and have already scheduled a return trip for next year!

Outstanding and beautiful retreat!

We stayed here with our children, spouses, and a toddler grandchild. The experience far exceeded out expectations! The location is very remote. Be sure to bring everything you need for your visit as you don't want to have to waste your time running errands. There is a stereo with speakers throughout the living space, multiple tables so groups can be playing games or cards in separate areas. Ample refrigerator space. Laundry facilities came in handy for cleaning and drying swim suits and towels. We're looking forward to returning next year.

A group of 11 stayed here for Memorial Weekend 2016 and it exceeded all of our expectations. The owners of the Walled Lake Lodge are amazing people and do everything they can to prepare you for your stay before, during, and after. The pictures they family provide are great but don't do the lodge justice! It is so much bigger than you could imagine. Right in the middle of no-where which is exactly what we wanted. If you happen to forget anything that's okay, the lodge comes stocked! (which is VERY nice seeing as it is about a 20 minute drive to get to the lodge from town) My group was all able to gather and hangout together, but we also had enough room that if you needed some alone time that was okay too! The lake is clean and has amazing views at night when the sky is clear. We all already agreed that we will definitely be back!

Family Heaven

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 24 had a wonderful and relaxing week at Walled Lake Lodge. Despite having 11 grandchildren all under 9 years old, it was one of the most relaxing vacations we've ever had. Lots of fun in the water, kayaking, swimming, canoeing, jet skiing, and of course minnow chasing. Many memories of staying up late around the campfire and waking in the morning to coffee brewing and the decision of what to eat made on the huge griddle. Can't wait to return next summer.

Haven of Bliss!

  • 5 of 5

Best family vacation house we've had yet. The ten kids found lots to do on the grounds while the ten adults relaxed on the truly HUGE pier. This grandma loved the isolation and the absence of TV, motors and the spotty internet/phone connections! The accommodations allowed each family to have their own bathroom and sleeping space, which is rare and much appreciated by all--especially the in-laws! We are grateful the McIntyres are kind enough to share their little bit of heaven.

Amazing stay for Family Reunion

  • 5 of 5

My family who lives out in the Western US came to Michigan for a family reunion. Many had not been to this area before the reunion, but I told them all that anything outdoors we would want to do, we could do in Michigan, and so they came. In the end we had 21 people from four siblings families and my parents. We needed a place that could hold all of us. After looking into several properties, I discovered Walled Lake Lodge. The owners have been wonderful to work with over the past year to plan this. They were very accommodating with our arrival and use of their property. I personally viewed a number of potential places, and it was clear after visiting, that this was the right place for our reunion. Here is why.

1. It is spacious. There are so many gathering areas-the main great room, the screened porch, the loft area, the second family room/game room, and then of course the outdoor property. We were able to all be together but in different pockets doing different things. But when we wanted to all play a game, or eat or talk, we could do so. That was a big plus to us.

2. It is isolated. It takes a bit to get there and to get out, but we found everything we would want to do, we could do there--hiking, biking, floating on the river, swimming in the lake, fishing, boating. We could do it all there. And, there were no neighbors to hear or to annoy but the animals (the coyotes were pretty active and loud one night, and the eagle stared at us from his tree throughout the week). We could sing around our campfire without bothering anyone and without being bothered.

3. The grounds and lake are awesome. The water was warm enough to float or swim in, and the lake was small enough and calm enough to paddle all over but large enough to use and enjoy. We rented a jet ski for the week, and it was perfect to have to use at the lake. The grounds are flat to and from the property which made it easy for small children and older folks with knee issues. We set up badminton/volleyball and ladder golf and played around in the yard. We loved sitting on the dock, fishing from the dock, and chatting on the dock. The water is so clear and beautiful.

4. The property is set up to really allow you to relax and have fun. The owners have really gone out of their way to make the place nice and accommodating with extras that are wonderful-kitchen appliances, space, things to use and enjoy, and there is a clear sense that they love their place and want you to love it. And we did!

About The Owner

Walled Lake Lodge is owned and managed by the McIntyre family. We bought the property in 1988 and built the cabin ourselves with the help of family and friends. It's a place we think of as home. The lodge is a labor of love that began with a small bunk house and has continued to expand with our ever-growing family. Our family is a well traveled bunch, however our hearts remain at Walled Lake Lodge. We hope you enjoy our favorite place in the world as much as we do and look forward to welcoming you soon. -The McIntyres

The Owner purchased this lodge in 1988

Why The Owner chose Hillman

Tom McIntyre, a.k.a. Gramps, purchased the property around Walled Lake in 1988. Together with family and friends, a small bunk house was built in 1990 and continued to grow over the next few years into the lodge it is today. Based in Traverse City, Michigan, the McIntyres have always enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, skiing, snowmobiling, swimming, water skiing and much more, and Walled Lake was the perfect, Northern Michigan secluded escape they wanted.

What makes this lodge unique

Walled Lake Lodge is the perfect spot for large families, groups of friends or family reunions. It truly is a place to slow down, spend time with loved ones, eat, sleep and relax to your hearts content. Walled Lake is surrounded by private property, so guests have full reign of the lake and property around the lodge during their stay. They have access to fishing, hiking/mountain biking trails, wildlife lookouts, snowmobile trails and much, much more. Walled Lake Lodge has to be experienced first hand to truly be appreciated.

Located on 600 private, wooded acres with 3+ miles of two track roads and a variety of wildlife including, elk, deer, fox, coyote, bobcat, black bear, bald eagles, loons, otters and a variety of other wildlife. Access to fishing for largemouth bass, bluegill, and perch in the 40 acre private lake (we own the entire lake) as well as brook trout in the mile+ of Black River frontage. Board games, and cards available to use.
