Lodge, 6 Bedrooms, 5 Baths, (Sleeps 22-24)
Walled Lake Lodge is owned and managed by the McIntyre family. We bought the property in 1988 and built the cabin ourselves with the help of family and friends. It's a place we think of as home. The lodge is a labor of love that began with a small bunk house and has continued to expand with our ever-growing family. Our family is a well traveled bunch, however our hearts remain at Walled Lake Lodge. We hope you enjoy our favorite place in the world as much as we do and look forward to welcoming you soon. -The McIntyres
Owner purchased this Lodge in 1988
Why Owner chose Hillman
Tom McIntyre, a.k.a. Gramps, purchased the property around Walled Lake in 1988. Together with family and friends, a small bunk house was built in 1990 and continued to grow over the next few years into the lodge it is today. Based in Traverse City, Michigan, the McIntyres have always enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, skiing, snowmobiling, swimming, water skiing and much more, and Walled Lake was the perfect, Northern Michigan secluded escape they wanted.
What makes this Lodge unique
Walled Lake Lodge is the perfect spot for large families, groups of friends or family reunions. It truly is a place to slow down, spend time with loved ones, eat, sleep and relax to your hearts content. Walled Lake is surrounded by private property, so guests have full reign of the lake and property around the lodge during their stay. They have access to fishing, hiking/mountain biking trails, wildlife lookouts, snowmobile trails and much, much more. Walled Lake Lodge has to be experienced first hand to truly be appreciated.

Perfect summer spot
This is our 6th year at Walled Lake Lodge - obviously we LOVE it! We can’t go next year as we have a family wedding out of the country ... but hope we can score a week in 2021!
Excellent Fit for our group
This is the second year in a row that we booked the lodge and once again it didn't fail to impress us. Both the owner and caretaker are very hospitable and knowledgeable. I really like this size of the place and all of the great amenities it provides. Thanks again Walled Lake Lodge.
We had the pleasure of staying at Walled Lake Lodge the first week of August. After seeing the photos and reading the description, I felt it was perfect for my family of six and our friends who are a family of 11. Upon entering into the drive and seeing the house, I knew I was right! We were given a thorough tour of the house and property as soon as we arrived. I drove separate from the others and I wish I had recorded the squeals of excitement from the kids when they arrived. It brought tears to my eyes. And this was from seeing the house. They dropped to their knees and hugged with delight when they saw the lake. To say that we want to return is an understatement. We didn’t want to leave! The week we spent was fill s with biking, kayaking, swimming, kickball games, pancake breakfasts, and s’mores nights under the stars. We had everything we could have ever needed there. Plenty of pots and pans, two refeigerators, and upright freezer, large stove and built in griddle, all of which is beyond helpful with a large group. We did venture to Mackinac Island for one day. Otherwise we stayed “home” and didn’t miss a thing. We saw elk, turkeys, coyotes, birds, and two black bears at a distance. None of these animals presented any problems or safety concerns at all. They were a surprise blessing to an already fabulous getaway. Screened in porch, gas grill, back deck facing the lake, dock big enough for lounge chairs that are provided. Everything was wonderful aside from the missing WiFi but who missed it? None of us! Not even the teens. We all reconnected with each other like we had dreamed of doing. Come prepared with food or the willingness to drive a ways for the grocery store. We brought it all with us. If you are reading this review and have a single doubt left in your mind, let me tell you, take the leap and go to Wallwd Lake Lodge. You will have a getaway filled with priceless memories that are difficult to come by these days. Thank you!
Thanks so much for the great review Wendy. So glad you and your group enjoyed your stay!
A twice yearly family experience.
Nothing better than to anticipate getting snowed in while staying at this wonderful lodge. It has been a family destination twice a year for over 25 years either as a summer reunion for a very large family or to spend a cozy long weekend for our annual Sisters Winter Spa long weekend. Accommodations are comfortable and reminiscent of summer camp.
Outstanding and beautiful retreat!
We stayed here with our children, spouses, and a toddler grandchild. The experience far exceeded out expectations! The location is very remote. Be sure to bring everything you need for your visit as you don't want to have to waste your time running errands. There is a stereo with speakers throughout the living space, multiple tables so groups can be playing games or cards in separate areas. Ample refrigerator space. Laundry facilities came in handy for cleaning and drying swim suits and towels. We're looking forward to returning next year.
We stayed at the lodge for three nights in early June 2016. We had eleven adults and one toddler. There was plenty of room for everyone. Gary, the caretaker, gave us a fabulous orientation. We were extremely impressed with how beautiful the lodge was. We had our own private lake which we thoroughly enjoyed - kayaking, canoeing, and swimming. We are all nature lovers and were thrilled to see two eagles, a loon, deer, among other animals. There is ample space between the lodge and the lake to play frisbee, and catch. Nice setting for our campfire. We went on some beautiful hikes (be sure to bring plenty of insect repellant - especially if you are concerned about ticks). We had a great time and have already scheduled a return trip for next year!
Thanks so much for the review and information about your stay. Glad you enjoyed it so much. We love spending time there and it makes us happy to hear that others do too!
