Our ground floor unit is located in the Melia "M" Cluster, and is among the newest and most private buildings in the Maui Kamaole complex. We recently completed an extensive remodel of our condominium, including - new tile floors throughout; new tiled, walk-in showers; new cabinets/vanities in the kitchen and bathrooms; new stainless steel appliances in the kitchen; new, much quieter split air conditioning systems in the living room and bedroom, upgraded lighting throughout, new kitchen and bathroom plumbing hardware, etc.

Our unit boasts a spacious lanai off the living room, as well as a private courtyard in the rear, off the bedroom. Since this unit was among the last constructed, the architect incorporated many improvements in the design of this cluster. Thus, the condo makes better use of the same amount of space compared to the condos constructed in the earlier years.

Our unit has a beautiful garden view. Unlike some other units in the Maui Kamaole complex overlooking South Kihei Road, we do not have the corresponding traffic noise (e.g., trucks rolling down the road or to the small boat harbor at 6 AM). You are also close to the upper pool area, but not so close as to be burdened with any noise. Likewise, you do not have to contend with a noisy parking lot, as some units directly overlook the parking lot.

We are just a short five minute walk to Maui Kamaole III Park and Beach. This beach is one of the best kept secrets on the island. The "Locals" love the park and beach. Each evening you will find them there to watch the sunset with their family and friends. When we're on the island, we make the short walk to the park to watch the sunset, adult beverages in hand.

We are also less than a ten minute walk to Keawakapu Beach, one of the nicest beaches on the island. When we are on the island, we visit Keawakapu almost every day.

Our family visits Maui several times each year to check on the unit and to ensure that the unit is well stocked and in top-working order. Since we live in our unit at least four months per year, we ensure that appliances and gadgets work.

We are aware of many condominiums poorly outfitted - for example, televisions that should have been recycled years ago, one pot for cooking, two coffee cups, five forks, phones that don't work, etc. The list could go on. Some owners never stay in their units and are only interested in maximizing revenue with minimal investment in their unit. This is a classic case of buyer beware when selecting a condo to spend your hard earned vacation dollars and vacation time.

The Living Room Smart HDTV is enabled to play Netflix, Hulu, Pandora and Amazon. Remember, we live in our condo for several months per year. In addition to the big screen HDTV, we provide free, wireless internet access within the condo and free long distance telephone access to the mainland and Canada. We have a full lineup of channels, including premium channels, from the local cable provider. Since Hawaii is two or three hours behind the West Coast, many of those live shows will broadcast several hours earlier than normal on the mainland. We also provide a Blu-ray DVD player if you want to watch your favorite movie.

We recently added a new, plush, pillow-top king size bed in the master bedroom. You will enjoy a great night's sleep.

We comply with the state of Hawaii in collecting and paying taxes. Our GET License and TAT Certificate ID numbers are GE (TA)-214-427-6480-01, respectively. We have posted copies of these documents together with our on-island representative contact information in our condominium and will provide that information to you prior to your arrival.

In the very rare event that a guest has an issue, our contact person will handle any problems. Alternatively, you can contact us by phone, text message or email for a prompt response.

This is a non-smoking condominium. Maui Kamaole is a non-smoking complex. If you are a smoker, you are advised to seek accommodations elsewhere.

About Joe and Linda Gatlin

We both visited Maui for the first time in the mid-60's. Linda had just graduated from UW and Joe was on a Naval Academy midshipman cruise. For each of us, we loved Hawaii at first sight. We met and married 48 years ago when Joe was a graduate student at MIT, while on active duty in the Navy. We have both just retired and spend several months per year at our favorite place on earth, Maui. We are continually upgrading the unit to add more amenities and make their visit more enjoyable.

Why Joe and Linda Gatlin chose South Maui

Maui Kamaole is located in the best part of Maui, in our opinion. The South Kihei/Wailea/Makena area is more easily accessible to the airport than Ka'anapali, has better weather, more and better beaches, multiple championship golf courses, better shopping and is less crowded. We have stayed at resorts all over the islands and love Maui more than the other islands in the Hawaiian chain. When we purchased our unit, we knew that we had picked the best location on Maui. The airport is about 25 minutes away, traveling for the most part on a four-lane highway.

What makes this condo unique

Maui Kamaole has two swimming pools. Our unit is located less than an easy one minute walk to the upper pool. It also has a wonderful sand bottom hot tub. Maui Kamaole recently renovated the lower pool next to the Maui Kamaole office. Both pools have covered areas and grills for those afternoon or evening BBQ's with extended family and friends.

Great shopping is nearby at the Shops of Wailea. Three large grocery stores are no more than a five to ten minute drive. We are just a short five minute walk to Maui Kamaole III Park and Beach. The lawn and associated beach are one of the best kept secrets on the island. Just about every evening we make the short walk across the street to the park to watch the sunset, hoping for the green flash, beverages in hand. Our favorite morning ritual is to walk across the street and then turn south along the beach toward the Mana Kai Resort. We then walk up a gradual hill in Wailea and loop back around to beach and swim on the Keawakapu Beach near the Mana Kai. We buy a cup of coffee in the Mana Kai and sit on a grassy plain overlooking the ocean to watch the whales when in season.

Maui Kamaole is also located within a five minute drive from Mokapu and Ulua Beaches, home of the most exclusive hotels on Maui. If you're a runner this is good run, a little more than a three mile round trip.

  • In 2016 we renovated both bathrooms. We installed new wall tile, floor tile, vanities, mirrors, lighting, shower glass, plumbing, etc., . The guest bathroom, just off the living room, has a walk-in shower with new hardware. In the master bathroom, we removed the tub, which was difficult to maintain and keep clean, and installed a large walk-in shower with a bench and new hardware.

  • King size beds (1) Newer, California King-sized bed with plush top. In 2015, we eliminated the sofa bed that was situated in the living room. We found that the couch housing the sofa bed was not very comfortable to sit on and that it was a challenge to sleep on comfortably. In its place we substituted a very comfortable, reclining couch. So comfortable in fact, that we have guests contacting us after the fact to find out where to purchase a similar couch.

New 55-in. HDTV with expanded cable coverage and high capacity DVR so you can record six, simultaneous programs, many of which show earlier in the day on Maui, Blu-ray DVD Player. Second 36-in HDTV and Blu-Ray DVD player in the Master Bedroom. Don't pack your hair dryer. We have one for you. If you like to read, we have a well stocked library of paperbacks. You can trade books if you want. Maui Kamaole also has a library of books and magazines to trade. Finally, do not bring beach towels. We have plenty for the whole family.

Exceptional Condominium on Maui

The owners completely remodeled this condominium, with a new kitchen, new bathrooms, new flooring, quiet split air conditioners in the living room and the bedroom, etc. They installed beautiful tile flooring throughout the condominium. The living room features comfortable furniture, including a reclining couch. The condominium features big screen HD television with a complete entertainment package, including accounts with Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, Pandora.

The condo is located at the back of the beautiful Maui Kamaole complex, in the Melia cluster. It is super quiet, near the tennis courts and a great BBQ area with plenty of seating. The condo is just a short walk to the upper pool, but we did not get noise from the pool. The condo has a beautiful view from the lanai.

This is a best part of the island to stay, near Wailea and Makena. Kihei is near some of the best beaches on Maui. This part of the island does not experience the bad traffic problems or overcrowding of Ka'anapali. The weather is better on this side of the island, too. It is not as windy in the afternoon.

Absolutely fabulous stay at Joe and Linda's Condo!

The condo is located in beautiful Maui Kamaole condo complex, which has a beautiful lush resort-like feel. There's a pool located 3 mins (walking) from Joe and Linda's condo (if ever you don't want to go to the beach). There is also a great tennis court and BBQ area facing the condo! Really convenient. The condo is located in the Melia building which is tucked away nicely, super private.

Both balcony's were very private - couldn't see anything but lush gardens and mountains. The balcony off of the living room was great to sun bathe as well!

As for the inside of the condo - it was GORGEOUS! So clean, beautifully decorated in a lovely beach theme. The bed was insanely comfy, I believe it has a pillow top mattress!

Both bathrooms were so great as well!

We honestly kept saying how lucky we were to have found such a condo. :)

Location-wise it was also fabulous. We had a rental car which we parked in the allocated space right outside the condo, and we had no problem driving 5 mins to the Kamaole beaches. We loved Charlie Young Beach. It's so close to Wailea area as well, so we went there a couple times.

Best breakfast we had was Kihei Caffé (7 mins drive)

Monkeypod kitchen in Wailea was great!

Coconut Fish cafe was also amazing.

...all this is within 5-15 mins from the condo.

Also! Joe was super responsive. I lost my wallet while in Maui and he was very helpful and understanding.

Thanks Joe and Linda for an amazing stay! We won't hesitate to recommend this condo to friends.

Beautiful renovation and attention to detail!

We had the pleasure of staying in Joe and Linda's condo just a little over one week and enjoyed every minute. We have stayed in places on both sides of the island and without question, this is one of the nicest units we have stayed in. They have done a top to bottom renovation and the attention to detail is amazing.

Joe's customer service was great starting before we even arrived by reaching out to answer any question and continuing through our stay. Everything we could think of was provided for. Our vacations tend to be very low key so I can't comment on the various activities around but the Kam 3 beach across the street is perfect and any food you could want is less than 15 minute drive. We love Eskimo Candy.

Overall we would recommend this condo to anyone and will definitely be back. Thanks again Joe and Linda!

Even Better Than Expected!

My husband and I stayed at Joe and Linda's condo for 7 days to celebrate our 15 year anniversary. I've been hounding my husband to go Hawaii since our honeymoon so let's just say this was a big trip for us. I am not exaggerating when I say we viewed at least 300 HomeAway rentals over 5 weeks before carefully choosing Joe and Linda's condo at Maui Kamaole. It was by far the nicest condo we found for the price. It almost seemed too good to be true. However, upon arrival, we found the condo was just as beautiful as the pictures on the HomeAway site - completely remodeled, redecorated from wall to wall, meticulously clean, and just plain gorgeous! The only surprise to us was that it was bigger than we imagined! Upon arrival, we received an email from Joe welcoming us to the island with tons of travel tips. We informed him we were visiting Lahaina the next day and he quickly responded with information about that area and some restaurant recommendations. We chose "Aloha Mixed Plate" which was superb!

We spent much of our time on Maui traveling around the island but it always felt like coming "home" at the end of the day. Laundry in the unit, 2 air conditioning units which quickly cooled the unit, a convenient grilling "oasis," gourmet appliances, every kitchen gadget imaginable, the most comfortable reclining leather couch, a heavenly pillowtop mattress, fresh herbs on our patio, WiFi, and unlimited HGTV all made our stay very enjoyable. The location was very convenient with grocery stores, coffee, shopping, and gas stations all within a few minute drive. We enjoyed visiting the shopping/hotel strip, but appreciated the peace and quiet of Maui Kamaole at the end of the day.

While the unit does not have a view of the ocean, we spent so much time exploring the island that it was often dark when we returned home. The unit has 2 patio areas, one of which faces a lush garden courtyard and has a fancy retractable awning to help shade from the afternoon sun. It was the perfect place for a relaxed breakfast. We walked the property and found the pools to be exactly as pictured. However, we chose to spend our time at Big Beach, just a few miles south of the condo. Joe and Linda graciously provided backpack beach chairs, a beach umbrella, a beach bag, a cooler, and floatation noodles, which made our trip to the beach very comfortable and relaxing.

We are extremely happy with our choice to rent Joe and Linda's condo. Book this unit now! You won't be disappointed!

It's perfect. Really. Book it now before someone else does!

My wife and I really enjoyed our stay in the condo. It was our home away from home while we stayed on Maui. It has everything you need and even some things you don't realize you need until you get there. The owner is friendly and provides an impeccable customer service. The selection of restaurants, beaches, nearby towns (Wailea, Lahaina, Paia, etc ) and tours are endless. Staying in Kihei, in this condo, will be the best decision you can make for your trip. You will not be disappointed. Kamaole III is the best beach, but go and try others in Wailea and Kaanapali to compare. For your breakfasts go to Kihei Cafe (cash only, atm on site) and try to order everything once. For dinner try 808 Bar and Grill - you won't be disappointed. Take a day and visit Front Street in Lahaina. Take an afternoon and eat lunch in Paia. We also rented a Jeep and found that it allowed us to travel anywhere and everywhere we wanted - rain or shine - without incident. If you want to go to Hana leave super early - like on the road by 8:00am. I would absolutely recommend this property and Kihei to friends and relatives. We're already planning our next trip to Maui and hope book this condo for it.

It was particularly satisfying, as the previous guest had rated our condo four stars out of five, without really explaining what they did not like about our condo. I believe your review of our condo is closer to the mark in describing the location and the quality of our condo. We have been in many, many condos in the Maui Kamaole complex. Not many of those condos provide the quality and attention to detail that ours does. Oh well, I guess you can't please everyone.

Lovely Condo, Comfortable and Cozy with all the special modern conveniences and of home.

We had a wonderful, relaxing stay in the this clean and well equipped condo. The bed was comfy with extra linens, pillows and blankets available. The AC, fans, and other electronics in the the home were well documented and easy to use. We felt that we could contact the owners anytime (as well as a local caretaker) with concerns or questions. We enjoyed the community pool everyday of our stay. Quality.

Owner's Response: Not quite sure what is wrong with the condo to deserve four stars and not five. Tough grader. This is the first four star review that we have received - out of almost forty reviews. We just upgraded the condominium with new kitchen, new bathrooms, new tile floors, etc. Oh well.
