About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6)

The Cappelli House is a renovated and updated vintage home appointed with original mid-century modern furniture and decor. Freshly painted inside and out with refinished fir floors, porcelain and stone tile and new redwood deck. Located 2 blocks off Main Street, this three bedroom two bath home is ideally situated to enjoy all that Murphys has to offer: walk to restaurants, wine tasting, shopping and live music. This little town has been called the 'Carmel of the Foothills' and was named 'One of the top 10 Coolest Small Towns in America' by Frommers. Once the stomping-grounds of the likes of Mark Twain and Brett Harte, today Murphys is a well preserved and welcoming gold rush town with a laid-back atmosphere and modern amenities.

Surrounding areas offer something for everyone. Winter sports fans will enjoy the world-class downhill and cross country skiing at Bear Valley, about an hour drive east on Highway 4 from Murphys. There are several outstanding public golf courses within easy driving distance that will challenge and delight golfing enthusiasts of all skill levels. The Stanislaus National Forest offers year-round recreation opportunities including hiking, backpacking, mountain biking, horseback riding, camping, picnicking, rock climbing, low speed boating, whitewater rafting and kayaking, stream and lake fishing, skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling and more, on over 250,000 acres of spectacular alpine terrain.

Calaveras Big Trees State Park features two magnificent groves of giant sequoia, as well as over six thousand acres of pine forest, campgrounds, picnic areas, and miles of hiking and mountain biking trails. Calaveras County is also blessed with some spectacular caves and caverns, all of which are open to the public and offer a variety of tour options, including Mercer Caverns, Moaning Cavern and California Cavern.

Nearby Lake New Melones provides boating, water and jet skiing opportunities. The more adventurous can try whitewater rafting on the Class IV North Fork Stanislaus River, or flatwater kayaking or canoeing on one of the many beautiful alpine lakes in the Stanislaus National Forest.

For you cyclists, there's no better way to enjoy a day in Murphys than on a bike.

About Belinda Cappelli

Marco and I met in Napa in the wine industry in the late 90's. We moved to the Sierras a few years ago and Marco started making wine for Indian Rock in Murphys. We instantly fell in love with this charming town.

Belinda Cappelli purchased this house in 2010

Why Belinda Cappelli chose Murphys

Marco and I love the history of the Gold Country, enjoy the great wines being produced here and the closeness of a small town community.

What makes this house unique

We enjoy walking and especially appreciate being able to stroll into town for great food and wine!

A great escape

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 5 came for 3 days exploring the gold country. We found the house to be just what we needed. It was a great home base to go off and explore Columbia, Angels Camp and Jamestown. There was plenty of space for all of us. The house has been beautifully decorated and remodeled. We saved money by cooking 3 meals a day in the fully stocked kitchen. It is good walking distance for little feet to downtown. And most important for the mama of the family, the beds were very comfortable and the pillows were soft and squishy (mama HATES overly firm, stiff, crook-in-your-neck pillows!). We enjoyed our stay very much.

The Cappelli House was great. It was a clean, relaxing spot to vacation with family and was easily accessible to town. We had a great weekend.

Loved it

  • 5 of 5

Had quality time with my daughters. Got to play in snow at Bear Valley. My youngest got to hug her trees at Big Tree. Love the shopper in Murphy's. Took the cards you left and have handed all of them out. Watched the blue, blood moon, which was awesome. Will definitely recommend and return again

Great Location

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying here. The decor was fun and 60's funky! The beds were super comfortable memory foam, so that was really nice. The only comment was that there were no towels for the kitchen, except paper towels. Other than that, it was only 1 block to walk to the closest business on main street in Murphys! We hope to stay here again.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the nice review! I'm sorry you didn't find the kitchen towels. They are in the drawer next to the stove.
