Overview

About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6)

The Cappelli House is a renovated and updated vintage home appointed with original mid-century modern furniture and decor. Freshly painted inside and out with refinished fir floors, porcelain and stone tile and new redwood deck. Located 2 blocks off Main Street, this three bedroom two bath home is ideally situated to enjoy all that Murphys has to offer: walk to restaurants, wine tasting, shopping and live music. This little town has been called the 'Carmel of the Foothills' and was named 'One of the top 10 Coolest Small Towns in America' by Frommers. Once the stomping-grounds of the likes of Mark Twain and Brett Harte, today Murphys is a well preserved and welcoming gold rush town with a laid-back atmosphere and modern amenities.

Surrounding areas offer something for everyone. Winter sports fans will enjoy the world-class downhill and cross country skiing at Bear Valley, about an hour drive east on Highway 4 from Murphys. There are several outstanding public golf courses within easy driving distance that will challenge and delight golfing enthusiasts of all skill levels. The Stanislaus National Forest offers year-round recreation opportunities including hiking, backpacking, mountain biking, horseback riding, camping, picnicking, rock climbing, low speed boating, whitewater rafting and kayaking, stream and lake fishing, skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling and more, on over 250,000 acres of spectacular alpine terrain.

Calaveras Big Trees State Park features two magnificent groves of giant sequoia, as well as over six thousand acres of pine forest, campgrounds, picnic areas, and miles of hiking and mountain biking trails. Calaveras County is also blessed with some spectacular caves and caverns, all of which are open to the public and offer a variety of tour options, including Mercer Caverns, Moaning Cavern and California Cavern.

Nearby Lake New Melones provides boating, water and jet skiing opportunities. The more adventurous can try whitewater rafting on the Class IV North Fork Stanislaus River, or flatwater kayaking or canoeing on one of the many beautiful alpine lakes in the Stanislaus National Forest.

For you cyclists, there's no better way to enjoy a day in Murphys than on a bike.

About Belinda Cappelli

Marco and I met in Napa in the wine industry in the late 90's. We moved to the Sierras a few years ago and Marco started making wine for Indian Rock in Murphys. We instantly fell in love with this charming town.

Belinda Cappelli purchased this house in 2010

Why Belinda Cappelli chose Murphys

Marco and I love the history of the Gold Country, enjoy the great wines being produced here and the closeness of a small town community.

What makes this house unique

We enjoy walking and especially appreciate being able to stroll into town for great food and wine!

Clean, simple and well organized. Easy to walk into town, or just enjoy the sun on the back deck. Comfy beds, clean bathrooms and kitchen. We'd definitely stay here again.

Enjoyable, Comfortable & Location

  • 4 of 5

Ideal location to downtown Murphy's and all that it offers. Only a two-minute walk to Jones and Scott Streets. Stop at Gold Country Roasters on the corner for a great cup of coffee. From this point, you can walk the rest of Murphy's to eat, window shop and wine taste. Cottage was well cleaned. Bathrooms are attractively designed and modern. All the bedrooms are roomy and good amount of closet space. There were just two of us. We used the largest bedroom at the front of the house. Lots of sunlight and faces the front yard, which is fenced and gave us privacy. Bed was comfortable. Back deck is spacious and would be enjoyable in the warmer seasons. The patio at the front of the cottage is another nice option. One thing to note is that the kitchen is very limitedly "stocked" with basics. If one plans to cook, expect to find salt, pepper, sugar, coffee, and a few miscellaneous items, perhaps left by previous guests. Belinda quickly responded to a lighting need, which housekeeping serviced the next day. We would definitely stay at Belinda's cottage on our next visit to Murphy's. Luckily, only a two-hour drive from our East Bay home.

We come here often. Adorable house. Very comfy.

I need my Murphys fix sometimes. We only stay in other houses if the Cappelli House is booked and we have an exact date we need. We have learned to try to book it early because it is very popular.

Best place to explore Murphys!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time staying at this house in July 2017. The location is perfect - the shops and wine tasting of Murphys is a few minutes walk, supermarket is also in walking distance and it is a short drive to caves, rivers and Big Trees National Park. The house is beautifully decorated in 1950s style (we especially liked the paintings) and has everything you need for your stay. We were with 2 adults and 2 kids and had plenty of space.

We had a wonderful time and recommend this house to everyone who wants to visit the area!
