About The Owner

We moved to Carmel in 1964 and never turned back. We love our home in this special place we call Paradise. We brought up our four daughters here and moved to the Highlands twenty-five years ago to enjoy the magnificent ocean views and serenity. My husband is a writer and I'm a Coach for families of children with special educational needs. We enjoy the arts and fine dining found within minutes of our home. We walk daily in our neighborhood and are always inspired by the natural surroundings of the beautiful Carmel Highlands. Our daughters and some of our grandchildren live nearby. They stayed in this small, quaint, artistic community to enjoy the friendly ambiance and the many outdoor activities the Central Coast offers. One of our daughters and her husband have a sailboat, where they enjoy day sailing and whale watching on the Monterey Bay. From every visitor's perspective, our little corner of the world beckons vacationers to return again and again.

The Owner purchased this cottage in 1985

Stunning Carmel Retreat

  • 5 of 5

Before we booked we read lots of reviews. They all sounded similar. You only need to read a few because based on our experience they were all right! This property and our gracious host lived up to everything you read. The details, gift basket, views, knowledge of the area, hikes, beaches, restaurants...Judy is spot on!

I would encourage you to take her advice. Definitely visit the Monterey Aquarium and Point Lobos. You don't get those opportunities everywhere you go, especially for free with the passes she provides for you. Her list of "local favorites" restaurants was a big help and a big hit. There is so much this area has to offer but we found it hard to leave in the mornings and we loved getting back in time to enjoy the sunsets.

Trust these reviews. You won't regret it. Thanks again Judy!

As if a cottage from the South of France was dropped in Carmel Highlands

  • 5 of 5

You know, like Dorothy’s house in The Wizard of Oz.

As nice as the photos make this place look, it’s even better. It’s cozy, homey, and wonderfully appointed, both in its décor and the many little things you might need that are right at your fingertips. The views are dazzling – my wife fell in love with the view of the ocean from the kitchen window and deck downstairs, while I thought the towering pyramid of windows that offer a sweeping ocean view from bed upstairs went pretty well with morning coffee. High thread count sheets and big fluffy bath towels? Oh, yes.

Judy thought of everything. A welcoming basket of goodies on the dining table stood at the ready as she told us of all her favorite scenic hikes nearby. We hadn’t even planned on nature hiking, but that’s mostly what we did, thanks to her recommendations. Included was a parking pass for the spectacular Point Lobos State Natural Reserve, and passes for the Monterey Bay Aquarium (which, without those passes, is a little on the spendy side). Also a thorough list of restaurant recommendations, which we paid close attention to.

As it turned out, though, we didn’t go to nearly as many restaurants as we thought we would. We couldn’t wait to get back to this wonderful cottage in time for sunset! So -- we ended up finding nice spots for lunch, and cooking dinners at home, watching the sun go down through that delightful kitchen window.

Loved our time in The Highlands!

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at Point of View could not have been better! Judy is an outstanding hostess and has thought of everything. It was so nice to have her there to greet us and to show us around the property. Her welcome basket was above and beyond what was expected! Passes to Point Lobos as well as to Monterey Aquarium were icing on the cake! We were in Carmel for four nights. We took time for the Movie Tour out of Monterey, stopping at Pebble Beach for bout 45 min and doing the 17 mile scenic drive. We ate twice at From Scratch in Carmel Valley; their breakfast is outstanding! The farmers market in Carmel Valley looks amazing if Tuesday morning is early in your stay. Our walks were, no doubt our highlight to the trip! Be sure to take time for walking the Scenic Walk starting in Carmel By The Sea, (you'll see amazing homes on one side and the ocean on the other), also the walk starting just behind the little red preschool on Highway 1 just west of entrance to Point Lobos (the locals walk this route), and of course DO NOT MISS the trails along the Pacific in the magnificent Point Lobos State Reserve!

Carmel By The Sea is fun and quaint and full of people! There is opportunity for great eating and shopping, but was so nice at the end of a busy day to retreat to the highlands away from the crowds to our private cottage with both mountain and ocean views! Book with Judy at Point of View, you will be glad you did! (driving time from Carmel to the highlands was 5-7 min.)

It was the perfect weekend getaway

  • 5 of 5

This place is amazing. Judy is a great host. She gave us passes to the Monterey Aquarium and pass for Point Lobos. There was water, milk and even some wine ready for us. The Point Lobos pass was perfect as we could skip long lines and go straight in. The house has amazing views, fully equipped kitchen and all amenities. We didn't have to think of anything. While in the house, we could do bird watching with binoculars Judy provided. On our last day she even texted and let us know we can check out anytime as there was no one else coming that day. What a wonderful gesture.

We are definitely going back to this amazing place

Our month-long stay in this home was amazing!

  • 5 of 5

We left the Texas heat for one month to enjoy the beautiful Carmel weather. We were so fortunate to find this charming retreat in the Carmel Highlands with a great deck, barbecue pit, plenty of seating and a wonderful view! There is even a blue jay that will eat from your hand!

The house itself has beautiful windows which allowed us to enjoy the fresh, cool breezes every day - a luxury not able to be experienced during the Texas summer. The kitchen was well equipped for cooking, which we did a lot; and Judy left a wonderful basket of goodies on the table for our arrival, along with freshly cut flowers in the house from her amazing garden.

The bedroom was upstairs, and it was huge! The mattress, pillows and bedding were so very comfortable that we didn't miss our bed at home at all! We had visitors twice who slept on the pull-out sofa bed, and they all slept very well too.

The location of the home is perfect - just minutes from Point Lobos (for hiking), the Highlands Inn (for music and dancing, or if you want a great view for lunch or dinner), and the town of Carmel. There are so many great places to eat nearby. From Scratch in the Barnyard had great breakfasts, and Rio Grille was a favorite of ours for dinner - half-priced bottles of wine on Monday nights, and the best artichokes we had on our trip. We also loved going to the Cypress Inn for music. Don't miss the Farmer's Market at the Barnyard that is open during the summer on Tuesdays.

A month's stay just wasn't long enough for us! Thank you, Judy, for opening your home up for us to enjoy such a relaxing and fun summer vacation. It far exceeded our expectations!

An Absolute Charm!

  • 5 of 5

So glad we chose this charming, beautiful and comfortable cottage to stay at! My husband and I and our son and daughter were so impressed with the place as soon as we approached the property. The gardens surrounding the property were beautiful. The ocean view was gorgeous, which included a whale sighting on our very first evening! The location of the cottage was so convenient to so many attractions like Carmel, Monterey, Pacific Grove, Pebble Beach, state parks and Big Sur. Judy was a fantastic host in every way! She left us a generous gift basket with everything from a bottle of wine to, much appreciated passes to the Monterey Aquarium and Pt. Lobos State Park. Judy was also very helpful with recommending great places to eat. Our four day stay went by way too fast! We hope to revisit "Point of View" in the near future!!
