About this property

This cozy cottage is a short walk to Herbster beach! Easy access to TRAILS!

Welcome to Lenawee Getaway Cottage, this newly constructed home was completed the summer of 2023.

Nestled in the woods of Bayfield County, Lenawee Getaway has an open floor plan with a vaulted ceiling, windows facing every direction, and is the perfect place to relax and reconnect with family, friends, and nature. There is plenty of storage built in for storing all your gear, kitchen items, helmets, and anything you bring on your adventure.

Lenawee Getaway has a modern kitchen with gas range & oven, refrigerator with filtered water & ice, dish washer, microwave, coffee maker, blender, and an additional beverage refrigerator for extra storage. The large bar height center island with seating for six is the perfect place to gather with friends and family while you enjoy a meal, play games, or solve the world’s problems. A smaller bistro table and chairs is also provided for additional dining space.

The two bedrooms are both furnished with comfortable plush top queen-sized beds and large lighted closets for your belongings, additional storage is available under the beds. Wall mounted fans are installed in both bedrooms for your comfort.

The bathroom has an accessible, zero threshold, shower with a handheld shower and a wall mounted shower head, a ceiling vent with heater, comfort height toilet, and a large farmhouse sink.

A roomy screen porch attached to the kitchen allows you to enjoy being "in the woods" without the bugs. The screen porch features dimmable lights, a ceiling fan, comfortable lounging furniture, and a bar top that seats four people with a pass-through window to the kitchen sink. You can read a book, observe wildlife, eat your meals, play games, or take an afternoon nap in the gentle breeze from Lake Superior. Outside the screen porch there is a gravel patio, a gas grill, and a fire ring with a grill grate for open fire cooking. On the front porch, overlooking a grassy field with wildflowers, you can sit in the afternoon sun or look up at the Milky Way when the stars come out.

A short walk down the road will get you to the Herbster Beach where a mile of sandy beach awaits you. This beach is one of three beautiful beaches, within 7 miles of each other, that give you access to the refreshing waters of Lake Superior.

The South Shore area offers many wonderful restaurants, fun bars, and entertainment with small town flair. If you are looking for adventure hiking, biking, swimming, kayaking, sailing, snowshoeing, skiing (water/XC/downhill), hunting, fishing, or trapping you will be sure to find whatever kind of adventure you’re searching for, or you may even find something new! There are many hiking trails in the area including the Apostle Island National Lake Shore, Chequamegon National Forest, and Valhalla Recreation Area to name a few. If you are looking for waterfalls, you’ll find Twin Falls in Port Wing and both Siskiwit Falls and Lost Creek Falls in Cornucopia, both towns are 7 miles from Lenawee Getaway. If you enjoy a little faster pace, we have hundreds of miles of ATV and Snowmobile Trails that can be accessed right out the front door. Charter a fishing trip on Lake Superior or find a fishing hole on one of several Class 1 Trout streams nearby. Hunting areas for both small and large game can be found across every county in northern Wisconsin.

Bayfield County is home to several farm-to-table style restaurants, one being Herbster’s own Cranberry Over Superior. Elsie Blue General Store & Timberrr Bar is within walking distance. Both are in downtown Herbster. Many other restaurant choices are available in any direction.

Herbster is located approximately –
1 hour East of Duluth, MN
30 minutes West of Bayfield, WI
25 minutes North of Iron River, WI.

If you enjoy the outdoors, this is the place for you. “We’re not the end of the earth, but you can see it from here”!

One more thing "RELAX YOU'RE IN HERBSTER!"

We made the decision to move to this area over 25/years ago. Found jobs that allowed us to actually live here. We typically had to commute 30+ miles (one-way) for our jobs.
In the earlier years, Jen worked several jobs in town. This made it easier to raise our two boys.
We have always been active community members.
Herbster is a beautiful little gem that has a unique draw compared to anywhere else we've been.

Why they chose this property

We like to say we're in the "1st String Suburb" of downtown Herbster, WI. We are within walking distance of so many town amenities. The Historic Log Gymnasium is open to the public 24/7, and is a great place to spend an inclement day. The Annual Smelt (Fish) Fry and, Corn and Brat Fest are both held at the "Gym" hosted by the Herbster Community Club.
You will find lots of unique things at either of the shops along the little boardwalk.
Of course one of the main reason "WE ALL" come to the South Shore is the one and only - LAKE SUPERIOR!! The beach is so awesome, you can spend the whole day, and into the evening there. There is a playground, which has a pavilion (can be reserved by contacting the Town of Clover Clerk).
All of these things, and many more are reasons why we LOVE and WORK where we LIVE! We know you'll enjoy it too.

What makes this property unique

We live 100/yds from the cottage, which is convenient if guests have immediate needs.
We own 10/acres, and have a 3,000 sq. ft. working greenhouse that helps extend our growing season several months of the year. We also have (currently)15/layer hens that we tend to.
There are multiple sugar maples scattered thru-out our property. In the Spring we like to pass the time during "mud season" by tapping them for sap and making our own syrup.
In the Winter (when there's snow), we make trails in our field for cross country skiing or snowshoeing. You can also access snowmobile/ATV trails from our property.
