The Duluth cabin was very nice. Loved the rap around deck. The beds were very comfortable.

The kitchen was well stocked with everything. The furniture very comfortable to sit on. I want it for my own!

Decent home, Difficult owner

  • 2 of 5

Although the home was decent, we had a difficult time with the owner.

On the second night of our stay a dog without a collar or tags showed up at the home around 5. It never left the deck area. I didn't feel comfortable having my dog or my kids (4 & 6) play outside with a dog that didn't have a collar or tags. I called Michael to see if he could identify the dog. He wasn't sure whose dog it was and suggested we "throw some sticks at it" to get it to leave. I said we had tried to consult animal control but they were closed and their message said to call 911 if needed. After 8, I called 911 because we wanted the dog to be safe.

The next day we saw a sign posted for the lost dog and I called the owner immediately. The owner texted me that he got the dog and would get a collar.

That day the downstairs toilet wasn't flushing. After lunch we noticed there was sewage on the basement floor next to the washer and dryer and into a storeroom. I called Michael immediately. He said he would get a plumber over and to leave a key outside so the plumber could get in.

Late that afternoon I texted Michael to check the progress. He said the plumber had cleared the sewer line from outside and said it must have been clogged by the previous renters. I inquired about the sewage inside and Michael said he "wished I would have told him earlier." I responded that I had told him "there is poop on the floor." He said he would give us a "$50 rebate for our troubles." (At this time, he has given our deposit back but no rebate.) We hadn't been at the house all afternoon and had wanted to go back to have dinner and get our kids relaxed for bed. Michael said that he could call a cleaner and they would put down bleach. At this point, 6:30pm, we told him this just wasn't realistic for us to stay. We wanted to enjoy family time and having a stranger in the basement moving around the washer and dryer to clean and putting bleach fumes in the air near our kids' beds just doesn't sound like vacation. Michael was upset and said "you can't please everyone."

Later that evening he texted me that a neighbor told him the dog followed us back from a walk. Michael failed to ask questions to clarify the situation before telling me in the message that he was "appalled at my behavior." If he had asked, he would have learned that we never even took a walk. My 73 year old dad has bad hips.

If you rent here, beware.

Owner's Response: My wife and I have been renting vacation rentals for over 10 years and take pride in providing a comfortable and tranquil environment and strive for exceptional communication. Sara was two weeks late to make payment and then began making demands the moment they arrived. It was quite obvious they were trying to find any flaw possible rather than having a good time and enjoy the peace and solitude of their environment. The first night they called the sheriff on a neighbors dog that followed them home after taking their dog for a walk. My neighbor contacted me about how impolite and disrespectful they were to him in regards to his small dog. The second day they clogged the toilet which overflowed a floor drain. They contacted me and I had to pay a plumber an emergency rate to clear the line. The plumber said they had put something in the toilet that should have gone in the trash. Once that was completed, Sara had a new problem, she said shower water had come out of the floor drain initially when I spoke to her but now claimed it was sewer water. I immediately had my maintenance man go to the house to clean the grey water with bleach. Once this was complete, she called and said she could not stay at the cabin because of the back-up. Sara is the most inconsiderate rudest renter we have ever hosted. Every problem they encountered they caused. I would advise future renters to read our 60+ positive responses before basing their opinion on this impudent renters negative response.

A Nice place to stay

  • 3 of 5

We stayed here for a girl's weekend and it fit the bill. Plenty of space for sleeping and a well stocked kitchen to do your own cooking. We would like to try again during a warmer season as not able to enjoy the outdoors as much.

Nice cottage in a lovely area!

  • 4 of 5

The cottage is charming and very spacious! We had more than enough room for our group. The cottage is located a few miles NW of Duluth but that is one of its perks- the rustic setting and ambience. Commuting into Duluth was quick and easy. The wildlife, mainly deer, were daily visitors. We would stay here again.
