Cozy, beautiful home in ideal family neighborhood

  • 4 of 5

The University Garden Suite was a wonderful home base for my family and I, especially since we have an energetic and curious toddler who likes to roam and play. We were happy to find that the suite's warmly decorated interiors matched the images posted online, and the rooms were all clean with fresh towels and linens. The cupboards were well stocked with the basic kitchen equipment we needed (e.g., plates, mugs, wine glasses), and the full size [shared] refrigerator and washer/dryer were super helpful. What we liked best about the property though was the beautiful backyard. The zen garden and its relaxing patio seating and firepit helped us make the most of our evenings in -- particularly since we have a 7pm sleeper. We loved the garden; however, we had to watch where we were stepping the first couple of days because the dogs seemed to have marked it all as their territory. That being said, the dogs were friendly and cute, not a bother otherwise.

The location was great for us, because we were attending a wedding at the Center for Urban Horticulture. We were able to walk to and from the venue (without having to go up or down a hill)! Several delicious restaurants were within a 10 minute drive.

One thing to note about this property is that if you stay, you should build in some time before checkout for tidying up. We are typically very neat during checkout, even at hotels -- but at this home, you will need to do some cleaning (e.g., strip beds, take out trash, sweep floors). It's like staying at your relative's house... but you don't have to deal with any family drama!

Owner's Response: Sadly we've lost our Jack Russell Terrier, Jupiter a few weeks ago. He lived for 15.5 years and was a wonderful friend for us. Unfortunately, during Olivia's stay there were some times when we were just not able to clean up fast enough! Especially with a toddler on the run. We value our guests convenience and sensibilities. We are committed to health and cleanliness, and we do our best to keep our yard accessible and tidy in spite of sharing it with a well-loved and gentle pet.

Very cozy.

Very inviting and comfortable. Beds are great. Could use a sink in the kitchen area. Parking is tricky.

Exactly like the photos!

  • 4 of 5

My friend and I wanted a girls week vacation and this home was wonderful. The suite was immaculate, the furniture very comfortable and the host was most accommodating and generous. The home is beautiful and located close to all that Seattle has to offer.

If someone asked me if there were anything I would change, it would have to be the slate stone pathway from the driveway down the side of the house. We came in late at night with heavy luggage (we are girls! :) ) and trying to carry instead of being able to pull the luggage in an unfamiliar area that is not too wide and with not so much lighting made it tough. I would consider a solid path versus stepping stones to make it easier to manage luggage.

That is the reason why I gave a four star review instead of a five.

Wonderful, family-friendly trip!

  • 5 of 5

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at this truly lovely home! We were traveling with our 3 year-old twin toddlers, and were a bit stressed about finding a conveniently located place to stay while my hubby was in meetings for 2 days at UW. This was the best possible home for our visit. The house is close enough that my hubby could walk to his meetings, allowing me to keep the car to explore with our girls. It is beautifully furnished, with very comfortable beds and nice quality sheets and towels. The neighborhood is beautiful, there is a great park a few minutes away, and lots of shopping/restaurant options just a few minutes away. The garden in the house is truly a zen experience, and was a wonderful view to wake up to each morning. Our girls loved Jupiter, who is a sweet dog, and the yard gave them a little bit of space and us a lot of privacy. We will definitely be staying here if we have to come back in the future!
