This creek is ALWAYS full!
A complete remodel of the kitchen and dining room made this 1930's bungalow a real treat for vacationers! Granite counter tops and stainless appliances attest to the quality of the home, while the fantastic old double hung windows and cedar plank walls of the living room and bedrooms retain the original woodsy craftsman feel.
Numerous windows and the Deck look out on the spectacular spring creek tumbling at the base of a 2 Giant Sequoias, Huge Cedars and Massive Pines. Flowering Dogwood trees, Trilliums, and wild blackberry and raspberry and wild flowers grace the creeks edge. It's a very clean spring creek that bubbles out of the ground a few miles upstream that never varies its flow much, winter or summer.
Relaxing in this home may turn out to be your favorite part of the vacation!

Ah! The sound of the creek!
The whole family had a wonderful time here! Michael is a wonderful host as well! We had a little bit of snow on the ground and the kids had a blast with it! Our dog's favorite part was cozying up to the fire. We did a hike up a forest service road each day that we could walk to from the cabin. The sound of the creek was so soothing. The surprise hit that no one had planned was the PIANO!
Thanks again Michael!
Rustic cabin with backside appeal
Our extended family of 10 rented Michael's cabin for a 2-night stay.
This cabin is not well suited for a group of 10. There is one bed too few and we found no additional sleeping accommodations, although we learned after our stay that Michael would have provided an additional mattress, had we asked. There is also only seating for 8 at the table and seating for 6 in the living room (the only seating area in the home). So, stick with the recommended 8 guests if choosing to rent this cabin.
The entry to the cabin is just off the main road and not especially surrounded by attractiveness. The back outdoors of the cabin is the most appealing aspect of the cabin with the beautiful creek and trees. The cabin itself is old, as stated in the description but meets the basic needs and wants of a rustic stay. There is no exploring to do on foot around the cabin but there is water play during the warm seasons and fishing. The fire pit is great and there is an outdoor deck, but we were unable to use it during our winter stay.
Here's a breakdown of the main rooms.
Living Room (main gathering area): This room contains the large wood stove, which is amazing and heats the entire home, if the fire is kept stoked. The room is on the small side but contains a love seat ensemble and a recliner, which seats about 6 comfortably. The addition of a piano in this space is loud and probably not the best use of space. The love seat ensemble should be replaced soon, as it has lost its structure.
Kitchen: The kitchen has seating for 8. The stoneware, cups, and eating utensils are adequate. The cooking tools and knives are barely adequate and dull. Bring your own vegetable peeler and sharp knives if planning to prepare meals.
Bathrooms: The only bathrooms (2) are both in the downstairs bedrooms. This makes for awkwardness and inconvenience. This was one of the negative features of the home, but Michael clearly states this in the description of the home and in emails that follow after reservation confirmation. A single family wouldn't find this an issue. Multiple families will likely find this uncomfortable.
Beds: The 4 beds sleep up to 8 guests. 3 of the 4 beds were reported to be comfortable. The downstairs, front bedroom bed made for a rough night's sleep and an achy back, and maybe needs to be replaced.
Lastly, we had unwelcome guests, flying ants! In our bedrooms, beds, & in the bathroom, eek!
This is a perfect example of when a guest talks me in to accepting their large group not suited for this home. 80 some 5 star reviews and now this...
Rather than simply ask for an additional mattress, she leaves a comment on a review and lets her family be uncomfortable 3 days. We messaged several times during their stay, yet no request.
There are 8 formal dining chairs and a bench for 2. The knives are Hinkle. I guess I need to upgrade the potatoe peeler? Really? She reviewed my potato peeler?
Its true, some flying ants set up shop in a electrical plug box. One squirt with Raid and it was over. But they didnt let me in or accept the help.
As over 80 reviews will tell you, this is a fun house to stay at with the right group. I have to turn down countless requests to stay from groups that dont fit.
I love my guests and this is my living. I really like this family too! If you have a big group, I just bought a nice big 5 bedroom really comfortable home 2 miles away. If you need something, ask. I'd do anything to make your stay great.
Beautiful, relaxing, stress-free week
Thanks Michael for a wonderful stay! He was easy to communicate with and our week-long stay was perfect. We will definitely consider coming back in the future.
Beautiful Cabin, Great Location
9 of us spent three nights in Shingletown at this cabin. The cabin backed onto a beautiful creek. There were many hours spent watching the creek from the patio and sitting at the bank.
Bedroom situation is a little unusual but if everyone is family, it works out well.
We had a problem with the washing machine but Michael was quick to respond and took care of our laundry.
Beds were sublime, kitchen was well stocked and the family room was comfortable and well furnished. Highly recommended location and owner.
Very cute streamside getaway
Perfect getaway for my wife 2dogs and I sitting out on the deck or by the fire a great peaceful place to relax.
I guess you do this long enough, you get a surprising review. His comments were nice but he was disappointed the washing machine died the day he checked in. Believe me, nobody is sadder than me the thousand dollar washer quit! lol. I work them to death! It's replaced.
What a hideaway
We had an amazing week at the cabin. Used is as a base to explore the area and Lassen NP, then played in the creek every afternoon with our lab. I was amazed at how much water was flowing late in September. Enjoyed going to sleep each night listening to the creek. The house has everything you need from BBQ to dish TV. Well equipped kitchen and plenty of room. Michael was a great host....great to meet him on the first day.
