Location, Location, Location BUT....

  • 4 of 5

Artisan House is a wonderful home & perfect for a group. You can't beat the location if your goal is to explore the Russian River & Sonoma Coast.

The quaint town of Guerneville is 15-20 minute drive (depending on traffic). It's here where you can stop & load up on food & beverage supplies (via local Safeway grocery store or farmer's market), enjoy a night out on Main Street (Boon, Eat Drink; Main Street Bistro & Piano Bar) or sample great micro brews at Stumptown Brewery. Within a 5 min.-walk from property, guests can enjoy Monte Rio Public Beach and Monte Rio Cafe. All of these establishments are dog-friendly

Speaking of our K9 friends, our party had a total of 3 dogs. It's great that the property owners don't charge an additional pet fee. A standard cleaning fee is added onto your rate. If you bring pets, please be responsible pet owners & pick-up after your furry friends. The added cost value is passed down to future guests.

The design of the main house is perfect for entertaining. There is a large kitchen, located in the center of the home that has ample prep/counter space to use. There's an 8 person dinning table that can accommodate an additional 4 people. Lots of natural light throughout the home. Guests can enjoy the view of the trees & garden. The outdoor deck also has a large dining area which comes with an umbrella for guests to enjoy a bit of shade while eating al fresco. Other amenities like the gas BBQ & hot tub made the outdoor space all the more useable.

The Granny Unit (adjacent to the house) also has plenty of natural light. Having a full kitchen unit also helps when cooking meals that require more than 4 burners (ie both stoves in the main & granny units can be used at the same time). If you are staying for a long period of time there is lots of closet space in each bedroom. There is no a/c in the home, however, fans were provided to help stay cool.

This is a perfect vacation home for two or more families. BUT...

Like other reviewers have stated, property maintenance is lacking. The deck, deck chairs, and table need a bit of TLC (just resanding and restaining); the two side doors that open onto the deck couldn't be open as it is broken per note from the property manager; the bed in the granny unit (bedroom 1) needs to be replaced. I felt the springs on my side of the mattress.

If I were to book the home again, I would say yes, because the space is a special gem.

Nice house poorly maintained.

  • 2 of 5

This has the potential to be a very good vacation rental. Unfortunately it has had extensive remodeling done very amateurishly. And it has been poorly maintained. We rented the whole house which was convenient but the bathroom in the extra space was in very poor shape. This time of year, early November is cold and the heating is potable electric heaters. A huge wood stove would have been more than adequate but without kindling it took us an hour to get it going, and I heated with wood so I'm not an armature fire builder. One would expect a top notch facility for the price we paid but the lack of care was evident throughout. The pictures and description belies the reality of a beautiful house in a state of decline. I can't really recommend this house unless extensive work were done on it to bring it up to the quality it deserves and its occupants have paid for.

Artisan House in Monte Rio CA has seen better days

  • 2 of 5

My friends and I stayed at this property several years ago and had a great time. The main house and granny unit were clean and well appointed.

Unfortunately the property has not been maintained well in the years since and is really showing its age and lack of upkeep.

There were ants everywhere, including in the refrigerators, beds, and bathrooms.

The living room furniture was stained and some of the upholstery was torn.

Many of the windows and doors did not have proper seals and did not close properly so it was drafty.

The oven/range in the main house was not connected to the electrical system so was non-functional.

The oven in the granny unit didn't have a rack in it, so we had to borrow one from the main house oven (glad it fit!)

One of the deck lounge chairs collapsed underneath one of our guests (of average size) and he was dumped onto the deck; upon further inspection it was clear the wood was rotted from having been left out in the rain; glad he wasn't hurt.

We called management immediately upon entering the property about the ants; they promised to send someone out within an hour to clean up the problem. A young woman did arrive in about 45 minutes, but spent less than 30 minutes at the property, and left with trails of ants still everywhere; she didn't even get all of them out of the refrigerators and didn't set out any ant traps, either. We spend the rest of our weekend wiping up ants constantly so we could actually use the kitchen.

We called again the next day about the main house range/oven, and they did send out a nice handyman to help; he jerry-rigged an extension cord from the oven to the main outlets, so that worked out ok.

Overall we were very disappointed with the condition of the house. It was obviously not rental ready. I would not recommend anyone staying there until the property has been cleaned thoroughly and repairs made.

Witches Weekend

  • 5 of 5

We are a group of teachers, SLP, principal and a retired administrator plus three spouses that return to the Russian River every during Halloween time. This year someone suggested booking a house and we rented the Artisan House. It turned out to be a wonderful experience and we enjoyed ourselves just being in the house. Great time, great place and great experience.

Adults, pets, and kids all love the Artisan House!

  • 5 of 5

OMG! My family and I have stayed at the Artisan House a few times and it is spacious, beautiful, and relaxing. The giant deck is a great place to get some sun, read a book, take a tub, or flip a burger. A friend recently got married and we put the parents and kids in the Granny unit so everyone else could sleep in. Worked out great! The enormous yard is a favorite for the pets as well as the kids. The Artisan House has plenty of space for a large group, it is conveniently located in charming Monte Rio, and it is a short walk to the river. Don't miss out on the Artisan House!

Great for a group getaway

  • 4 of 5

A group of friends (12 adults; two infants; one dog) recently rented the Artisan House property. It's a really amazing house with all the amenities of home in a spectacular setting. If you're looking for a great location to hold a family reunion, birthday party, or other gathering on the Lower Russian River, this is the place to do it!
