Quiet secluded off-grid living
We “upgraded” from the Dolphin Cottage to the Mango House. The most secluded cottage on the property, it was wonderfully quiet and surrounded by beautiful tropical foliage. Essentially a studio, with a full kitchen and bath, it was just the right amount of space for the 2 of us. It was lovely to be greeted by a tray of fresh fruits (apple bananas, papayas, and a pineapple).
This is off-grid living. No microwave, coffee maker, or laundry (or a line to hang wet towels & swimsuits). Showering is an adventure; the scalding-hot water lasts for about 12 seconds, then just cold.
I wish Brad had been clearer about charging devices (DON’T!). When I inadvertently left my iPad plugged in for a couple hours, he claimed I “fried” the house batteries. Turns out I just depleted them (my bad), but a rather tense situation resulted, and could have been avoided.
The “hiking trail” adjacent to the property is a lava flow (very difficult to walk on) that leads to a rocky shoreline 2 miles down a steep hill.
A lovely cottage in a beautiful setting, as long as you know what to expect.
Loved the privacy, and it was in a great location- remote. Perfect for the adventurous. Brad was super helpful in finding great beaches and fun things to do, and we appreciated the nice touches of fresh fruit and coffee. Was nervous about the geckos in the house but they are super cute and keep the house bug free! And it was really cool watching them eat bugs. The property looks like a mini set of Jurassic Park, lush and green with exotic plants and animals running about. We would come back in a heartbeat.
Glamping at it's best!
Great value for one of a kind experience! The cabins are rustic but clean. I liked the outdoor kitchen and the indoor bathroom. The bed was comfy... we did have one stormy night were the coqui frogs were very loud and with the windows only screened I needed earplugs to get some sleep. The other nights the frogs were not as bad and had quite a comfortable sleep with all the fresh air. Brad was attentive to our needs and helpful with advice on things to do in the area. Mahalo!
Wonderful true Hawaiian experience!
We had the most amazing time at the South Kona Coffee Estate! You will love this place! Our cottage was in the middle of a beautiful jungle farm with the view of the ocean in the distance. Surrounded by bananas, cofffee trees, macadamia nut trees, avocado trees and beautiful smelling flowers, our senses were on overload! The windows were open air screens that gave you the feeling of being one with nature, and the night sounds of the frogs and occasional rain showers on the metal roof created the most romantic environment ever! The cottage was immaculate, and rustic in a perfect way. Rainbows and gorgeous sunsets were an every day occurrence. We wished we never had to leave, and are looking forward to going back!
Peaceful, Quiet, Wonderful
We stayed in the Mango house. Its away from the highway, so very quiet. Its entirely solar, but plenty for charging phones, etc. Comfortable bed ! Kitchen is adequate. Lots of birds! Fresh fruit for the picking along with macadamia nuts!
Brad, the owner was great. We would stay there again in a heartbeat!
Authentic tropical Paradise. Fruit for days!
Tropical oasis. Comfortable and clean open-air cottage with all the fresh fruit we could ever want. Brad is a very accommodating and helpful host. He even set us up with a stellar massage therapist who came to the estate. Things are perfectly simple and off the beaten path. We look forward to returning.
The perfect launching point for the many adventures the Big Island offers..
