Custom built English Tudor style home located on a 400 acre ranch. This secluded ranch borders Cal Poly State University property and is situated 2.3 miles from Highway 1 on a part paved/ part all-weather gravel road. The house has 4 bedrooms and 3 baths and sleeps 8-10 with a king, 3 queens and 2 twin beds. It has hardwood floors and granite counter tops. The kitchen is fully equipped and has an adjoining sitting area where guests can relax on a couch, enjoy the expansive view and chat with the chef while he or she prepares meals. The living room, with its mahogany paneling, leather couches and piano arrayed before a magnificent fireplace, is reminiscent of a British gentleman's club or hunting lodge. Outside, the patio and garden have ample seating with both a wood-burning Santa Maria style bbq and conventional propane grill for your outdoor cooking experience. During the wet months, the outdoor fire pit is ideal for roasting hotdogs, marshmellos or just sitting around the fire under the stars.
Mike Kirschner, one of the owners' sons, lives in the stable building located approximately 100 yards downhill from the main house and is available to answer questions or help guests with any problems that may arise during their stay.
Guests are encouraged to bring their hiking boots and binoculars. The ranch is surrounded by rural Cal Poly property with its extensive system of dirt roads on which one can literally bike or hike for miles. For a more adventuresome and secluded experience, guests are welcome to explore the ranch itself which is home to deer, turkeys, coyotes, raptors and other native animals and birds. Those energetic enough to hike to the top of the ridge above the house will be treated to a spectacular view of Cal Poly and San Luis Obispo in the valley below and the Pacific Ocean ten miles distant.
Whether you are visiting this area to sample its world-famous wines and restaurants, to explore its pristine coastline or simply to relax and unwind, you'll be glad you selected the Stenner Creek ranch as your home away from home during your stay.

About Chuck Kirschner
Our family has lived in San Luis Obispo since the mid- 1950's and we purchased this ranch in the early 1970's. After retiring from his medical practice, our father built his dream house on the ranch and moved there to raise British White Park Cattle. We have decided to offer the property as a vacation rental because of its unique character and ideal location near the City of SLO.
Chuck Kirschner purchased this Chateau / Country House in 1970
What makes this Chateau / Country House unique
The single most striking aspect of the property is the serenity one experiences while there. The only sounds you're likely to hear are the wind in the oak trees, cawing crows, squawking bluejays, the occasional scream of a hunting red-tail hawk , maybe a coyote in the evening and the distant sound of a train as it makes its way up or down Cuesta Grade. The outside world feels very far away even though, in reality, the City of SLO is just a short five minute drive away.

A Slice of Paradise
Our visit could not have been better. The house is spectacular, the view unbelievable, the early morning air and late night fires, the hammocks, the frogs singing and the wild turkeys talking, all simply enchanting.
Our children are grown. We picked up our son in SoCal and drove up to SLO, where we met up with our daughter and her boyfriend (a first class chef!-) who live in San Francisco and drove down to meet us at the Stenner Ranch for five nights.
We had the perfect time - a couple of day trips to the beach and Morro Bay, Novo creekside downtown.
But the best part was hanging out together at "The Chateau."
And eating Loren's food!
Thanks for sharing, Chuck!

Wow! First of all, Chuck was great to work with in booking this rental! The house was idyllic! We kept saying how it reminded us of Kate Winslet's house from The Holiday (except much larger). Plenty of space for all 10 of us, we were able to enjoy the nice large fireplace in the living room, such a treat. Great kitchen to cook in, had all the cookware you need! The real reason for coming here are the views! Everywhere you turn you feel like you are in the hills of The Sound of Music! Not too far from town, but you definitely feel in a remote location.
Perfect for a mid-week business retreat/annual strategic planning session
Very nice property and plenty of room for our entire group to spread out, and to get outside and enjoy the wonderful natural setting as well. A couple individuals would rather have had their own private room instead of sharing with another member of our executive group, but that's the only reason for 4 stars instead of 5.
Amazing location, very comfortable home!
Our extended family loved the ranch, what an amazing location! We enjoyed the house, especially the grand fireplace, and were quite comfortable - but the star is the location and views. Hike in any direction from the house for views of the surrounding canyons and hills and enjoy the silence! Plenty large enough for our group of 5 kids and 4 adults.
Wonderful home secluded behind Cal Poly SLO
The Stenner Creek Home is a beautiful home off the beaten path behind the campus of Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. We celebrated out daughters graduation with family. The back yard is a great venue for grilling, roasting marsh mellows, and fellowship. Less than 10 minutes to downtown SLO. If you enjoy quiet, luxurious accommodations that include watching deer and wild Turkeys, this place is for you.
All agreed it was the best Thanksgiving ever! The home itself is beautiful and inviting. We truly felt at home. The surrounding grounds were so inviting with fires in the evenings and sunrise coming up over the breathtaking mountains. The quiet after living in the city is something to behold in itself. We all would highly recommend this home.
