Oceanfront Home, Steps to Beach, Sleeps max 13, 4bd, daily maid, linens, gated
Welcome to our home, CASA COSTA PALMERA, steps away from the Pacific Ocean on the wonderful sands of Playa Grande, Costa Rica. Nestled in the coconut palm trees, built on the sands of the beach, Casa Costa Palmera (sleeps 13) is a vacation home that will leave you breathless. Travel + Leisure Magazine rated Playa Grande in the top 30 as one of the best beaches on earth. Casa Costa Palmera just so happens to be exactly 40 paces away from where the picture were taken for the magazine. Swim and surf right outside the house. NO volcanic rock obstructions which limit water activities at other nearby beaches. We are located in Playa Grande 200 meters north of the Hotel Las Tortugas.
Costa Palmera has one of the best beachfront views on the entire coast. Whether you are coming to the gorgeous Central American country of Costa Rica for a great adventure or to get away from it all, we can accommodate you. The amazing hand crafted woodwork and the beautiful white granite counter tops inside this 4 bedroom beach home will truly make you feel like you are on a vacation for the memories. Our home has a privately built-in swimming pool with swim-up stools and BBQ area. Excellent maid service is included daily. We provide linens and beach/bath towels. Cooking is available at an additional cost. Theo, a private masseuse can be hired and massages performed on the premises.
Unlike many vacation properties, Costa Palmera is open and airy, doused with a contemporary touch in the interior of the home. This 4-bedroom beach house has furnishings in every room, along with air conditioning in all rooms. The kitchen and dining room face out towards the ocean leaving for an alluring view of the Pacific Ocean and magnificent sunsets at dusk. The house is equipped with wifi, making it possible for one to accomplish their daily tasks at work while basking in the sun and enjoying their tropical get away.
Also known as Las Baulas National Marine Park, Playa Grande is a sanctuary for the leatherback turtles whom every year return to the shoreline to lay their eggs. Because the beachfront is nationally protected, it is one of the cleanest beaches in the country. The shoreline is also relatively flat, making for a great place to take your shoes off and go for an evening walk after dinner. Whether you’re on a honeymoon or a surprise birthday vacation, Costa Palmera is fully equipped.
Known for its consistent world-class surf, Playa Grande is a surfer’s paradise. The winds are frequently off shore making for well-shaped waves and great surf. Unlike many prestigious surf breaks, the flat, sand-bottomed beach of Playa Grande makes it possible for surfers of all skill levels to have a great time. Surf lessons are just a phone call away right out in front of the villa.
There are a few boogie boards at the house.
The things to do are left to the imagination to explore, including golfing, horseback riding, rain forest excursions, volcano tours, ATVing, fishing, sailing, and much more.
With Playa Flamingo to the north and the quaint beach town of Tamarindo a few miles to the south, Playa Grande is at the epicenter of Guanacaste. Tamarindo has great nightlife on weekends and is a great place to have a lively evening with friends and family. There are a few family owned restaurants near Costa Palmera, along with a fully equipped surf shop to rent surf boards and/or purchase apparel and many other items.

About Christine Allen
Traveled to Costa Rica in June 2003. I was impressed by the many different adventures in various diverse regions of the country. I decided to purchase in Playa Grande because I find this to be one of the most peaceful and beautiful spots in the world.
Christine Allen purchased this House in 2005
Why Christine Allen chose Playa Grande Estates
This property offers a comfortable, relaxing, private home, beachfront location. I love all the natural wood in the house, the sounds of native birds and the smell and sound of the salty ocean. All beaches in Costa Rica are public. Playa Grande offers a serene vacation environment off the tourist beach scene. We are one of only a few dozen homes located beachfront within the national park.
What makes this House unique
Private gates, indigenous woods used throughout the home, pool. Our staff, Maria and Orlando have been with us since owned and they are terrific. Shawna, our property manager will take care of our clients needs from airport pickups to and from the house, car rental, stocking the refrigerator with food and beverages before arrival, scheduling excursions, restaurant reservations, massages as well as surf lessons in front of the house and more. Contact Shawna for any needs or concerns and she will promptly respond. Memorable vacation experiences at the house has led many of our clients to return yearly knowing the staff, home and relaxation will be waiting for them. Perfect for family reunions, girls and guys getaways, honeymoon, wedding, executive retreats, surfing vacations, etc. All ages will enjoy.

Wonderful location - excellent service
We got married here, and had our 10 year anniversary here with our kids. We obviously love it, the location is incredible, right on the beach with a beautiful grove of palm trees out front. It's a huge house with on site housekeeper and security. We spent a ton of time in the pool and in the ocean. We will return!
This was an awesome experience!! Go!
Casa Costa Palmera was the absolutely perfect place for us to spend a week with our family including our three young grandchildren. On the very first day my husband looked at me and said, “I don’t think I have ever been this relaxed so early in a vacation”. We immediately felt comfortable and at home. It is in a beautiful location that was very easy to get to. The home is so special. It is very well-maintained and has a very comfortable layout. It is a very warm and welcoming home just steps from a beautiful beach and ocean. Every morning when I walked into the living room I was overcome by the beauty of the beach and ocean when looking out of all of the windows in the living room. At night we would retire to our lovely bedrooms each with their own private bathroom.
During the week we enjoyed several excursions which were planned with the expertise of Shawna, the house manager. We went on a catamaran/snorkeling trip, a fishing trip, and some scuba diving. All were very enjoyable and lots of fun. There were far more restaurants in the neighborhood than I anticipated and we enjoyed several. It was also much easier to get to Tamarindo than I thought it would be. The road is paved almost all of the way and it felt like a quick 20 minute trip to get there, but to be honest, I wasn’t keeping track of time all week.
All of us enjoyed an amazing massage on the beach, under the shade of a tree, with the ocean breeze blowing. Shawna suggested Theo and she was incredible.
It was so nice to have a fresh water pool. We enjoyed that almost every day, especially my two year old granddaughter. Both of my grandsons had a blast boogie boarding and playing in the surf. Five minutes from the house we found an awesome surf shop and rented boards for the boys. They had a great time learning to surf and the water was perfect for them. I was surprised how amazingly warm the ocean was!
We also greatly appreciated the housekeeper, Maria. She is very sweet and took great care of us all week along with Orlando the outside caretaker.
This was my first time to Casa Costa Palmera and I have promised myself it will not be the last. I have been talking to my husband about making plans to go every other year. I can’t wait to be back there!
PROPERTY NOT AS DESCRIBED
WE FOUND THE PROPERTY NOT AS DESCRIBED. THE PROPERTY IS VERY RUN DOWN. THERE IS NOT A GUEST WASHER/DRYER. THE WASHER/DRYER IS FOR THE MAID SERVICE ONLY. THERE IS NOT TUB IN THE MASTER BATHROOM. THE HOME IS VERY DARK AND LACKING LIGHT FIXTURES THAT HAVE LIGHT BULBS OR WORK. THE PROPERTY ADVERTISED 2 BIKES THAT WERE NO WHERE TO BE FOUND. THE REMOTE CONTROLS THAT OPERATE THE AIR CONDITIONING DID NOT WORK. THE BATTERIES WERE WORN DOWN. WE HAD TO TAKE BATTRIES OUT OF OUR ELECTRONIC DEVICES TO OPERATE THEM. THERE IS NO CABLE/SATALLITE TV. THERE ARE 2 TV'S ON THE PROPERTY AND ONLY ONE OF THEM WAS WORKING. TOILETS AND SHOWERS BACKED UP WHEN USED. THE POOL FILTRATION SYSTEM DID NOT WORK. THE ADVERTISED HOT TUB JETS DID NOT WORK.
IF THE OWNERS WOULD SPEND A FEW DOLLARS AND FIX UP THE PROPERTY IT WOULD BE VERY NICE.
WE WERE VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH OUR STAY.
Nice property on the beach
Pros:on the beach. Cons:on the beach. The house is located next to a public parking area for the beach so there is a lot of foot traffic and setting up camp near the house. We had some problems with people thinking the lounge chairs and hammocks were public. The house comes with staff who live on property. Orlando was our security staff 6p-6a. He also helped with people who would walk into property thru a gate that said private!
Maria was our maid and cook. We hired herfor breakfasts which were great.
She did laundry as washer and dryer were not accessible to guests.
Rooms were spacious and liked having ensure setup. Had some initial problems with getting hot water for showers. The plumbing could use an update in showers. Beds were all comfortable.
Linen was exchanged 2 x during week. Towels were every other day and we had to ask for face and hand towels.
Pool is small and no sun on it so it was only used for a quick dip. Too cold. Hot tub is not heated.
Nice restaurants in the area. Rip Jack is very close.
Would I recommend:yes.
Pura Vida Paradise
This was our first visit to Playa Grande after vacationing in the Nosara region for the past six years. My husband wanted a house right on the beach and Casa Costa Palmera definitely delivered! After reading the fabulous reviews, I booked two weeks via Shawna Mullen, the property manager. She was fantastic through the whole process, answering any questions promptly, setting up our transportation, arranging massages with Teo, meals with Maria, to greeting us at the house when we arrived.
The house is GORGEOUS and kept immaculate thanks to Maria. Everyone had their own spacious bedroom and private bathroom. A huge plus!
The beach is a national park, very pristine. Loved taking early morning walks and watching the local fishermen reel in their catch. It is a surfing beach so those with young children will have to be aware of the large waves and powerful surf during certain times of the day. That being said, there were many local families with children who enjoyed the beach daily. We all loved boogie boarding in the surf (boards provided). FUN! The rangers make sure everyone is off the beach around 7 pm because it is a nesting ground for turtles. I'm not sure if this is year round or just the time frame we were there. Wasn't a problem if you are respectful of the rangers and stay on the beach right in front of the property's fence.
Security: Orlando and Harold took great care of us during our stay. It was reassuring knowing they were on watch throughout the night with Orlando's two friendly dogs on guard for added security. It was if the dogs knew they were there to look over us. *The Costa Rican people are some of the warmest and kindest people we have ever met. However, like anywhere in the world, there can always be "bad apples'. We always feel safe in Costa Rica but this was an added bonus having security as part of the package. The area is quiet, residential and safe.
Favorite restaurants in walking distance: Hotel Las Tortugas-loved Irene the waitress, the sashimi, black bean soup and mojitos! Rip Jack's Inn, Kike's Place (great local food!) & El Huerto for pizza. Frijole's Locos Surf shop delivered our surf boards and corn hole game. Ask for Omar.
Get a massage by Teo! We all agreed BEST EVER!
Maria: The sweetest! Just wonderful! The meals she prepared were OUTSTANDING. Top notch housekeeper as well. We were sure to show our appreciation ($$) for all staff at the end of our stay.
Made new friendships and sweet memories. Thank you
Tom and Dana,
Thank you for taking the time to write the review. So appreciative of your kind
words about the house and our staff. We hope you return and stay with us
again. Costa Rica is an amazing country filled with adventure, natural beauty
and some of the friendliest people in the world.

Beautiful home in spectacular location
It would be very hard to beat the location of this beautiful home. You look right out onto the beach. With several restaurants within walking distance.
The bogey boarding is fantastic right in front of the home. Watching sunsets every day from in front of the house was amazing and memorable.
The care takers kept the house clean and the place guarded at all times.
We will go back, hopefully soon.
Phil and Joanne
As owners of Casa Costa Palmera we are so pleased to hear you want to come back down and stay at our house. Thanks for letting us know how much you enjoyed your stay and how well our staff took care of you. It’s very important that all of us.
Jim, Chris, and Sue
Nature lover's delight. Located in the Las Baulas National Park famous for the nesting grounds of the giant leatherback turtles (Oct - March), nearby canopy tours, kayaking in the estuary, snorkel, diving and hiking, step out the back door onto our world famous surfing beach and relax and enjoy.
*NOTE - Due to environmental and ecological restrictions within the park, interior and exterior
lighting must meet stringent codes. Specific colored lighting can only be used on the exterior and any lights in the house must be kept dimmed
so as to not affect the nesting patterns of the turtles.
