Uniquely located with no roads to cross or vegetation to block your view. Imagine surfing directly off the backyard, scanning the trees for howler monkeys, sea shelling along the beach or gazing at the stars. From the privacy of this beachfront home take delight swinging in a hammock, indulging in a spa treatment, sipping from a freshly opened coconut or simply smiling at a sunset. It's barefoot luxury!
A key advantage of being in Playa Grande is it's small but lively neighborhood community, yet only 20 minutes from the high paced and partying tourist town of Playa Tamarindo. There are a variety of 12 restaurants, a few surf shops, spa services, yoga classes, horseback riding, turtle tours, and bike/surfboard/SUP rentals are all within walking distance. For all this, PG is the perfect laid-back beach location.

Why julie gordon chose Playa Grande Estates
We are a family of 'water babies' born and raised on the beach shores of Santa Barbara, CA. (Of course the grand kids also have this ocean gene). Once my children (Julie, J.C, and Mark) became of an age when we could all travel my husband and I would take them during summer vacation on a surf safari to an exotic destination somewhere in the world. This was not only for fun, but to spend quality time with each other as well as to expose and educate them about different cultures and customs. On a surfing safari to Costa Rica in '91 we instantly fell in love with the country, the kind and hospitable people, and the natural habitat. It was a paradise!! Long story short after returning to the States and raving to family and friends about this oasis a friend said he had the perfect property for our family in Playa Grande. My husband flew down a month later and purchased the property for me as my 50th B-Day present! Over the past 17 years both my family and friends lives have been significantly enhanced by the beauty of the 'Tico' people, the natural wonders that surrounds us and the 'Pura Vida' lifestyle. This means Pure Life, an expression of contentment, happiness, and satisfaction with ones life. It's this philosophy that ranks Costa Rica as one of the happiest places in the world!! We invite you along with your family and friends to visit and enjoy the surf, sand, sun, & experience the 'Pura Vida' life.
What makes this Villa unique
Playa Grande is a magical beach, for thousands of years the prehistoric leatherback turtles have come to nest and the ancient Chortega Indians performed ceremonies. Immersed in the peacefulness of the surrounding beauty, the' pura vida' life is easily attained.

The house was very comfortable; the maintenance staff were very helpful. The location could not have been better - beautiful, uncrowded beach and wonderful sunsets. There we 11 of us for a family gathering and we were all very comfortably accommodated.
The perfect view meets the perfect beach house!
Ive been staying at Villa Olivia for 18 yrs coaching surfing with clients I bring down every season and the house is perfect for beach lovers and surfers. The staff is absolutely amazing and work very hard to see guest are happy and taken care of without getting in your way. There is a reason I choose Villa Olivia every year and one word that first comes to mind is Outstanding! I highly recommend Villa Olivia to anyone who loves the beach, surfing, amazing sunsets, relaxing and solitude that this is the house for you! Frank Caronna/Natural Surf technique
Amazing location, property needs a lot of work
It's hard to be critical of a property in the middle of paradise. The location alone is beyond 5 stars. But, if we had known the following, we would not have rented this property:
All rooms are accessible via outside entrances- with the exception of a small room off the family room and none of them are connected to one another. This makes sense for groups of adults but does not make sense if you like for your young children to be close to you.
The pool is the size of a large hot tub
The "countryside view" studio is in bad shape. It has potential if a)it was cleaned properly b) it didn't consist of the world's oldest, mustiest futons and decrepit day bed c) the "view" consisted of something other than a side yard littered with debris and junk d)the torn, stained sheets were replaced.
The house was swept one time while we were there. No sheets or towels were ever changed which was problematic since the washer and dryer are not accessible to the guests (have to pay to have someone else mix your whites with your darks)
The kitchen needs a major update-stove and dishwasher barely work, dishes and silverware are all chipped and old, pots and pans are old and worn and stacked in a jumbled mess under the counter. We found black mold growing on the inside of the water cooler spout.
With a few renovations and updates, this house could truly be amazing.
Hi Kim, thank you for your feedback and helping us improve future renters stay. With our beach house photos in combination with property description we aim to explain the villa layout and amenities. We are reviewing them for improvements and understand the studio would be better described as having a countryside view from the deck.
Room cleaning is offered every third day, with daily service available for an additional fee. The linens are also changed at this time. Each guest is provided with the telephone number of our property manager to provide assistance immediately when notified of any concerns arising.
Our apologies on the stove, it was to be installed but pieces were missing and on back order. In July, I inventoried and replaced the majority of cooking ware , serving ware and dishes. The manager has been contacted to asses these kitchen concerns.
We take reviews very seriously and address all feedback, for the majority of our vacation rental calendar is booked by returning guests. We take pride and strive to make this a memorable experience in which to return to.
Wonderful vacation with large group
We had a large group that rented both Villa Olivia and Casa Mirage for 6 nights and we all had the most wonderful time! The location is perfect, steps away from the gorgeous beach and very close to Taco Star which everyone loved! The sunsets are out of this world and watching them as you sip cocktails on the terrace/in a hammock can’t be beat. The houses them selves were very clean and had everything you could possibly need for entertaining/cooking/lounging. Everyone in my group said they had the best vacation of their lives here and can’t wait to return!
Everything we hoped for and more
The home was absolutely beautiful. Located in the perfect spot for our get away. We traveled with a group of 7 and there was plenty of room!! The beach is absolutely beautiful and we were even blessed with a momma sea turtle nesting right out our back door only steps from the grass. And hotel tortuga has the best food in town. Just a short walk from the house. We will.definatly be back!!
Gorgeous House and Beach!
Stayed her with my husband, kids and extended family. We had in total 9 adults and 3 kids (under the age of 7) and fit very comfortably in the house. The location on the beach is amazing and love the the tranquility of it! Beautiful views! If you are looking for a beautiful place to relax, please rent this home it's perfect. A lady from the surf shop came by and rented us boogie boards for the kids for $7 a day and offered surf lessons. They had a blast! If you want night life, Tamarindo is just a 20 min drive away. Great time and would definitely do it again!
