Mount Horeb is home to this country house. Mt. Horeb Area Museum and Driftless Historium & Mount Horeb Area Historical Society are cultural highlights, and some of the area's activities can be experienced at Norsk Golf Club and Swissland Miniature Golf. Howard Himsel Park and Waltz Park are also worth visiting.
Get away from life's stressors by indulging in your own private sauna suite. King-size bed, rudimentary kitchen, bathroom, japanese soaking tub (for cold soak), AND a wood-fired sauna, you're sure to find relaxation. Without tech distractions you'll enjoy your stay with board games, reading, napping, strolling the property of our organic farm. 10 mins from Mount Horeb w/ cute, local shops and restaurants as well as several state/county parks. Perfect blend of rural escape + nearby conveniences! The space A cozy, private sauna suite with king-size bed, dining area, kichenette, half bath, Japanese soaking tub, and wood-fired SAUNA. The Japanese soaking tub is a little challenging to get into and out of with fairly steep steps, so please use the hand rails and use caution! *please note the tub is for a cold soak not a hot soak
This straw-clay "cabin" is sort of set up like a studio with an open floor plan. It's ideal for couples looking to get away and stoke the fire of their relationship, but if three close freinds want an affordable escape, there is plenty of room!
We recently bought this farm (November 2021) and this building was already here. It was originally built for a prior owner to practice her massage therapy business out of. It is timber frame construction with straw-clay insulation and natural material walls. It was built to be environmentally-friendly!
This is a "rustic" stay. There is no air conditioning, wifi is hit or miss out here, it does not have a full kitchen or full "traditional" bathroom (but does have all the features of a full bathroom). It's also extremely charming and cozy. We welcome you to use the wood-fired sauna and soaking tub to relax. *Please read the woodstove manual before operating and starting a fire!*
We have one middle-aged friendly, free-roaming dog and one dog-like cat. Guest access When guests arrive, they can pull up near our house (red siding with white trim) to unload anything they need out of their car. This is the closest walk from parking spot to sauna house. They will follow a small foot path next to our house, around the side of the sauna house to the front step.
Once they finish unloading, they can park their car by our big barn. To get there, they will loop around our driveway and take a hard right to follow the access road to the barn. The parking spot is off the the right, just to the north of the barn. A wooden fence marks the spot.
Guests will walk the grassy path through some pine trees back to the sauna house. Other things to note We run a small, organic farm. Depending on what time of year you visit, we will have our fields in production growing an assortment of produce, chickens for meat and eggs, pigs helping us work our fields, and cows helping us mow. Guests are welcome to walk our property (it is fenced all the way around) and look at our fields. Animals will mostly be fenced with electricity, so keep your hands to yourselves! If you bring a dog, please keep them leashed at all times.
If you have any interest in jumping in and seeing what a day on the farm is like, we would be happy to accommodate you as best we can. Please send us a message including this detail!
Our prices include all fees. No hidden fees.

Very cute, quiet. The sauna is amazing, easy to use. Most everything we needed for cooking/doing dishes. Bed was comfy, a bit tall for short people though. Scenery is beautiful. Will definitely go back.

Disliked: Cleanliness, location, listing accuracy
No parking or signage. Gravel/mud roads that teeter into gullies and ravines to help your car into a ditch. No clear walkway to property. Large black snake laid in front of the door entry. Cleaning people forgot to clean the unit; wet bacteria filled towels, unmade bed, empty beer bottles. I'll stop here.
We loved our stay at the straw sauna house!! So relaxing and exactly what we needed. We enjoyed stoking the fire and cooking a cozy meal. What a peaceful place. We will definitely be back!
The Straw Clay Sauna House was a beautiful and scenic place to visit. The wood burning sauna and Japanese cooling tub were excellent features of this house. My girlfriend and I took hike during sunset on the trails on the farm which highly enjoyable.
This was such a unique place and we loved the experience and peacefulness of the property. I would suggest some kind of pavers or rock on the walkway just because it was very wet and muddy and we weren't prepared with boots or appropriate shoes. Also would suggest a mirror, otherwise everything was comfy and we really enjoyed the sauna and wood fire! Thank you!
Very quiet, very rustic. Place was clean although towels could be replaced. We enjoyed the space overall. I would recommend a couple outdoor chairs to be able to sit out and have my morning coffee or watch the stars at night.
We had a great time. We enjoyed the cabin. It’s definitely remote and felt nice to unplug. We did come with the intent of playing games and the two dining chairs were not in the best shape. It wasn’t the most comfortable to play in. It was really nice to get away from the hustle and bustle of life at home. If we were in the area again we would look at staying here again.
We will most certainly be returning. The location was beautiful and the property managers were very friendly and kind. The house, itself, is very comfortable and private and we enjoyed exploring the property in our free time. Plus, how can you beat a built in sauna?!
The sauna house was a great relaxing stay. Communication was great, if the weather was different, we would have been able to reach out to the host a little more, but we were only there for a short weekend getaway. Would definitely come back for a cold weather getaway. Love the property and the area.
Less than 24 hours of getaway in this sunny little house was enough time to relax, make good use of the sauna, and enjoy the quiet of a farm in a little wooded valley.
Lovely, quiet, close enough to stuff to do but far enough to get some peace.
Loved everything about the property and the surrounding areas. With minimal effort could get to Mt. Horeb, Madison, and Middleton and had plenty to do when I didn't just feel like relaxing in the cabin.
