House, 2 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4-5)
MIsty and John are both Rolfers and Louisiana Natives with a deep love of the Crescent City.
John purchased this House in 2003
Why John chose Mid-City District
We have lived in several neighborhoods in the city before having the good fortune to move onto Bayou St. John and the City Park. We are minutes from all the city's nightlife but in the morning we can have coffee on the balcony and watch the pelicans fish.
What makes this House unique
Relatively quiet streets and gorgeous, peaceful surroundings right on the water, Mid-City is exactly what it's name implies, the middle of the city. From here you are 15 to 20 minutes from any neighborhood in the city.

The process of checking into the property was great!!! John was a great host being very friendly and informative of how to get around the city. Like most properties in NOLA the property was older, but it was well kept. We were in NOLA for Essence Festival & getting back into the property at night was a hassle at the beginning due to lack of understanding on the keypad. But, after a couple of tries we finally got it down. There were also small details that should be addressed, such as the sleeping quarters on the property were very warm due to poor ventilation, but it did cool off the second day. The A/C should run the day before guest arrival if arriving in the summer. The upstairs tub needed a little more attention and a few of the fixtures were broken. But, there were no big issues that would prevent me from returning for a future stay.
Lack of security and privacy
The unit was as described in the pics, well stocked and clean. Excellent location, however, the problems were with security and privacy. None of the interior doors had lock protections, ( interior deadbolts, chains ) the front door only has exterior key code entry and the master bedroom access to the enclosed balcony did not even have a lock. This balcony is shared with the owner, we put some heavy furniture in front of it so we could sleep. As far as privacy the master bathroom only has half a curtain over the window allowing the neighbors a good view. The doors leaving the kitchen area needs blinds or curtains while it is nice to see the back yard and flowers didn't care for watching John shirtless and sweating heavily doing yard work while trying to entertain guest or cook breakfast. Would have posted sooner but was waiting to get our cleaning deposit back before posting, it took well over a week to get our deposit back.
After 8 years of 4 and 5 star reviews, we are shocked by your statement. Upon your arrival, I asked that you tell us if there was anything we could do to improve your stay. Problems can usually be quickly resolved.
Let me address the issues that you now raise.
1. Door locks: Both the front and back doors have deadbolts. As for the master bedroom lock, we did not realize it was broken. It is to a screened balcony which is inaccessible from the street. It has now been replaced. Had you brought this to our attention, we would have immediately replaced it while you were here.
2. The second floor master bathroom window faces a wall. Someone would have to stand on a 20 foot ladder to see in. Had you let us know you were uncomfortable with the curtain, we would have gladly brought in a new one.
3. For privacy, the glass door in the kitchen is tinted glass. You can only see out of the door from inside the kitchen. From the yard, no one can see in.
4. The timeliness of the deposit return is not in our control. It is handled by vrbo.
This 2-story charming well-stocked home was the perfect location for our family gathering. The main floor had a great layout and was nicely furnished: kitchen, dining room, living room, bathroom, as well as outdoor space in the back yard and on the front porch. Upstairs was perfect, with our son and daughter-in-law in the front bedroom and our granddaughter in her porta-crib in their large walk-in closet, and we grandparents in the back bedroom. The upstairs bathroom was convenient for everyone. The second floor screened-in porch with its bayou view was fun for occasional meals and relaxation too.
We enjoyed walking from our great home-base, hopping on nearby trolleys and buses, or exploring with our rental car, which always had easy parking on the property.
We arrived to a welcome bottle of champagne to celebrate another son's graduation. John was quick to respond to any questions, both before and during our stay, had an informative welcome booklet, and was very flexible about a late check-out time since no one was coming that day.
We really enjoyed staying in this home and will be back in the future!

Sweet house. Perfect location. Amazing sunsets every day.
Great NOLA location away from the madness
We had a short but great stay. Property was more than we expected and was perfect for the 5 of us. Wish we could have stayed longer. Would definitely stay here again. It was nice to take the street car downtown then leave it all behind for the night.
The owners were extremely nice & the house had all the feel of home. The neighborhood was great, right across the park from the New Orleans Art Museum and walking distance to the trolly. Highly recommend this rental
