A tranquil spot!

  • 5 of 5

If you are looking for privacy, beauty and tranquility, this is your cottage. We have loved our stay here and so has our dog. The house is perfect with everything that you need to have a wonderful stay. The view of the bay is unsurpassed. We have really enjoyed sitting on the screen porch, talking, reading and just relishing the bay breezes. I highly recommend this cottage to anyone looking for a private get away.

Needs some TLC

  • 2 of 5

The bay front access was wonderful! Fishing was great! The house however, was in need of repair. When we arrived and began putting groceries on the counters, there were ants everywhere. This continued all week. That evening while putting shampoo and soap into the shower, I stepped into the shower and water oozed up out of the tiles. Then later while showering, a white milky substance was pooling around my feet. I think someone had attempted to repair the missing grout with something that obviously wasn't water proof. It continued to come out all week. My husband killed a roach in the bathroom and I killed a smaller bug of some kind as well. The vent fan in the bathroom was so nasty that it hardly even worked so my husband took it down and cleaned it. No vent hood over stove nor a light. The kitchen faucet was loose and wiggled everytime you used it. Just overall needs some work done and better upkeep.

Owner's Response: We always appreciate feedback on how we can make our house better. The historic Little House by the Bay is over 100 years old, so it is always needing and getting TLC! We take all issues seriously, spare no expense, and quickly fix things that need fixing as they come up. 1. Pest Control - The house is on a monthly extermination visit program by a reputable pest control firm. I have made our pest control contractor aware of the issues our renter points out, and instructed him to do what it takes to assure me I am getting the best service available. I regret when any renter has to deal with insects in any one of our vacation rental houses. While I am not making excuses, my experience from living in the area my entire life is that a line of those tiny 'sugar ants' (at least that's what we call them) can appear out of the blue near the sink (particularly if water or unwashed dishes are left in the sink) and that is why we keep a can of roach and ant spray under the sink in all three of my Fort Morgan Rentals (also VRBO 239639 & 476092). Palmetto bugs (large cock roaches) thrive in our area and live outside (and the house bordering a national wildlife refuge). Now and then, strong rains will drive one or more into the house. Usually when I find one, it is dead, which tell me my pest control is working. 2. The shower floor was replaced the week after this renter left. We had a long summer rental season without any breaks, and it takes 3 or 4 days to put in a shower floor to give it time to dry & cure. In the mean time, temporary repairs were made to the one loose tile just b4 arrival. The milky water was most likely a bit of grout residue. 3. The kitchen faucet has been tightened up. The plumber said it was fully functional for this renters visit, just loose. 4. Our family cleans the house. We respectfully take issue with the described "nastiness" of the bathroom vent fan. 5. The renter is correct... there is no hood over the stove (never has been). However, there is a lamp right by the stove, with a directional spot light head, to provide light while cooking. As our website elaborates, this is a very old (100 years) bay front cottage almost completely surrounded by a national wildlife refuge habitat. We spare no expense to keep it in top shape, and we are proud of it! In fact, Hurricane Nate destroyed the pier a few weeks ago, and a contractor has already been hired to rebuild. We guarantee that all issues have been addressed.

I liked the house very much. Quiet yet close enough to the beaches. We fished off the dock and caught a few smaller fish. The family also loved it. Liked the lay out of the house..nice airconditioning and the screened porch was great.
