'Wastin' Away' is a cabin that has been remodeled with modern conveniences. It is a small house, with two bedrooms and 1 bath, but has a large living area. It is close to the beautiful Gulf beaches, offering guests real value in their visit to the beach.
'Wastin' Away' is fully furnished- all you need to bring is your food and clothing for a fun time at our un-crowded, beautiful white sand beaches which is located less than 100 yards.
For those interested in bay or gulf fishing, a public boat launch on the Fort Morgan historic site, approximately 2 miles away, offers quick access to both Mobile Bay and the Gulf of Mexico.

Pets are allowed on our beaches as is alcohol, plus you don't have to remove beach equipment every evening.

What a nice place for a quick get away! I’ve had a goal for my senior dog to get to play in the ocean for a few years now. It’s been challenging because there are not many dog friendly beaches -and even then- it’s hard to find a homeowner who will allow a large breed dog. Even pet friendly rentals usually have a weight limit. Our senior age golden retriever really had the time of his life playing in the waves. The cost was affordable - something we could finally afford on our budget and still bring our dog. Next time I’ll buy some groceries on the way in. That will save lots more money. The restaurants there are great, but would’ve been smart to pack a picnic box for the beach. It’s a 2/3 minute walk on flat pavement until your feet hit the sand. The neighborhood is quiet and feels like where the “grown ups” go to vacation. No loud music or partying. People are respectful and quiet. I appreciated that. Not too crowded at the beach itself- you could “find your spot” and enjoy the area without feeling crowded. I didn’t realize until the day we left, homeowner has a closet under the house with a wagon, beach chairs, extra bbq grill, styrofoam ice chest, crab pot and a few beach toys. Next time I’ll bring groceries, a beach umbrella, charcoal/lighter fluid and plan to stay longer. It was a great getaway trip and my big old dog says “thank you!”.

Ft. Morgan

I rarely leave reviews but this property is definitely a mixed bag. Easy walk to beach, well stocked kitchen. No internet, which as we had a guest from the UK and international data plans are so expensive, this was more than just a small inconvenience. The property owners are also over the top with communication. As in I didn’t respond through the VRBO app within 30 seconds and I was getting texts. Within a minute, I started getting phone calls and she kept calling until I answered-maybe the 4th/5th time? Then when I questioned the lengthy check out process (sweep/mop floors, wash sheets and have back on bed, clean the bathroom) as I had paid for the cleaning service which I feel should cover mopping, she called 15 times in a matter of minutes while we were trying to enjoy the beach. The excessive nature of the property owners more than make this property not worth it. I’m on vacation-call once, leave a message and I will return calls when I’m not trying to spend time with my family. The only time we had peace was after I blocked the number (25 calls/close to as many texts) and I also feel VRBO should do a better job at protecting customer information and force contact through their app. We have been taking beach vacations for 20 years and have never had a stay quite like this one.

Everything is exactly as described. it has everything you need, nothing you don't. Clean and quiet location, short walk to the beach. This was my first time here, but it will definitely not be my last!

Beach vacation

Had a good time surf fishing. Just a short walk to the beach where we were able to enjoy walks with our dog. Owner was very prompt to reply to any questions.

2024 Fort Morgan trip

We had a very pleasant trip. There were ants in the house, but not enough to bother any of us, did not appear furniture had been moved and cleaned under and behind; quite a build up of dust. It was great to be so close to the beach access. I loved being able to take our dogs to the beach and to meet so many other fur families.

Best place for the money

Older home but very clean and priced right. My wife and I will be staying here again. Short walk to the beach and beaches are not crowded.

Location, Location, Location

This property is located in a family and pet friendly neighborhood. Gulf Shores is a short and easy drive away and Dauphin Island is a fun Ferry ride away. The beach is just steps away! The communication from the property managers was fantastic!

Sweet Home Alabama

Vicki and I were looking for a place that we could escape the winter and found it here at Wasting Away. It’s a beach bungalow cottage with everything you need to enjoy Fort Morgan, one of the best kept secret's. The place had what we needed and if it wasn’t there we went to the Dollar General to get it. Wasting Away is about the beach, surf fishing, Mardi Gras and the Blue Angles flying by. If you have pets it’s perfect, a short walk to the dog friendly beach and miles of open space to run and play. The open floor plan has the longest kitchen center piece I’ve ever seen. Great for gatherings and just spreading out a buffet. Wasting Away is for independent minded people that can improvise, making it what you want it to be. It was the perfect place for the beach hippie in me. We plan to come back soon.

We are native Alabamians. We live in Tallassee, Alabama (a small town in central Alabama between Montgomery and Auburn, Alabama).
Joe and I are retired: Joe from being an Ag. teacher in the local high school, and from being an Attorney; Tina from the medical field. We have a herd of commercial Angus Cattle that we tend to, enjoy actively participating in our Church, traveling with our friends, and spending as much time as possible in Fort Morgan taking boat rides on Mobile Bay, fishing and shrimping, riding the ferry to Dauphin Island, bike rides in the Fort Morgan and Dauphin Island area, and not the least of which: ENJOYING THE PRETTIEST BEACH IN THE WORLD..........here in Ft. Morgan!!!!!!

The Fort Morgan area reminds us of how Gulf Shores was forty (40) years ago- prior to the proliferation of condos, both in Gulf Shores and in Orange Beach. Ft. Morgan is a quiet, peaceful place to relax and enjoy the pristine white sandy beach, salt air, and ever-present Gulf breezes; a community of single-family homes, with great neighbors and friends.

O que faz essa propriedade ser única?

'Wastin' Away' is a short walk to the beach- the street (Bernard Court East) actually dead ends onto the beach- there is no cutting through other property owner's yards, or walking down the beach front road east or west to access the 'public' areas. The Gulf and Bay views can be enjoyed from the front deck. Since the house is located about a 1/4 mile away from the marina, and less than a mile from the Ft. Morgan historic site with public boat launch and fishing pier, there are a lot of fishing and boating activities available- we enjoy shrimping and fishing in Mobile Bay.
