Guestbook comments from the owner

This was my first time booking on HomeAway so I was a little skeptical. However, Renato was very reassuring, answering my emails right away and providing me with step by step directions of what to expect. When I arrived at the hotel, it was exactly as he explained. The check in process was simple and fast. The room had just been cleaned and was immaculate. I had access to the hotel's amenities and Renato even had a local contact for me if I had any questions and could not reach him. As a first time user, I can only hope that other owners are as diligent as Renato.

Could be a great place with a little attention and full disclosure

  • 3 of 5

This could be an absolutely great place. The positives are many. The Mondrian is an awesome hotel, beautiful lobby, great workout room and unreal pool. The pool has very comfortable padded chairs that super friendly guys set up for you. The vibe is great, with everything from European families to young, hip twentysomethings. It overlooks the bay and the Miami skyline and you can lay there and watch the sun set over the buildings. No location in SB is bad as everything is walking and it was nice to have a little distance (and quiet) away from Ocean and Lincoln. Great walks to each every day and night. The beds were comfy, they left a cot for us and the bathroom was fine.

Now the bad. First of all, we never informed that there was construction on half the hotel and our balcony was closed and our windows were covered with blue sheeting and were filthy. We were lucky we were there over Christmas and no work was being done. Regardless, it was terrible we were not informed of this because we paid for a place with a balcony and windows. The room itself is nice but was very poorly maintained. Lights were out and broken, the kitchen area was filthy, there were few towels and no hangers, not enough sheets and other necessary items. That led to us trying to ask the hotel for those items and while we managed to get a few, we were also informed that the condo was not part of the hotel and we could not get sheets, towels, blankets or anything else. They would not even let me rent a bicycle they kept for guests. We also wondered whether we had pool privileges, The attendants were nice but they asked for our room key a few times and we had to play dumb. Not saying don’t rent but definitely ask the owners about these things before you do.

Beware! Pictures and description deceiving

  • 1 of 5

We were so excited about staying at the Mondrian but regretted the decision before we even arrived.

There were a number of things that went wrong, I’ll do my best to put our experience into words.

1) Arrival /check-in: We we’re arriving a bit before 3pm (check-in time) so we asked for early check-in. The room wouldn’t be ready early so we paid $5/bag to have the desk hold them. We came back at 3pm, the room still wasn’t ready. The property manager met us at 3:30pm to check on the room and it there was not a word from the cleaning company. Long story short, we didn’t get into our room until after 6pm.

2) Balcony: Dont get excited, we couldn’t even open the door, it was boarded up and the windows had blue wrap covering them. Definitely not a view of the bay, HUGE disappointment.

3) Refrigerator: The freezer was full of built up ice so unuasable and it caused almost all of our food to freeze/spoil. Ended up throwing out all of our produce and eggs. Sparkling water burst and made a mess.

4) Outlets: We thought we were losing our minds because our devices weren’t charging but it turned out it was the outlets that weren’t working. I’d say only about 1/2 of the outlets work and the lights in the bedroom flicker.

5) Valuables - lock them up: Last and most disturbing, we experienced theft. We left for dinner just before 7pm one night and returned about 1.5 hours later to find our Apple IPad Pro was taken along with our wireless Beats speaker. What a joke. The hotel staff appeared helpful initially but then completely dropped the ball. They didn’t and don’t care. Property manager didn’t seem to care either. Looking back, interesting he, Yazan, requested a key for himself when he checked us in... seems rather fishy he wasn’t interested in hearing about our losses.

Don’t waste your money on this place. Go somewhere else.

Great girls get away

  • 4 of 5

Loved the property. We were on the 3rd floor facing the parking lot. The owner has a few condos in the building. Pool area was perfect for a girls weekend get away. No car needed, uber took us everywhere. The shower leaked pretty heavily onto the bathroom floor but beyond that we had no issues. Two queen beds were super comfy. Building was very quiet. While there were a few children I would say the building steers to adults. Renata, the owner, was very easy to work and communicate with. I would stay again in a heartbeat.

Miami condo review

  • 3 of 5

I would like to say it was great but it was not due to

there is a broken refrigerator

there was not new towels ( only 6 or so for 10 days)

they do not communicate properly since he booked it from out of the country

He does not belong to the condo association so the desk cannot help you

He has a mgr in the hotel and if you use her and not him it would be ok

Awesome rental

  • 5 of 5

I frequent Miami and this by far is one of the best places I've ever stayed. The environment, staff , pool, spa and condo were great. Plenty of room and very well kept. I defiantly will stay here again. Very refreshing. Thank you Renato Neves.
