Overview

About the property

1 bedroom, 1 bath, sleeps up to 4

This 1920’s Spanish apartment is a gem in the middle of Hollywood/Los Feliz’s best neighborhood. It's in the thick of it, but just removed enough to still be quiet and safe. Live the Hollywood experience at the foot of the Hollywood hills with a view of the Griffith Observatory from the street. Not only is this unique place sun-drenched and private, but it puts you in walking distance to Los Feliz village with its boutiques, restaurants, and theatres. You are steps from Griffith Park, the Metro Red Line, all major bus lines to downtown, Beverly Hills, Silver Lake, and Santa Monica. One half block above Hollywood Blvd with its shops and nightclubs, you are living in the midst of all the major Hollywood attractions. The entrance to the 101 freeway which takes you to downtown, the Valley, Universal, Disney, or to the beach, is only blocks away.

This pristine chauffeur’s apartment was renovated to be a short-term rental. You are not staying in someone’s apartment. As a result it is equipped and designed to be comfortable for four nights or for a four-month business stay. Set back a half-block from the street with its own private entrance overlooking the motor court of a 1920’s fourplex, you have complete autonomy . The other tenants of the complex are all professionals: an actor, director, stylist and landscape architect. The unit is on the second floor with windows on three sides so it stays light and breezy year-round. Below you is an enclosed garage designated for your own use. The bedroom has a queen platform bed. In the living room is a fold out bed and there is a fold out foam mat stored in the closet for an extra guest.

Hardwood floors, high ceilings, built-ins, an extra large tub, a washer and dryer( inside the unit), a 32” Sony TV and DVD, WiFi, original art, a newly equipped eat-in kitchen, pet friendliness, onsite manager , are some of the reasons that this newly remade apartment will work for you whether you're coming to town to sightsee or do business in the nearby studios ( Paramount, Warners, Raleigh, Sunset Gower) or for the hospitals (Childrens, Kaiser. Presbyterian, Cedars).

Cute and clean......but?

  • 3 of 5

Very clean, convenient to where we were visiting. Bed too low to ground for older people to get in and out of. Also there is a shrill beep every 12-15 seconds from the apartments behind the room we slept in, very irritating.

Nice cozy place, good location

  • 5 of 5

The listing is very accurate! Not huge, but cozy and very usable for three people. It's an older apartment and to my eye had lots of charm. I really enjoyed staying there.

We enjoyed walking over to Vermont Street in Los Feliz and poking around the bookstores, bars and restaurants, and this was also a good base for LA sight seeing and college-visiting. It was easy to hop on freeways, or wind our way through surface streets to get where we were going.

The parking space was described as narrow in other reviews and when I first pulled in I was like "zomg this is narrow," but actually it's less narrow and more just sort of unforgiving, with a vertical stucco wall on one side and the stairs on the other. Just be careful and you'll be fine. This is a par-for-the-course city parking place -- wider than my old space in San Francisco, but you could easily destroy your rental car if you're driving like you're in the suburbs, so... don't do that! :)

Only caveat on the place: this is an urban apartment in an urban block and it has cute glass-slat windows that let in lots of street noise. I was 100% ok hearing street noises and conversations from other apartments across the alley (and, sadly, a beeping fire alarm low battery noise for a few days) but if you need silence, and the AC isn't enough white noise for you, you may want to keep looking. For me, this was no big deal.

Overall loved the location and walkability to Los Feliz, and we thought the apt itself was very nice and convenient. Communication w/ Shannon was straightforward and easy (we never met in person).

Comfortable long-term stay

  • 4 of 5

I occupied this apartment for a month while some major repairs were being done to my home. It met my needs very well - all the essentials are there, it's a very convenient location and quite walkable. The kitchen is very well equipped - I brought some of my own things but didn't really need them!

Like it says on the box, this is an older unit that's been updated - there's outlets galore and the finishings are nice. The layout of the kitchen and bathroom are a bit funky - very long/narrow and things are not in intuitive places, but that's only mildly inconvenient. I was here during the winter when the temperatures got quite low (for LA), but not inside! Even when I'd turn the heater down before I'd leave for work, the temperature inside never dropped significantly.

The bed is fairly comfortable, the sofa... not so much. A little while is fine but it's not really a place you want to spend hours reading a book on a rainy day!

Management is A+. The washer wasn't working when I first arrived, and it was replaced the next day. Armando, the handyman, is wonderful, and the owner Kenneth is engaged and friendly. Ironically, I probably interacted in person the least with Shannon, the manager, even though she lives next door! Any time I had a question, she was very prompt about responding via email; and really, I had almost no issues and therefore no need to contact her.

The neighborhood is good, this is the border of Los Feliz/East Hollywood/Thai Town so not as exclusive as Los Feliz but perfectly nice and safe. The street is lined with mid-sized apartment buildings and the noise level is consistent with that; you can hear people getting on with life, but nothing disruptive. The building behind this one did have a loud party two different weekends, but always shut it down before 11pm.

My final comment is about the parking space - while it is essential to have parking in this area, this space was quite narrow! I chipped the paint off the edge of my door (admittedly a long one, I drive a Mustang) when it almost inevitably hit the wall adjacent. Anyone not comfortable shimmying out of their car should be aware. I did have the option for a 1-car garage that I did not pursue, mainly because I'm lazy and didn't want to manually open/close the garage door. ;-P

Overall, I had everything I needed here for a month-long stay. Thanks Shannon, Kenneth, and Armando!

We spent 2 weeks here during the holidays and loved it. This apartment is so cute and Old Hollywood! Everything was spotless and the location was perfect. We loved walking at Griffith Park during our stay. Shannon was very nice and great to work with.
