About the property

1 bedroom, 1 bath, sleeps up to 4

This 1920’s Spanish apartment is a gem in the middle of Hollywood/Los Feliz’s best neighborhood. It's in the thick of it, but just removed enough to still be quiet and safe. Live the Hollywood experience at the foot of the Hollywood hills with a view of the Griffith Observatory from the street. Not only is this unique place sun-drenched and private, but it puts you in walking distance to Los Feliz village with its boutiques, restaurants, and theatres. You are steps from Griffith Park, the Metro Red Line, all major bus lines to downtown, Beverly Hills, Silver Lake, and Santa Monica. One half block above Hollywood Blvd with its shops and nightclubs, you are living in the midst of all the major Hollywood attractions. The entrance to the 101 freeway which takes you to downtown, the Valley, Universal, Disney, or to the beach, is only blocks away.

This pristine chauffeur’s apartment was renovated to be a short-term rental. You are not staying in someone’s apartment. As a result it is equipped and designed to be comfortable for four nights or for a four-month business stay. Set back a half-block from the street with its own private entrance overlooking the motor court of a 1920’s fourplex, you have complete autonomy . The other tenants of the complex are all professionals: an actor, director, stylist and landscape architect. The unit is on the second floor with windows on three sides so it stays light and breezy year-round. Below you is an enclosed garage designated for your own use. The bedroom has a queen platform bed. In the living room is a fold out bed and there is a fold out foam mat stored in the closet for an extra guest.

Hardwood floors, high ceilings, built-ins, an extra large tub, a washer and dryer( inside the unit), a 32” Sony TV and DVD, WiFi, original art, a newly equipped eat-in kitchen, pet friendliness, onsite manager , are some of the reasons that this newly remade apartment will work for you whether you're coming to town to sightsee or do business in the nearby studios ( Paramount, Warners, Raleigh, Sunset Gower) or for the hospitals (Childrens, Kaiser. Presbyterian, Cedars).

Great apartment in LA!

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying in this apartment while visiting LA. It perfectly met our needs for our trip. We will definitely be staying here again the next time we're in LA.

Great Place to Stay near Los Feliz!

  • 5 of 5

We needed a place for four (2 adults, 1 almost-teen, 1 young teenager) near Los Feliz to visit the aging in-laws, and this place was far, far nicer (and closer) than any of the "nearby" motels have been.

Directions and instructions to get in were easy for our traffic-addled brains to follow, and the place was just lovely. We mostly used the apartment for downtime between getting dragged all over LA, and it was fantastic to have some space to spread out in. Shannon was really helpful and gracious (even though our one "problem" was entirely our own ineptness) and we were disappointed not to have an excuse to try out the kitchen, which looked completely adequate. However, having a pizza place and a fantastic bakery right on the corner was so easy the night we weren't headed out to dinner! (We recommend the napoleon pastry made with nutella…)

Having an actual parking space also made going back to the apartment really easy. We'd recommend this place highly, and look forward to going back when we're next in LA to see the grandparents.

Not worth the cost

  • 2 of 5

I stayed here with a friend for three nights, and I was not very happy with the property considering the cost. The description says that it has been renovated, but I find that very hard to believe. The main room is a good size, but I got stuck sleeping on the futon couch (white couch in the photo). It was incredibly uncomfortable. Although it says it could fit two kids or two close adults there is no way that is true unless the adults are laying on top of each other. My feet were practically hanging off the end (and I'm only 5'3") and there is a huge crease down the middle, which killed my back. The kitchen is very old. The air conditioning wasn't working/nonexistent, so it was very warm to sleep, but the worst part was the bathroom. It is very old and small. The shower was by far the worst part. The water dribbles out of the shower head and was barely enough to get the soap out of my hair. Luckily, my sister lives a few blocks away (why I rented this place) so I was able to shower at her place. I wouldn't stay here again. It cost more than $500 for only 3 nights and the cost per night was much higher than the advertised nightly rate. There are cheaper hotels that are nicer than this place in the area.

Owner's Response: This vacation rental apartment has been rented for 3 years consistently, most times by returning clients. The response has been overwhelmingly positive to this Hollywood character apartment. So this review comes as quite a surprise and, certainly, an unusual occurrence. Even so, as the owner, it is one I take seriously. I will try to address each of these issues as directly and fairly as I can. First the price. This is a business licensed by the city of Los Angeles. As such, there is a 14% hotel tax which goes directly to the city. That exact amount of this tax was spelled out in the quote to this renter. Also there is a cleaning fee, which was also exactly stated in the quote. There are no other fees, hidden or otherwise. The price is precisely what is quoted before the person agrees to book the apartment. No changes are made at any time. Shannon, the manager of the rental unit, lives next door to the vacation rental. It is unfortunate that the renter waited until after she left to bring to our attention any of these matters. For example, if the shower head was clogged, Shannon would have contacted the handyman immediately, shown the renter the spare foam mattress already in the apartment, or provided additional fans. This August had been unusually warn in LA. Although the apartment has 9 windows on three sides, it was still warn. The tenant immediately preceding this one also experienced this unusual heat. Although this stucco building, shaded by trees, and full of breezes, has been comfortable since 1924, the planet is changing and it’s time for the building to change with it. So air conditioning is being installed. Incidentally, nowhere did it say in the online presentation that this apartment was air conditioned. The apartment has been completely renovated, hopefully leaving its charm and character intact. If the bathroom feels small, it may be because it has an oversized tub with a newly tiled shower (and new floor). The kitchen doesn’t have a dishwasher, but does have lots of cabinet space, an eat-in area and a laundry room off of it. The appliances are new and the 1920‘s tile work is original. What I consider charm, this renter may have considered old. And finally, the sleeper sofa. Although nobody has mentioned this before, I think this is valuable feedback which I am very happy to address. In the future, Shannon will supply a queen-sized airbed to any renter who prefers it to the sleeper sofa.

Great Location, Good Size

  • 4 of 5

I was commuting to Griffith Park so it was an ideal location - slightly outside the craziness of Hollywood but not too far that you couldn't dip in and out. Good sized apartment, free parking, great wifi. No air con which could make afternoons a little uncomfortable but lots of windows made for a nice through-breeze at night. Safe area. Good value. I'd definitely stay again.

Owner's Response: Thanks Sam for the feedback. Since there are windows on 3 sides it never occurred to us that heat would be an issue in this apartment. But we have, in fact, altered the planet so we must alter the rental to suit the climate change or we wouldn't be providing you the best rental experience in LA. We now plan to air condition the unit. We hope this will further encourage you to return.
