This pretty lakeside town sits in the north of Connecticut, an idyllic corner of the state which promises an upscale and secluded retreat. Take it slow in Salisbury
Salisbury is surrounded by rolling hills where you can hike through woodland, past babbling brooks. It's wonderful back country for hunting and fishing, or paddling about on the water. The town's sparkling Twin Lakes are known for trout and kokanee. Head to O'Hara's Landing to take out a boat for the day, or fish from the quiet shore. Neighboring Wononscopomuc Lake is the deepest in the state, and this vast swathe of glittering water holds plenty of fish for anglers to seek out. Walking through the New England backwoods in spring is a wonderful way to experience this state. The treetops are alive with birdsong and the delicate spring flowers push through to frame the wooded trails. In the summer, Salisbury's lakeside location really comes into its own, with opportunities to go boating and kayaking. On warm sunny days, the local beaches are great for soaking up some sunshine. Of course, the fall color attracts many visitors to this part of Connecticut. Then, come winter, as the snow falls, the trails are popular for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.

As well as the town's pretty lakes, the Housatonic River runs sleepily through town, offering more potential for anglers and kayakers. Some of the best local trails are just over the state line in Massachusetts, including the rolling hills of Bartholomew's Cobble and the picturesque mountain waterfalls of Bash Bish Falls, 15 minutes and 30 minutes from Salisbury vacation rentals respectively.
