Amazing view of Lake Michigamme
I had a great experience staying at this cabin. It was very clean with no "old cabin in the woods" smell. The view of Lake Michigamme are amazing and worth the trip. I'll be looking for a good week to spend here again next year and have recommended it to friends and family.
A beautiful, tranquil place with all the amenities needed for a relaxed stay.
We had a great time and had many opportunities to fish, hike and explore the U.P.! We highly recommend this rental if you want a laidback vacation.
Good basic cabin. Accommodated 7 people easily
We like to fish and love Michigamme especially for this reason. We were only able to get out on the lake 4 out of the 7 days...can't control the weather. However, made the most of the situation by going antiquing, sightseeing, casinoing and eating. The cabin had everything we needed ... Lots of towels and blankets and is located nearby enough to points of interest (by U.P. standards).
Cabin in the woods!!
Great vacation home. Had a great time visiting the U.P. House has plenty of space, dock for fishing, boating.
Fishing with the family
We arrived to find the cottage just as described. The view was very nice from the screened porch. Partially obstructed by trees but still pleasant. The interior felt like home. Nothing extravagant but nicely furnished and comfortable. Our concern was hot summer nights so we brought fans. Surprisingly they weren't necessary because of a nice breeze off the lake most of the time and there were fans available. This also kept the bugs mostly at bay but a walk down the access road was an invitation to attack. The kitchen was well equipped and the dryer was nice since it rained a couple of days and dry rain gear was a plus. The home has some very nice oil paintings, comfortable beds, selection of movies and some reading material. The fishing was as I expected, fair. The lake is a Canadian Shield lake with tannic stained water. There was a walleye stocking in 2010 which produced a lot of 13' to 15'" fish. Fishing reports should always include the level of proficiency of the anglers. I consider us above average in skills and effort. My boat landed 132 walleyes. Most were returned unharmed to the water but we did keep fish to eat on three days. The over 15" part of the catch was maybe 6 to 1 ratio. We mainly fish for walleyes but caught some crappie, smallmouth and northern pike also. Maybe 15 smallies up to 3 1/2 lbs, 6 crappies about 10" and 6 northern pike up to 28". First part of the week minnows worked best but leeches were favored toward the end. We fish live bait so we can't report on artificial bait results. The fish were all caught in a 12' to 22' range. I think this is normal for this time of year. The pleasure craft traffic was not a problem. Bait, gas and most items were readily available within 10 minute drive. The fire pit is on a very level tier one flight down and was nice. Now the negatives; Iron (sulfur) cottage water necessitated the carrying of drinking and cooking water. We new this going in and it wasn't a problem. The 70 steps to the dock was a challenge (My wife and I are 63 and flabby) but having youngsters along made the trip up and back 4 times a day easier, they did the heavy carrying. The dock is nice but the boat lift on the right is for a bigger boat so a fishing boat didn't fit well. We could have docked both 16' fishing boats on one side but it would have been tight. Cleaning our fish was done in the boat on a board and getting rid of the carcasses proved to be difficult. Next year I will have a fish cleaning station.
Nice quiet location, outstanding view, clean, comfortable and well stocked cabin. We really enjoyed our stay here, thank you!
Just minutes by boat or car to Van Riper State Park, and a few miles down the road you can dine at the Mount Shasta Restaurant. Approximately 35 miles from the city of Marquette, the Upper Peninsula's budding metropolis.
