Camp Pops-and-Beers rests on 200' of Lake Michigamme shoreline. This recently renovated home has 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and boasts a large open living/kitchen/dining area floorplan with a fieldstone gas fireplace & floor to ceiling windows that overlook the expansive deck & lakefront.
Our 2015 renovation to the lower level adds a large family room area with ping pong table, movie watching and gaming area, as well as the 2nd bathroom and the 4th bedroom.
An easy to walk gravel trail will lead you through the trees down to the lakefront, where there's a large fire pit area steps away from the dock and beach/swim area. No noise or view of the highway here. The lake reaches 70 feet at it's deepest point. With 27 islands and 95 miles of shoreline this 4000+ acre lake is great for every summer or winter sport. A few of our favorites include: kayaking, wake boarding, water skiing, tubing, sailing, fishing, swimming, snow shoeing, snow mobiling, down hill skiing, ice fishing and sledding/tubing.
We are an active family of 4 from Wisconsin that loves the outdoors & searched throughout Northern Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan for over 6 years for the perfect lakefront property. In the fall of 2005 we found Camp Pops-and-Beers located on the shores of beautiful Lake Michigamme and fell in love. The cottage was a bit rustic to put it mildly, but the property was absolutely spectacular. After purchasing it in the fall of 2005 we finished the construction of our new cottage in the winter of 2007. When finally completed our dream of having a family vacation spot in the north woods had been realized. Needless to say we are absolutely in love with the outdoor surroundings and all the amenities our cottage offers.
Tammy purchased this house in 2007
The cottage is only 9 years old and had the lower level updated in the summer of 2015 to add a 2nd bathroom & 4th bedroom. The house has all the luxuries of home. It is private, giving you the feeling of being secluded in the woods, but is located centrally in the Upper Peninsula so if you just want to sit by the lake, watch the kids swim & enjoy a beautiful sunset you can or if you want to do a day trip to nearby Marquette or Houghton/Hancock and discover a great restaurant, take a glass bottom boat tour or hike to a waterfall you can do that too. The choices at Camp Pops-and-Beers are endless. If you can picture yourself and your family doing any of these things then this is the dream vacation destination for you.
Camp Pops-and-Beers gives you unlimited access to any outdoor activity you can imagine. In the summer enjoy swimming, water skiing, wake boarding, tubing, hiking, fishing, kayaking, ATVing, & mountain biking. In the winter enjoy snowmobiling, snow shoeing, sledding, tubing, downhill or cross country skiing, & ice fishing.
The Coffey's beautiful home on my favorite lake was a great place to rendezvous with our kids and grandkid.
We hiked, cruised Lake Michigamme and froze in Lake Superior.
Very Good Times!
Camp Pops and Beers is the perfect family getaway. The house is extremely clean and has been newly updated. The fire pit area is a fantastic gathering place for the family after a day of exploring Lake Michigamme. We had 12 people in our party and we were able to sleep very comfortably here. The owner Tammy was very nice to work with and saw to it that we were very happy and content with our stay. We would rent this house again if we are ever in the area.
Our family of four loved this vacation home. We had a great time fishing Lake Michigamme, playing ping pong, enjoying the fire pit, visiting nearby waterfalls (Bond Falls, and Canyon Falls), watching the sunset and the northern lights! Our family is already planning our next visit.
We had a group of 8 for snowmobiling, and everyone agreed that this was a very nice home, with plenty of room for all. We ate breakfasts and suppers in, and there was nothing wanting in the kitchen for cooking utensils, dishes, pots and pans, etc. The gas fireplace was a nice touch, too.
Only 2 small things kept this from being a perfect place for us. First, we came during a low snow period of time, so the road in was not conducive to riding out. However, there is a park and ride a couple of miles away, at the highway, and the trails start right across the street, at the Michigamme Market. It was not a big deal for us to trailer out to the park and ride every day, and if you come during a time when it snows regularly, riding out would be possible. You could also ride across the lake to get to the trails, but none of us was familiar enough with the ice conditions to try that. Secondly, the driveway is on a fairly steep hill and while the road was dry, the driveway was still quite icy. There is a flat area by the street and a turnaround right next door, so we were able to leave our vehicles within easy walking distance, without having to deal with the ice on the steep portion of the driveway. So, both of our concerns were easily worked around, and they really only apply to snowmobilers. I can imagine this is a really nice place to spend a week at the lake in the summer.
All in all, a great place, and the owners have thought of everything to make your stay comfortable.
The house was nice and had all the amenities we needed. The main living area was large enough and had plenty of seating for all to be able to congregate, socialize, etc. From a Snowmobiler's perspective we were unable to ride snowmobiles from the house. The snowplows plowed the roads to the point there was not enough snow coverage on the roads.
We understand there is access to the snowmobile trail system from the lake, however, the locals advised against riding the lake. Getting down to the lake was also of concern as we did not know the terrain. There were boulders and we were not sure what other surprises may be there. There was no space on the property to park the trailers, and we were not comfortable with nor are we accustomed to leaving the trailers in the 'Park-n-Rides' areas. Fortunately we were able to park the trailers in the snowplow turnaround which kept them closer to the property. We ended up taking the trailers to the truck stop and riding from there.
While it wasn't ideal for snowmobilers, we could see where it would be a great place to stay on a summer vacation and would highly recommend it.
The customer service and excellent, the house was clean and well maintained.
Excellent vacation value! Outstanding accomodations with everything being as it was described. We'd like to stay at Camp Pops-and-Beers again.
