Duane’s group was very respectful of our space, and we would recommend them to everyone.
We live in Baltimore City and were looking for a quiet place to get away for a few days, and we were very happy we were able to bring our dog. The basement apartment was spacious and newly renovated with a beautiful, well stocked kitchen. The hosts, Paul and Meg, live upstaris with their 2 dogs and were very friendly and accomodating. They always responded right away to any questions we had. The property is beautiful and quiet. We enjoyed sitting out in the front yard watching the horses across the street, and enjoyed seeing a lot of deer as well. There isn't really access to the river from the property unless you want to brave a very steep hill. But my understanding is that there is a project planned to eventually provide easier access to the river. Paul did show us a place to access the river just about 2 miles away, and we did enjoy a nice afternoon sitting by the river. We went to Harpers Ferry (about a 30 minute drive) a few times to do some hiking. We also did some hiking at Sweet Run State Park in Virginia (also about a 30 minute drive). We very much enjoyed our stay.
Beautiful Spacious Forrest Retreat Near World Class Hiking and National Parks.
The unit is very large and spacious and very beautifully decorated. All of the interiors and furnishings are of the highest quality. I felt very nice spending time in the unit itself whether that be cooking in the large very modern kitchen, watching TV on the many soft sofas, or sleeping in on a weekend morning on any of the four comfortable beds. While I loved being in the unit, I spent most of my time hiking on the near by C&O Canal, touring Antietam National Battlefield, and driving down Skyline Drive in the Shenandoah National Park. All of these world class sites are less than an hour's drive away and not subject to traffic of any kind. I got exactly what I hoped for by choosing to live a month in West Virginia: Enjoying beautiful nature with trees, creeks, rivers, and many, many amazing birds and deer. It was a great and relaxing time that I will remember forever. Also important to mention is the professionalism and kindness of the hosts. There was a nice greeting card from them when I arrived welcoming me and inviting me to reach out to them if I needed anything. Every time I requested something they had it placed in front of my door almost immediately. Also a great bonus is they are super pet friendly and my dog really enjoyed the stay as well.
