Overview

About the property

Cabin, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6)

This 3 BR, 2 bath cabin is beautifully decorated with all the comforts of home. The cabin is located on LONG LAKE, which is a 3,300 acre lake; the largest in Washburn County. It is known for its bass and pan fish, as well as the ever elusive, walleye. Since the Boy Scouts of America own 10-15 miles of shoreline that is undeveloped, there is a private, wilderness feeling about that part of the lake. On the other hand, visitors to the lake can enjoy the convenience of 2 marinas and several bar/restaurants along the developed side of the lake. One of our favorite activities is taking a leisurely boat ride down to one of the restaurants for lunch or supper. The lake is 18 miles long with 99 miles of shoreline, so it could take several days to explore it all!

This cabin is located on the large north bay of Long Lake which is great for water skiing, tubing and fishing. As you travel south on the lake you can enjoy the scenery of the Boy Scouts land and more good fishing areas, or stop by the sand bar for a game of volleyball.

Our cabin is one of 5 cabins in a private association called Whispering Pines, that at one time, was a traditional "mom and pop" resort. The nearly 2 acres of grounds are well maintained and the property has over 180 feet of beautiful shoreline with a nice gravel-bottom swimming area. The grounds and shoreline are shared with the 4 other cabins, but this is the only cabin within the group that is available for rent, so it may be very quiet during your rental week. You enjoy all the amenities at Whispering Pines, including a fish-cleaning house with running water and a refrigerator for your bait. There's a basketball hoop for shooting baskets, horse shoe pits, a campfire ring overlooking the lake, a second campfire ring right next to the cabin, and a wonderful shoreline deck that's perfect for early morning coffee or for watching the kids swim. There is a large guest dock that you may use to moor your boat.

You will enjoy seeing a variety of wildlife; eagles, osprey and loons are common on the lake. Try and spot the eagles nest on waters edge just south of this property. There is a county forest located across the road with hiking, cross country skiing and ATV trails. A bait shop (and much more) is located just down the road, and Butternut Hills Golf Course is only 3 miles away. The town of Stone Lake is 6 miles east of the cabin with shops, restaurants, Wi-Fi connections, wine shop, and Co-op grocery store. The conveniences found in HAYWARD, SPOONER, AND RICE LAKE, are all less than 30 minutes away by car.

This cabin has been tastefully remodeled for your full enjoyment. The master bedroom has a king bed, it's own bath and satellite TV. One guest room has a queen bed and the other guest room has two twin beds. Upon request, the twin beds can be made up into a king bed. The cabin has a large kitchen adjoining a very nice family room with a large flat screen TV, Dish satellite service, and DVD player. A washer and dryer are conveniently tucked into a corner of the kitchen.

Enjoy the lake and the many area activities and then relax back at the cabin with all the amenities you enjoy at home.

About Sherry

Both my husband and I have lived in Wisconsin most of our lives. We currently live about 80 miles away from our beloved Long Lake, but close enough should any service issues arise during your stay.

Sherry purchased this cabin in 2003

Why Sherry chose Stone Lake

We started enjoying Wisconsin's lovely northwoods as a young couple with small children. At first, we camped with a tent, then upgraded to a tent trailer, then a larger camper, and then a 5th wheel camper, complete with slide outs. After 15 years of camping on and around beautiful Long Lake, we knew it was the place for us. Long Lake is one of the most spectacular lakes in Northwest Wisconsin, with crystal clear water and just the right combination of wilderness and development. We bought our cabin here, because we wanted to enjoy the lake year round.

Comfortable, well stocked cabin.

  • 4 of 5

Two parents and 3 twenty-something kids enjoyed the comfortable, well stocked cabin with nice northwoods decor. The cabin itself is not on the lake. There are 3 cabins and about 400 ft. between this cabin and the lake. However, there is a communal deck with table and chairs overlooking the lake that we liked very much, and generally had to ourselves. Except for the weekend, there were few other people around. The other owners were very friendly and helpful.

The owners had notified us that they would be at the cabin Sunday to fix a deck railing. Unfortunately, it turned out that it was an all day affair to change the railing from wood to vinyl (In order to match the appearance of the other side of the deck that had needed a code upgrade). This tended to ruin the whole fantasy of having a cabin of our own.

We really enjoyed the area, Especially Hayward, Spooner, and Shell Lake. Check out the Potter's Shed in Shell Lake!

Owner's Response: I'm sorry our renters felt disappointed, but our cabin property is on the lake. We own, along with 4 other couples, a 2 acre parcel of land with 185 feet of shoreline on Long Lake. In the 1950's - 1970's, the property was operated as a small summer resort. There are five cabins on the property, and our cabin, as the newest of the five, sits 325 feet from the water. Our guests have access to the whole property; the lakeside deck, the fire pits, the docks, the fish cleaning shack, and the entire shoreline area. The elevation is quite low, with only 16 steps down to the guest dock and our land has a very gentle upward slope, which is a huge plus when compared to many other properties that have 100 or more steps and a very steep incline to the lake. Because our cabin rental business is fully licensed by the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection, we undergo inspections the same as motels and hotels. We have always passed all inspections with flying colors. At our last inspection, the inspector requested that we update our our deck railing to comply with current code specifications. We're sorry our renters felt inconvenienced, but we didn't start our work until close to 10 am and we were finished by 5 pm. All of our work was outside the cabin and since there are multiple entry doors, our work did not hinder our renter's access to the cabin or the area of the deck with the table, chairs and gas grill.

Delightful cabin - wonderful week!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I, along with family from Colorado, spent a wonderful week at Sherry and Vern's cabin on Long Lake. The cabin was amazingly clean, well-stocked and felt like home!! We enjoyed the short stroll in the morning down to the lake with our coffee, and meeting the other residents of the area. Sherry and Vern were very accommodating, helping us with the logistics of getting our kayaks situated at the dock. We had a minor problem, Sherry came right out and took care of it. The four of us would definitely stay here again. There was nothing the cabin lacked that we wanted or needed, from coffee to pots and pans, games and comfy beds. If you are looking for a Northwoods get-away, this is it!!

I had a nice time at Whispering pines. It brought back childhood memories when I was growing up on Long Lake for Vacation. Whispering Pines would be a place I would go back to in the futures. Owners are very nice people!!!!!!!!
