Note: Getting to this property requires travel via Casco Bay Ferry Lines or water taxi. These are passenger ferries, not car ferries, but golf carts are available for rent on the island. This cozy cottage is the ideal location for a refreshing family getaway to Long Island. This 2-bedroom home is in excellent condition and is a seven-minute walk to the South Beach, the most pristine beach in Casco Bay.

The home features an open floor plan that includes the kitchen, dining area, and living room. Sliding glass doors in the living room lead to a spacious screened porch with outdoor sectional, rocking chairs, and twinkle lights. There are two bedrooms, one with a queen bed and another with a full-sized bed. For extra sleeping arrangements for children, there is a queen-sized air mattress that can be used in the living room.

In addition to being a short walk / bike from South Beach, the cottage is located a one-minute walk from activities that include tennis and basketball courts, as well as a playground.

Long Island has many activities for outdoor enthusiasts: surf fishing from the shore, swimming in the ocean, biking and long walks, and beautiful locations to watch sunsets. Spend the end of the day relaxing by steaming lobsters caught fresh from the local lobstermen that live on the island.

Frequent ferry service to Portland gives you access to restaurants that foodies dream of and some of the country's best beer selection. Venture north to Freeport if you are interested in L.L. Bean and other shopping.

Island cottage the way it should be

Very clean, comfortable, and complete with all the comforts of home, and the decor was an added bonus. We had an amazing time, we explored the island, enjoying the gorgeous beaches and friendly islanders. We played the board and card games (provided) every night after watching the amazing sunset from different points around the island. The large screened-in porch was a favorite place to gather. Jacob was very responsive and welcoming, making this entire vacation a breeze and pleasant. The best family vacation! We can't wait to do it again next year!

Awesome house on a quiet pristine island, just a beautiful ferry ride from Portland Maine. Rent a golf cart and the island is very accessible with great beaches and views around every corner

Perfect escape

The Lobster Trap was everything we hoped for in a getaway from the city. We spent our days on the beach and our nights reading on the wonderful porch. It was a great location for young kids - Jacob has provided everything from a packnplay and highchair to beach toys which made getting to the island so easy. Jacob is a great communicator and provided invaluable advice and recommendations for enjoying our stay. We purchased a couple of frozen to go meals from Hardshell Cafe since it (and many other businesses on the island) aren’t open on spring weekdays. Everyone we interacted with was incredibly kind and helpful and because of the timing of our visit we often felt like we had the island to ourselves. We will definitely be back!

Location and charm!

Jacob was great to communicate with. He answered all my questions in a timely manner and was pleasant to rent from! He and his cleaning staff were very accommodating in that we arrived early on the island and were able to leave our items at the cottage before check in and go explore the island. The cottage was clean, cozy, convenient, had a great porch and plenty of space for all of us to spread out. I would definitely rent this cottage again!

Very Comfortable stay on a beautiful island

Jacobs house on Long Island is well worth the visit. My wife and I were unfortunately only able to stay for a couple of days but it was well worth the trek. You can definitely get by without a golf cart or car if you want to. The house is almost a mile walk from the ferry but every time we were carrying our backpacks to or from the house one of the local homeowners stopped and gave us a ride. Everyone was incredibly friendly. The house was very comfortable for my wife and I and you could easily fit a small family in the home. The kitchen was well stocked for cooking which is great because eating out on the island isn't much of an option. Its very quiet at night out there and the porch is a great place to kick back and relax. The ferry rides limit how easily you can make it into Portland but the tickets are inexpensive and a great way to see the bay. I definitely recommend taking the late ferry in at least once to see the bay and islands at night. Very fun trip and we hope to come back again!

Great cottage, beautiful beaches and a golf cart

We had an incredible stay at the cottage. We arranged for a golf cart to be ready for us at the ferry and drove straight to the house. It was very nice inside, there's a great screened in porch. The beaches on the island are beautiful and definitely worthy a visit. I wouldn't hesitate to go back again.

Quiet!

This island cottage is tucked away -- yet just minutes from the ferry. And there is plenty of room inside with a big open kitchen/living room making it easy to accommodate all. In Maine in the summer a screened porch is a must -- and this cottage's porch is big, roomy and comfy where I spent a lot of time just sitting and listening to nature sounds. Had a great time! The owner was also very attentive to make sure I had everything I needed for my stay.

The property is just as advertised, maybe even better.

The house is beautiful. Very nice cabin. It is very evident that the owners have pride in their property as well as the evidence of the house having been improved recently. The kitchen is stocked with any and everything you will need during your stay for cooking. The back porch is full of any cooking selection type you could want from gas grilling to a complete setup for boiling or steaming lobster. Lobster that is purchased from neighborhood lobstermen. So fresh, so hometown, it's really a lot of fun. The cabin comes with multiple choices of literature to guide you through the process of cooking lobster. The island is an incredible haven of friendly folks who give up the charm of their island to visitors freely. Everyone we spoke to was so nice and forthcoming with information and guidance. While driving around the island on our rented golf cart, it seemed as though there is a city ordinance to wave, everyone was so friendly. Dealing with the owners was so easy. Jacob was so pleasant and gave us so many tips to help our week on the island that much more enjoyable. One more note. The beds are very comfortable. Coming from someone who's had two back surgeries, that's saying a lot. Thank you for sharing your home and island with us.

Beautiful, Peaceful Cabin

Jacob's cabin was beautiful and I very much enjoyed my stay. He was very communicative during my entire stay and even checked in to make sure that everything was okay. Getting out to Long Island from Portland is not difficult but the ferry only runs at certain times. This may not be for everyone, but for me, it forced me to slow down and enjoy the beautiful Long Island. The cabin itself was vert well kept and had plenty of space. The screened in porch was perfect for spending the morning enjoying the sounds of nature. If you're looking for a peaceful cabin in the woods with a close proximity to water and Portland, I'd highly recommend this place.

Just the peace and quiet my wife and I were longing for. Quaint house with everything you need. Bought lobsters off the neighbor, used a golf cart to get around, and the entire island was over-the-top friendly. Only complaint was that the floor in the bathroom is in some serious need of repairs due to a leak. We'd definitely stay again!

Perfect place to spend a week on the island, close to everything but private, too.

The cottage is open, welcoming, clean and nicely sited on the island. The screened porch along the front is the place to be - no matter if it's sun or rain - perfect spot. While not directly on the beach, you can hear the surf and the birds, find both sun and shade, and walk to 3 beaches within minutes. The owner was very easy to work with and very responsive. Wonderful place to spend a week on the island and definitely recommended! We hope to be back next year.

Charming cottage, lovely hosts!

The owners of this lovely cottage have done a beautiful job creating a welcoming and cozy space. Everything is clean and neat, with a simple and tasteful Maine summer style. Just about everything we needed was there, and our hosts offered great suggestions and tips for navigating the island (which is beautiful, by the way). Unfortunately, our stay was cut short due to some unforeseen circumstances, but our hosts were kind, wonderful to work with and very understanding. We will surely be back in the future!

Why they chose this property

I married my wife on Fowler's beach on Long Island in 2012. In other words, I married into Long Island and I'm so glad I did! Even though we move around the world as a military family, we wanted a property on Long Island so we would always have a place to return every summer.

What makes this property unique

We decided on this property because it is on the southwestern portion of the Long Island which is walking distance to South Beach, one of the most pristine beaches in Maine. We also love the screened porch where we love to sit and entertain family and friends over steamed lobsters. Additionally the property is situated right next to tennis and basketball courts, as well as a playground for children.
