Another great stay at the Beachfront!

  • 5 of 5

Last September was the third year that we rented this wonderful cottage. When we arrive it feels like coming home. In a way, it is like coming home for my husband who grew up just down the road and who still has family living quite close by. We have some great get-togethers and we love when they stop in at the cottage. Even though our last visit was in the second week of September, we had good weather, some wind but some sunsets that were breathtaking. Each morning we could hear the lobster boats pass by and look to see their lights as they sailed up the Northumberland Strait. We never tire of the view of the beach and love to go for walks on it! While on the Island we were able to take part in the Fall Flavours Festival for the first time and really enjoyed the Lobster Party on the Beach at West Point which is not far away. We were very impressed with the food, celebrity chef and ambience. Down the road is a church which hosts weekly ceileidhs, featuring amazing musical acts. You just have to be there early to get a seat! It is always great to see the couple who take such pride in keeping the lawns and flowerbeds looking beautiful and and always a pleasure to chat with Elwood who stops by to ensure that we are enjoying our stay.

We love the changes in the kitchen and all the new appliances which added to the level of comfort that we had. It is a fun, relaxing week that seems to go by too quickly but we look forward to our next stay at this special cottage!

Amazing views!

  • 5 of 5

This was probably one of the best VBRO properties my family has visited. The views were amazing, the neighbors outstanding, and the owners were accommodating.

There were a few areas that I would improve upon, such as more supplies available upon arrival (condiments, much needed bug spray, and/or a book with printed instructions on how to use appliances, where to find things, where to put the trash, etc.), more quilts/blankets (it was much chillier than I expected in July!), and seating in the main living area. As it was, there was a well-used click-clack couch, a couple of cushioned desk-like chairs, and one wooden kitchen chair to sit on other than the dining furniture. Updates here would be well worth it as you sit to look out the sliding glass doors at the beautiful ocean view. With that said, it was clear that updates had been done in the kitchen, and the dining set was very comfortable. Not only that, the owners kindly provided us with a pack-n-play and highchair for our little one. As long at the weather is nice, you probably won't spend much time inside, anyway!

The cottage is located on a more rural part of PEI, and the nearest town is about a 10 minute drive. Please keep in mind that things shut down early in small towns. We did not plan accordingly, arriving on a Sunday evening after the grocery store had closed. Also, if you want to do much sight seeing, expect to drive. There is a Potato Museum in the town 10 minutes away, and you can have access to the Confederation Trail there, as well. The Anne of Green Gables attractions are about 1 hr 45 min away, and Charlottetown is about the same distance. However, the drives are lovely. You either drive through gorgeously green farmland or along coastal highways. I don't remember one boring drive. Also, there are several lighthouses to visit relatively nearby (within 30 minutes), and I did find some boating expeditions you could take part in.

Overall, this was a low-key, relaxing vacation. I would take this over theme-parks or crowded beaches every time. Thank so much for the lovely opportunity to rent this property!

Great View

  • 3 of 5

Overall we had a very pleasant stay at this cottage.

Location is amazing and the view is breathtaking.

On another hand the cottage is quite old, and not having a dishwasher was a big disappointment for me with my family of 5.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review! It is an amazing location and view for sure! In the spring of 2016, the entire kitchen was rebuilt with all new appliances and a dishwasher as well...because the last thing we want to do at the beach is wash dishes!

Perfectly, perfect

  • 5 of 5

Celebrated my 60th birthday with family and good friends, eating lobster and oysters freshly caught that morning by local third and fourth generation lobstermen. It takes eating seafood to a whole other level from the vantage point on deck of the cottage. The night sky brimmed brightly with twinkling stars, constellations and distant galaxies, images so merger and hard to see in the artificially lit skies of NYC. The sweet smell of the dew and ocean air, the sound of the waves breaking, sea gulls skimming the water's top, and one morning, a lone heron stately strolling the edge of shore, and lobster boats small specs on the horizon. Beautiful! Almost Devine. We are looking forward to our next stay at the cottage.

Absolutely amazing!

  • 5 of 5

This place was heavenly. The views are even better than in the photos. The sound of the waves crashing on the beach, even the sound of the rocks crashing onto others rocks during a windy night- it was all perfect and wonderful to fall asleep to. We walked the beach multiple times a day looking for sea glass as the tide went out. As there isn't a tub for the little ones and the house is at the top of a cliff, unless you have complete obedience from your toddler, I would choose another location. Our 4 yr. old was able to navigate the stairs to the beach without any difficulty though I carried him the first few times. Our children spent almost all day, every day down at the beach. It was so peaceful and relaxing we had a hard time going off to do other things! We did go to the MacAuslands Woolen Mill and love our new blanket. We went to the local wharf and bought some lobster. It was delicious but difficult to handle as there wasn't a lobster pot, cracker or forks. We appreciated the picnic table outside and the fact there were enough chairs inside to seat us all. We spent most of our time out on the beach but also did some reading on the deck but it was hard to concentrate as the view is so beautiful. We could watch the lobster boats dropping their traps into the water. It rained a couple of times while we were there but we were comfy enough in the house playing games at the big table. Even when the rain did come, it didn't seem to last for long and we still had some amazing sunsets with nothing to block the view. The locals we met were all very friendly, we even went to a great local ceilidh. This was probably the most relaxing vacation we've ever had. We would stay here again in a heartbeat and stay longer!

A unique setting for total relaxation

  • 5 of 5

The cottage and its setting offer a unique way to experience PEI. The cottage is probably the one that has the most to offer in terms of privacy and scenery. The opportunity to enjoy the full spectrum of sunsets from a comfortable chair on the deck cannot be equalled. Children will enjoy the easy access to the beach and will spend hours playing in the small riverr that crosses the beach. The beach also offers wide spreads of sandy bottom which will make it easy for them to enjoy the sea. A paradise for dogs that may run free at the leisure of their owners.

If falling asleep at the sound of the sea is what you are looking for, nowhere will you be served better on the island. The unique location of the cottage makes this a feature that is not easily equalled.

Map

Our cottage sits above a small cliff, providing sweeping views of the ocean & your own private and secluded red sand beach. It has a large deck overlooking the beach, with seating to enjoy the breathtaking sunsets over the Gulf of St Lawrence.

The cottage grounds are 5 acres of cut grass, providing a large playing area for outdoor activities. Located on the very scenic Rt 14 coastal drive, you can enjoy amazing cycling and walking along this picturesque paved roadway. The cottage is a mere 5-10 minute drive from the famous West Point Lighthouse, and 15 minutes from the 18 hole Mill River Golf Course, and outdoor water-park.

The cottage is nestled by the distant West Cape wind farm, where the turbines around you calmly turn providing power to the island. Take a beautiful drive up the coast on RT 14 to the North Cape Wind Farm test facility.

During lobster season, the close by fishing harbor provides countless hours of watching lobster boats bringing in their catch, and an opportunity to buy some fresh lobster right from the source.
