They lived here every summer providing a vacation home for their children and grand children (16 gc). A decision to move to Wisconsin to be closer to grand children now makes this property available for rental or sale.
Ron O'Connor purchased this house in 2002
Tiverton RI is a bucolic and quaint old new England town, founded in 1694 its history begins earlier with the landing of the pilgrims, the Indian wares and the American revolution. Main road is one of America's most scenic drives winding 9 miles South along the wide Sakkonnet river thru farmlands and estates in Little Compton, RI. ending at ocean beaches .
Situated 60 minutes from Boston and 25 miles East of Providence, 20 minutes from the historic whaling town of New Bedford there are endless opportunities for exploration. The main house vine covered patio faces west down the manicured lawn to a tree shaded waterfront on Nanaquacket pond. This has been lovingly furnished and used only as the owners summer home and being offered as a summer rental for the first time.
We know from experience that it is very difficult to find good accommodations in or near Little Compton, RI where we have family reunions every year. This property was the best so far. Though a little far from Sakonnet Point where we gather every year it was spacious, has extensive grounds on the waterfront, quiet, very well equipped, clean and well maintained, and AIR CONDITIONED. This past week the temperatures on the east coast passed 100, It was great to come back from the beach to a very comfortable home. An added plus is the proximity to Evelyn's seafood restaurant which is great and has wonderful take out too. And the owner of the property is very helpful. I highly recommend it.
We had a family vacation where 14 adult family members met in Rhode Island. We chose this rental for its location and the abilty to sleep 14 people comfortably - we were able to go for a day trip to either Plymouth Rock, Cape Cod, Boston, Salem, Newport, or Providence and then meet the end of the day at the house. We cooked every night - everyone took turns - the kitchen was large, well equipped, with enough dishes for all of us. We were lucky to have beautiful weather for the entire stay and spent lots of time outside. The kayaks were being used daily (how nice to kayak on the bay at sunset), the yard was large enough for frisbee and badminton and there was plenty seating inside and outside for everyone. We loved the hammock (it was very comfortable) and the ability to make a fire in the firepit. The owner was very helpful and always replied to inquiries immediately. The house was big enough for 14 people to have plenty of space. Wifi worked perfectly, there was a rule book, but there were few rules and they were easy to follow. Security deposit was returned quickly. Everyone had a great time and we hope to come back!
For a vacation with several generation or with multiple families! Nice location, owners very nice and easy to get in touch with. House is divided in two leave opportunities to separates adults from children or different families. Our kids loved having their own house. Beds are very confortable, open spaces! Perfect.
Great place for large gathering. We pretty much filled the 14 beds with family. It was great swimming at high tide, not so much otherwise but that was indicated in the listing. We kayaked and enjoyed being together is such a private serene setting. We tried Evelyn's restaurant (featured on Diners, Dives, and Drive-In - Guy Fierro) and enjoyed the food and outside dinning by the water. We went to the town beach at Little Compton and had Ice Crème at Grays (a must). Easy access to Providence and New Bedford (Whaling Museum). Can't beat this property, no negatives, love - love - love.
My four children and I enjoyed this house immensely. I loved the classic decor. My teenagers liked the roominess, and my 10-year-old loved the yard. We enjoyed kayaking almost every morning and some evenings, and we saw a most stunning sunset. We watched the Canada geese do their morning and evening single file swims. We watched the tiny crabs feeding in front of the dock every morning. We saw the resident bunny at least once a day, and the resident groundhog three or four times during the week. We lounged on the comfortable and clean double hammock. We had a big lobster and steamer feast thanks to all the big pots and utensils. We grilled on the brand spanking new Charbroil four-burner gas grill. I sipped my morning tea on the front porch rockers.
The pictures don't do the house justice. It's truly lovely inside, with an impeccable and fresh butter yellow paint job. I don't know why there are no pictures of the bathrooms and bedrooms because they were charming! It's a little odd in that the largest bedroom is not the master bedroom; my daughter enjoyed that big brass bed all to herself. My teenage boys occupied the bedroom with twin trundles, and my youngest and I shared the smaller four-poster queen bedroom with the lovely view and the attached bathroom. Although we didn't use the guest house, it was so beautiful inside and out, with mostly modern Ikea furnishings.
The outside is fantastic. There is a large, well-groomed sloping yard in back, and a swing set. The two kayaks that are housed neatly on the kayak storage rack are the sit-on-top type, so understand that you will have a wet bottom as soon as you sit down, unless you bring your own hole stoppers, available at most sporting goods stores. The kayak storage rack also held two paddles, two child life vests and two adult life vests (I bought my own life vest, though, since it was hard to be sure all the bugs were out of all the hiding places on the adult vests. There were no hiding places in the child vests). The dock is composite (no splinters!) and has four small solar lights and a folding beach chair. The entire property was private, quiet, and beautiful.
If I had to look for any negatives, all I would be able to say is that the dishwasher racks are on their last legs! The homeowners have already taken care of a bug problem I had in the master bedroom. I would so gladly rent this house again next year if it were to be available at the bargain price I paid this year.
Bucolic setting, secluded but minutes away from Tiverton Four Corners offering dining, galleries, fine shopping, antiquing and farm stands as well as vineyards. Further down the road is a public ocean beach. This property is located directly on Nanaquacket pond with boat access to the Sakkonet river and Narraganset Bay
