Fabulous cabin in Yosemite

  • 5 of 5

This is an amazing cabin in Yosemite. House has everything you will need. Kitchen is fully equipped. The location is wonderful - in a small community of houses, and yet very private. You must go out an night onto the porch and watch the night sky. You will never see so many stars - the area has no light pollution.

Owl Moon - a great spot for a family vacation

  • 5 of 5

We just returned from a 4 night stay in Owl Moon. It's probably the best rental place we've ever stayed in. Very clean, and all appliances and fixtures seem updated and new. The cabin itself is a great place to stay.

The cabin is in Foresta, which is about 20 minutes away from Yosemite Valley. That could be a problem if you want to go down to Yosemite Valley later in the day...traffic will be AWFUL. But, we were up and out of our cabin by 8:45 each morning, and were able to drive straight into YV with little traffic. Keep that in mind for your planning.

We liked being out of the craziness of YV, and the location was convenient for doing things like Tuolomne Meadows (about 75 minutes away), Tenaya Lake (~45 minutes), or the Tuolomne Grove of sequoias (15 minutes). We saw many warnings not to trust GPS inside the park, but both my iPhone Maps app and our car's GPS system led us directly to the cabin's address.

Highly recommend this place for a Yosemite stay. We'd stay again.

Great place!

  • 5 of 5

We just returned from our stay at Owl Moon and it couldn't have been better! The cabin is very clean and had everything that you would need. We traveled with our 10 year old and 6 year old. When we weren't exploring in the park, they loved playing in the front yard of the cabin. My only complaint is that there is a charge per person for more than 2 guests (in fairness, it did state that upfront). I am not sure why there is an additional charge if the cabin states that it accommodates up to 6 guests. Overall, our experience was fantastic!

Cozy Quiet Retreat

  • 4 of 5

Owl Moon Cabin is a great winter retreat. It's cozy, remarkably quiet and warm. Night skies were beautiful. Things are clean and in good condition since the cabin is so new. We found what we needed in the kitchen. The beds were good. Lucy was helpful in making the arrangments.

Our arrival was less smooth. Some problems were out of the owner's control - the propane truck that blocked the road after it lost a chain. That delayed our arrival. And the hill before the cabin can be treacherous in winter, so it might be necessary to park a short walk away. We quickly adjusted to that. Most anxiety producing was finding that the key was not in the lock box, but on the kitchen table in the locked cabin. We immediately called several numbers that were provided for help. It took about 90 minutes to get a call back. That was troubling after a difficult trip on a cold winter night. Fortunately we found a way in, or it could have been worse. Hopefully this is a problem the owners will address.

Owner's Response: Fortunately, our guests were able to get into the cabin after being locked out, but how frustrating! We have honestly not had this problem before. Apparently, the key lock-box was "sticking", so our house keeper thought it best to just leave the key on the table with the door unlocked, for these arriving guests, but then she forget to actually leave the front door unlocked when she left. There are 4 backup persons to call if there are problems, by coincidence 3 of them were traveling that day, and then the housekeeper happened to be out of cell range, in the park, when they called. We hope this never happens again, but will add another back-up contact, just in case...

Owl Moon Cabin

  • 5 of 5

My husband and his two sisters stayed here for an October visit. The cabin was perfect for us. It was an easy drive to the Yosemite Valley, the kitchen was perfect for preparing meals, the front deck was great for watching the lightning, and the fireplace provided warmth while we watched college football during the thunderstorm. Thank you for a great time!

Expectations were high

  • 3 of 5

We stayed here as part of our vacation to see the first of three national parks. The home was very convienient to explore all that Yosemite has to offer. The downside is that upon our return to the home our internet and television did not work during our stay. Calls to the owner, calls to the service provider, resulted in no resolution during our stay. We realize that a remote location may have some difficulty in maintaining access, but no resolution for our stay was a disappointment. A closer management arrangement might have made a stay a 5 star.

Owner's Response: It was unfortunate that both the internet and satellite TV service went out of service during this guests visit. That is not a common event. Getting prompt service from a service technician for non-urgent issues can be difficult, at times, as we have no control over their scheduled appointments to the area. That is the down side to being in a remote location. Fortunately, this does not occur frequently and we apologize to guests who have been inconvenienced.
