Overview

About the property

2 bedroom, 2 bath house, 15 feet from Sawkill Creek with gorgeous views.

The Water House is the ultimate getaway for nature lovers. Our totally secluded two bedroom house sits on 1,200 private, wooded acres next to 25,000 acres of State Lands and yet is less than 5 minutes to the charming town of Milford.

The enchantment starts when you drive ½ mile down the long driveway and walk over an old-fashioned wooden foot bridge to the Frank Lloyd Wright-style house, nestled right on the Sawkill stream, with the pine forest behind.

You will have total privacy in this incredibly comfortable, all-season vacation home. The house is very spacious, with a huge living/dining area, cathedral ceiling w/wooden beams, hardwood floors, and knotty pine walls. The kitchen is fully equipped. There are 2 bedrooms: the master bedroom has a king-size bed w/ private bathroom and private entrance, and the other bedroom has a full-size bed w/ a twin, and a private bath. There is also a comfortable, built-in daybed in the living room. A crib is available as well.

The large, furnished screen porch is the place to be in the summer, where the view is breathtaking. A beaver meadow sits in the middle of the wide stream, with the water flowing swiftly past the house. There is a grill and a firepit on a little peninsula by the stream, where you can sit by the fire at night. Hiking is plentiful on the property, and you can kayak and canoe right from the banks of the stream.

In the fall and winter, you will want to move inside to the cozy, romantic stone fireplace. In every season, the huge picture windows overlooking the stream will keep you connected to nature and the abundant wildlife that lives on the stream. This is a great place to introduce your kids to camping and to stream and forest ecology.

Writers and artists looking for total privacy and the tranquility of nature and flowing water will find it here.

This charming property is only 4 miles from Milford, PA. which Atlantic Magazine once called 'The prettiest county seat in America'.

3/4 of the quaint town of Milford is a National Historic District featuring Galleries, Antiques, Coffee Shops, Restaurants, Boutiques and Specialty Shopping.

Milford is adjacent to the 70,000 acre Delaware Water Gap National Park and the federally-protected Upper Delaware Wildlife and Scenic River offering a wide array of river activities.

an absolutely beautiful getaway!!!

  • 5 of 5

This place has been so peaceful and relaxing, I can't even begin to tell you... I'm so glad I stumbled across your beautiful house in Milford while doing a generic search for a place to take my lovely wife! Thank you so much for everything, you've been very kind. The one thing I've never done with my wife is to elope, so I got in touch with a pastor from a different church than we go to and planned this for more than a month. So we're technically newlyweds again. I guess the family will figure that something's up when we get back home with our "just married" items all over our car :) So, this was like a mini honeymoon for the both of us. I guarantee we will be coming back next year!!! The people in town were so friendly, it was almost like we were visiting Mayberry. Just wow!

Peace and tranquility

  • 5 of 5

Absolutely wonderful stay at the Water House. I am recovering from surgery and talked to Nancy to get the last minute details. When Nancy heard about what was going on in my life, she did everything possible to ensure that my husband, daughter and future son-in-law had a pleasant stay.

The setting is serene, we enjoyed a fire in the pit every night , even though it was very warm during the day and slightly cooler at night. There are box fans there but we did bring a couple extra to keep it cool at night, which worked great. The kitchen was well equipped for us because we cooked every meal at the house. The grocery store is 5 minutes away if you forget anything.

I would recommend the tubbing on the river. We went and enjoyed a lazy three hour float complete with beverages and sandwiches we had brought with us. Milford is a cute little town and we found plenty of places to shop and grab a quick lunch.

I don't get to see my daughter, often as I live in Ohio and she is in NJ. This was the perfect place to spend time with her, play cards and talk about future plans. WE will come back again.

Exceptional experience

  • 5 of 5

I've taken far too long to write this review. Bob and I stayed at The Water House back in October of 2014 (the calendar to submit your date of arrival doesn't let you go back that far!). It would be the first time we explored The Poconos. We immediately fell in love with the town of Milford. There are a variety of restaurants and quaint shops, and of course, Fretta's! Arriving at The Water House, we felt like we were in the middle of the forest, far from civilization...yet Milford is a short drive away. Heavily wooded, incredibly scenic, surrounded by the sounds of the creek and wildlife, our weekend spent here was one we will remember forever. I LOVED the great room with it's fireplace and wall of windows out onto the creek. We spent each night enjoying a fire outside beside the water. One evening we were joined by a large owl in a nearby tree. We came in each night to enjoy a fire inside as well. One of the many highlights of the weekend was watching an eagle fly right past us following the creek. The kitchen was well stocked with anything we might need to prepare an amazing meal from everything we purchased at Fretta's and we enjoyed it at the large table beside the wall of windows. We truly enjoyed our stay and would recommend The Water House to anyone seeking a nature lover's paradise.

What a privilege to stay at such a beautiful place!

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at the Water House was an amazing experience. If you love nature and are looking for a true getaway, this is the place!

The house is spacious and comfortable, with high ceilings, beautiful wood floors and details, and windows everywhere looking out onto the gorgeous surrounding property. What makes this place so special is that the house is surrounded on all sides by lush woodland and a meandering stream. The peaceful sounds of the forest and stream surround you at all times. We spent most of our time outside, sitting by the water or in front of the fire, kayaking along the gentle stream, hiking on nearby trails or just around the house. We enjoyed listening to the music of the frogs and birds, as well as the rushing water of the stream. At night, we’d watch the fire, the stars, and the many fireflies (in late June).

The house was clean and had everything you could want or need. Even on hot, sunny days it stayed very comfortable and cool inside. The lighting was gentle, and in general the house does a remarkable job of blending in to its surrounding environment. There is no internet access or TV at the Water House, which my wife and I thought was delightful!

Our stay was (alas!) only a short one, so we cooked most of our meals at the house. But the one night we went out in nearby Milford, we had an excellent meal at the charming Bar Louis at Hotel Fauchere. Milford is a nice little town with interesting shops, great architecture, and some really good restaurants. There are tons of interesting things to do in the area, but for us, just sitting and experiencing the transcendent bliss of the Water House was enough! We can’t wait to go back...

Beautiful Forest Retreat

  • 5 of 5

My boyfriend and I spent the loveliest weekend here, and cannot wait to return to the most remote and beautiful property we have stayed at in the US. The surrounding forest is full of old growth trees, and there is a lovely stream whose sound is heard from the bedroom window. Once we got to the house, we didn't even leave the property until we had to - only to find another bonus! The town of Milford is also lovely, as are The Grey Towers and historic cemetery. Best Halloween ever!

Beautiful and Serene!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I celebrated our 24th anniversary at the Waterhouse in 2013 came back again in 2015 to celebrate our 26th (25th was spent in St. Lucia). I just love the beautiful and tranquil setting at the Waterhouse on Sawkill Creek. It is one of the most peaceful places I have ever stayed. Both my husband and I are very outdoors, nature loving individuals and just can not get enough of this property and all it has to offer. My husband did some fishing in the Sawkill, but had much more luck up the street at Lily Pond. The town of Milford is very quaint and easy to explore. We took the tour of the Grey Tower property and it was so very interesting and such a beautiful property. We definitely plan to come back next year as well.
