The villa was completely reconstructed in 2011. A new ocean view bedroom and a big covered terrace have been added (still not on the satellite picture of Google maps).
The house is on a rock, 20m above the ocean and has stairs which create a direct access to the famous white sand beach of Flamingo (the real Flamingo beach, also called playa Blanca).
The entire property is very private and protected against prying eyes. Also it is very safe. All buildings are protected by alarm systems and there are cameras mounted all around the property. We never had any problems!
From the terrace one will enjoy wonderful sunsets and if you are a little lucky you can observe wales crossing the bay. One can also enjoy the view from the inside living area. The big European isolated windows keep 99,9% of UV rays outside.
The house also contains a swimming pool, which runs on very little chlorine. Because of the so called “infinity edge” the pool seems as if it is a part of the ocean, making an almost seamless blend between the swimming pool and the water of the ocean, especially when the winds are calm. The pool also has a raised Jacuzzi attached to it, with a waterfall cascading down into the pool, generating a source of calming sound against the thunder of the ocean waves.
The property also contains two double story units, one used as a guestroom. On the wall right next to it, one can sometimes spot the occasional iguana lying in the sun (usually only in the early morning). On the other one a roof access has been built. From there one can enjoy all the beauty that Flamingo has to offer.
The outside terrace also has a big 50+ inch TV, so in the evening (which comes quite early in Costa Rica), one can enjoy such entertainment without being confined to the inside of the house. On the terrace there are also deck chairs for easy sunbathing whenever one feels the need to.
In general, the house is very open. The celling in the living room is around 8 meters high. Almost every room has big windows which can also be used as doors. In this way, one can generate enough airflow to not have to use the AC. This helps with the acclimatization process and will make ones experience of Costa Rica much more enjoyable.
New we did add another bedroom with 2 sleeps in the mainhouse.
This gives advantages to younger children because they can sleep close to their parents.

Why Owner chose Playa Flamingo
We live in a some extra ordinary properties in Europe and we always where looking for our exaptional place at the pacific. As it is a long flight time from Europe to Costa Rica only a top of the line property does make sense to us. And we did find it with this villa at Flamingo Beach.
What makes this Villa unique
Located directly at the white Flamingo Beach. Private stair down to the beach. Increadable sunsets to be watched from the terrace. When you are lucky you can watch the wales from the terrace in the bay.

Stunning property overlooking the Pacific
Great family house on beautiful Flamingo Beach. The infinity pool was fantastic and we enjoyed "hiking" down the stairs to enjoy the garden and the tide pools. The ocean was alive with fish jumping and lots of pelicans. The house is well equipped for cooking and enjoying inside and outside dining. Wow!
Location and View!
The Villa is really something, and I think all 8 of us would agree to return! Like anything, there are pros and cons, but all in all, Playa Flamingo Sunset Villa is really special.
Pros: Location. Playa Flamingo is a great little beach town in Costa Rica close to a lot of great restaurants (Coco Loco, Surf Box, Marie's) and beaches. The Master Bedroom has an amazing view of the water. The ‘main house’ (with kitchen, living area, library, bathroom, two bedrooms (both with bathrooms) was so comfortable and also has an amazing view overlooking the pool and ocean. The infinity pool itself was also such a hit. The fourth and fifth bedrooms are each in a separate ‘building’, with one being over the garage (also with bathroom) and the other in a separate standalone apartment (with bathroom and kitchenette). So, each couple had a lot of privacy, but the layout could also be a ‘con’, I suppose, if you have a lot of young kids in your group. The outside pool area is well equipped with at least 8 comfy lounge chairs and outdoor chairs and couch by an outdoor TV. The weather was awesome, as long as you like it HOT, which most of us in the group did. Thankfully, the pool is only a few steps away at the Villa and such a welcome relief.
Cons: And, these are first world ‘cons’ obviously, because it’s really hard to complain when you are on such a great property, in such a great location, so take these ‘cons’ with a grain of salt. It’s not easy to find the Villa. We were on the phone with Carlos (who is great and very helpful and always a phone call away) a few times not knowing just which street would get us there. No big deal, but there should be a way to better track the address (the address to the Villa will rarely get you to the Villa, even according to the owner). Also, because there are so many different rooms in the Villa, some of the less used rooms (library, bedroom over the garage) were a bit dusty. Also, there are 187 steps (but who’s counting??) to the beach from the Villa, so if you have any mobility problems, and know you want to use the beach, take this into consideration before booking. It didn’t discourage us from using the beach at all, and was a fun way to get some exercise. Also, you won’t find turquoise water and white sand in this area. The sand is a bit darker (black sand on some beaches, like in Las Catalinas, which is really cool) and so the water doesn’t take on that turquoise color.
We did already add a detail way discription, how to find our villa. And we send it to every guest by e-mail. Even with pictures. The simple problem is, that the driver need to turn trough a arch. I did add already a picture.....people who come by rent car in general have no problem (local drivers often do not follow this discription....). Regarding the dust - I talked to our maid.
Yes, there are some steps down to the beach. But because of this, you enjoy anincredable view and wonderful sunsets from the teracce. And it gives security.
Flamingo Beach is a white sand beach. Yes, there are also dark sand beaches in the area but our Flamingo beach is a white sand beach with a little touch of pink - which gave it the name of Flamingo beach. On official maps the name is playa blanca. Water color depends on sun, coulds and so on.........there is no black sand like in Catalinas on Flamingo beach.
The most beautiful sunsets!
We had a fantastic time at Sunset Beach Villa at Flamingo Beach. In January the sunsets were right over the pool, in perfect sight! The infinity pool was really nice, the jacuzzi tub is a cool jacuzzi, not a hot tub, but the weather is 89 degrees plus and HOT. The property was very nice and gated with security alarms and locked doors. It's in a nice area with a cute little town that has three great restaurants (Coco Loco, Marie's and Angelina's), the food is fresh and very good in Costa Rica! The small grocery store in the nearby town has everything you need, produce, liquor, water, meat, etc...The beach is 70+ steps down private steps (coming back up is a workout but worth it). The roads are all paved and easy to drive on. We wire transferred the payments to Deitmar the owner and it was perfectly legit. Carlos met us at the house and showed us around. Daily or every other day maid service. Safe in closet in master. Wi-fi throughout. There are bugs in Costa Rica (lots of bug bites) and also amazing wild life. Saw sting rays every day, parrots, fish, lizards, birds, etc....We did venture out to a waterfall but it is a drive to all the rain forests, etc...depends what you are looking for!
What a View!
Sunset Villa is the perfect name- the view from this home is stunning and you get an incredible view of the sunset every night so plan to be in the home 5-6 pm as often as possible. The separate master has a view of the ocean from bed and its own small porch. The photos need to be updated, there is not as much grass as is shown any more but we liked having the additional tiled lounge area and the clear view of the ocean. Be warned that the spa tub is not heated- we were there in winter and did not use the tub and spa at night as we'd hoped to.
The home has multiple areas to dine and lounge. The rooms are separated which is great for adults but may or may not work depending on ages of kids. One twin and one king in the main house. One separate master with ocean view. One king with its own kitchen in a casita and one king over the garage which was the least favorable. The other garage has a unit being built with a killer rooftop view of Flamingo Beach- will be nice once seating is provided.
Few homes offer both views and beach access like this. It's a long walk back up but is worth it to have access to both.
The owner provided helpful details prior to our trip and the local housekeeping and maintenance contacts were kind & efficient.
Some of the bathrooms and A/C units perhaps could be updated at some point but they worked just fine and with gorgeous exterior views we spent most of our time in the shared outdoor area which was just perfect.
Love the area. It's a short drive from Liberia (rent an SUV, not a car). Great restaurants nearby- walk down the beach from the house to Coco Loco. Bring a light beach blanket and coolers if you can. There's a a filtered ice maker but for a large group you might want to buy extra ice. WIFI is great to have but it goes in and out- ask how to restart the router/s in case of issues.
We rented a catamaran through Panache and loved them- did snorkeling, saw whales & dolphin, caught tuna, saw a rainbow and an incredible sunset. We also used Sweet D for a jungle river tour to see crocodiles, monkeys, and birds- he was very good as well.
I'd recommend this property for a large family with school aged or older kids or a group of adult friends. It's great if you want to lounge or if you are into adventure. Hope to be back one day- wish I were there right now!
Beautiful Home - Can't wait to come back!
This house was incredible - all amenities, clean and cool, gorgeous views...I could go on and on. The view of the ocean is unlike any other - waking up every morning to the wide expanse of blue sea, hearing the waves crash while sleeping (even with the doors closed), and having a beautiful sunset every single night...this place is really special. The town of Flamingo is a sleepy fishing village with everything you need (banks, rental car, tours) and there are 3 fantastic restaurants (Coco Loco is a must, Marie's and Angelina's). For families: the layout of the house is such that the master is separate from the main house, but only a short walk across the pool patio. Our 5 year old shared a room with her brother and we felt very safe and had no problems. The master is a must - and get a massage with the doors open! We can't wait to go back.
Great beach, great views, great outdoor area, comfortable house
Our family (wife, me, 6 and 2yr old) stayed for a week. The first thing you notice is the great view when you enter the house, your blood pressure should drop! Everything in the main living area and master bedroom is nice and well equipped. The real gem of the house is the access to the beach and the beach itself, yes, it’s a decent amount of steps but you gain privacy. In addition, the winds are lighter than other houses we have rented on the beach; you get better/longer views and additional safety. In addition, the outdoor dining, pool, jacuzzi and seating area was perfect for us. This is what you pay for and you won't be disappointed.
Per the PF area, you have at least 3 restaurants that you can walk too and many more within a 5-minute drive. Same goes for grocery stores and fresh produce market, everything is handy.
The house service was great; Ariel always had a smile and took care of us when we had questions. Yes, you could always improve things but none of it would enhance the “why” you came to Costa Rica.
Rent this house, you will not be disappointed.
Close by is the restaurant Coco-Loku, where you can enjoy a nice evening at the beach. Here you can order also a superb catering service.
